Jesus Christ Eddie inspired Bob Marley, I knew he had a very far reach but that is some next level inspiration. lol. It's cool he inspired you to pick up the guitar, he inspired me to not be afraid of doing tricks on one and that the guitar doesn't make the musician its what they do with it. He donated a lot of guitars to intercity kids who could get access to them because of a lack of money. He was a really nice and kind human being and he will be missed for many reasons. RIP EVH.

The pickup Eddie used in his original Frankenstrat was a 1962 Gibson PAF that came out of his 1962 ES-335. Eddie rewound the pick up himself and admitted that he didn't know what he was doing. As such, the pickup is way hotter than is normal for a PAF humbucker. So much so, that it really shouldn't work at all. RIP Eddie. You were a genius.

goes to show that is not about the guitar or pickup brands, it's Eddie's finger and his sensitive ears that make it sounds like Eddie van Halen, give him $100 guitar from Amazon and it would sounds like a million dollar.

I wouldn't put much (any) stock in his claim his pick was the cause of his cancer. He was notorious for his smoking and drinking habits (he started both when he was 12 and chain smoked and drank to excess for decades afterward), which both are much more likely culprits than him holding his pick in his mouth. And that's not to mention other factors that go along with his lifestyle (see Michael Douglas' explanation for his throat cancer). All that said, it's a terrible loss for the world to lose such a talented virtuoso. He influenced pretty much all my favorite guitarheros and changed the rock and metal world forever. RIP EVH

@Mustang Pilot maybe, maybe not I don’t know one way or the other there. But it is a fact that HPV can cause various cancers so it’s at least much more plausible than getting cancer from a metal pick.

My local Sam Ash had one of the original replicas that only like 20 were made. It was on a glass case and the guitar rotated slowly with a spot light over it. It had a price tag of $23k. My wife saw me starring at it with awe, like I was looking at a religious artifact. She scoffed and said “who would pay that much for a piece of junk like that?” I felt like she blasphemed! I looked her in the eye and simply said “me”. I then begged the salesman to let me play it. He would not let it out of his sight, but he gave me 10 minutes with it. It was a religious experience

Yes, I was very surprised that 'Trogly' did not know that Eddie was actually playing an Ibanez. Kind of ruined this video when he does not know even the basics of the subject. Also, why in the world they made a replica of the Ibanez and included the modifications that ruined it, making it a decoration item instead of an useful instrument. The shark stuff was not there when Eddie played it on all non-whammy songs of the first Van Halen record.

My favorite Van Halen songs are Tattoo, Panama and Jump My favorite memory of listening to Van Halen music actually has nothing to do with Eddie Van Halen himself but something from one of Van Halen’s songs The memory is when I would go over to my friend Bailey’s house to hang out or see if he wanted to go skateboard when I was growing up and his dad Mike who everyone called Uncle Mike he played guitar and I play a little guitar and occasionally I would ask him if I could play his guitar and I would be playing his guitar and he would want to show me something and he would always say that he wasn’t a good guitar player anymore because of how long it had been since he played but could sit down and pick up his guitar and play Van Halen Eruption or Cowboys From Hell by Pantera perfectly like it was nothing and I would watch him play these songs mind blown that he thought he couldn’t play guitar well anymore RIP Eddie Van Halen

Hey Trogglers, Peace and Love. I was in NYC on the Manhattan music store street around 1983. There was a very small guitar tech booth set near the entrance to a music store, which had three Frankenstrats. 2 of them were EVH's. The tech was working on one, and I was studying the two on the wall behind him. Of course he knew I was studying them and asked me if I wanted to try it. I told him, No, I'd be afraid of screwing something up. He laughed and said there's nothing you could possibly screw up on this. We were both laughing. Rest in Peace Eddie. How the hell I always have the opp to get my hands on everyone's guitar is beyond me, lol ;)

I had several questions about guitar electronics and mods which I needed to and did ask that tech, unrelated to Frankenstrat. I told him up front I couldn't afford an hour of his time but offered him something, maybe even a beer. He answered my questions while working on one of the Frankenstrats. Life is strange and so am I.

Thank you for such a wonderful and heartfelt tribute to our King Edward. The Missus woke me up crying and for the entire day we couldn’t listen to a note of King Edward without the waterworks comin’ - so many good times with his music -it felt weird We found watching interviews with him and other kind folks like yourself paying tribute to Eddie makes it somewhat easier to bear. We literally had a day of intensely mourning. It might sound daft but Ed’s playing and attitude is hugely responsible for inspiring me to be the person I am. There’s a Bad Religion ( Punk Band ) Lyric that says it al “ Everyone you love leaves a mark on your soul, The world is a little less bright without King Edward Im fighting cancer and depression and its been especially tough with the news of Eddie’s passing but hearing all these wonderful tributes and reaction and the love and joy he brought and is bringing….makes it a tad bit easier Much love and respect! Thank you for honouring our King Edward. Eddie's music touched us so deeply because of his love for the instrument and the innovations he has done. To us, it feels like the brightest and best brother, Uncle, friend mentor you ever had is not in our realm anymore. You have Nothing but love from the rock/metal / guitarist community, respect for your tribute to EVH, Rock n Metal does not get the exposure and respect that other genres get. So, you are forever in the hearts of many a Rock / Metal / Guitar fan's hearts. Stay safe & all the best wishes to you. Watch this Video Interview and you'll see why we're hurting so much...The world is a little less bright without King Edward This is a brilliant interview if you haven’t seen it kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5OVZ3dul6eNeJo&ab_channel=Z%C3%B3caloPublicSquare Enjoy EVH kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmrVXoGuqr6msMk&ab_channel=Hazardteam

I grew up listening to everything. I liked Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Howe and so on. 10 years old in 1978, when a new station came on the air, they started that morning playing Eruption. I told my mom "I want to learn how to do that" and started guitar lessons. Biggest guitar influence I have ever known.

Favorite memory? Easy, 8/11/1979 Convention Hall, Asbury Park NJ. Van Halen on their headlining tour just after VHII was released. Ticket $8.50, tour book $4, two sided concert t-shirt $10; memories, priceless. (and I still have the ticket stub and the tour book) RIP. Eddie, you were a legend whose work will live on in perpetuity.

12 years old , neighbor friend said you gotta hear this song, went to his house, and of course (being 12 years old) went into his parents liquor cabinet first, got out the creme de minthe , poured a glass and heard "And the Cradle Will Rock"... at 12 . " Have you seen juniors Grades" .... i was hooked.

From the 1st album, "I'm the One" is another one that totally smokes my head! His rhythm playing at the start (and throughout) is just perfection. And the closing controlled feedback is like the icing on the cake. Listened to so many of his DLR era tracks in the past couple of days. Too many to list. Just mentioned the one (pun intended) because you brought up several tracks off the 1st album.

His guitars rock even if no one but him plays them. He single handedly terraformed the landscape of rock guitar, changing it forever. His influence extends across all genres. I've been a fan since I was 9yrs old. Tragic loss for the music world, but his music and influence will live on. RIP EVH. God bless and rock on 🎸🎸🎸

Nice respectful episode Austin. I think no matter what your preferred genre of music is , if you ever picked up a guitar , you know Eddie was a special and original musician . Personally , I liked VH1 & 2 albums the most . Today I listened to Women And Children First , which I hadn't played for ages ,and the lead track , And The Cradle Will Rock , is a brilliant song to kick it off. 65 is no age , so sad. I always thought he would be jamming and horsing around with the younger generation guitarists into his 80's like Les Paul did. R I P Eddie 🌹
