Guy Speranza is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. A day never goes by when a Riot tune comes on from my playlist and I remember seeing them in concert in 1980. RIP Guy Speranza.

Ricky, Fire Down Under was one of the best hard rock albums EVER!!! It’s a damn shame it didn’t get enough promotion. Guy’s voice was unmistakable and killer range. That first lineup of Riot should have hit the big time. A real head scratcher that it didn’t. I listen to Alter of the King and Run For Your Life at least once a week, and that’s no shit!! Great post on Guy.

RIOT was the Oh Yea i remember those guys band. Loved the mexican sounding metal. My brother turned me on to these guys back in the early 80’s. They had a tight vibe. Outlaws got no deal is a phenomenal song.. “ Bet Your Life On The Silver Ball, Spin it round the wheel, Will it land on the black or the red, the outlaws got no deal” wore that album out, & as far as fight songs or battle cry’s Swords & Tequila will carry you through the night….good pull today Rick, one of my all time favs as well RIP Guy…

My buddy when we were high schoolers he turned me into Castle Downingtown. RIOT was ahead of most on that album. Loved Guy, Mark and the rest of Riot at that point. They opened the night I saw them on the Restless Breed tour. They opened for a Yngwie led Alcatrazz with Ratt headlining. The order was all wrong, RIOT should have headlined, they fkn blew the doors off that joint that night. Ratt should have opened and Yngwies Alcatrazz, and RIOT was the king of the show that night. They opened, shredded, put on a high energy show and Rhett Butler won the crowd over within couple minutes. Damn they were rock and roll Gold all the way!!!!

Thank you for this. I loved Riot. I'm with you, the first three albums were unbelievable. They were much loved in Fresno back in the mid-late seventies. I've heard that Riot was one of those bands that were huge in many cities but the 'major' markets seem to overlook them. All of Riots music was good but those early albums were on another level: powerful, full sound and just plain high energy.. Thanks for your tribute and we appreciate your hard work Brother. God Bless.

Thank you for remembering Guy Speranza... This was a wonderful tribute to him! As a teen in the 80's, I remember staring at the Fire Down Under cover for years before finally being curious enough to buy the album. I wasn't disappointed, and in short order I purchased the other two albums headed by Guy on lead vocals. Great band! -Kent

I was at that last show at the Meadowlands Arena and remember that when they came out the lights were still on in the arena and they did not turn them off for about 2 or 3 songs cause people were still filing in. The band sounded great that night but I can remember Guy being pissed that the lights were still on and I thought I heard him say " They Fucking only want to hear RUSH" over the mike. It was a great night with both bands putting on a great show but you could tell that Guy was not really happy even though he sang his ass off that night. Was bummed out to hear a few months later that Riot got a new singer. Most bands will tell you that opening for RUSH sucks cause RUSH fans (usually mostly guys) are die hard fans and only want to hear RUSH and a lot of them would hang in the parking lot till RUSH would come on. Anyway was big fan of both bands and always will be.
@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock
@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock 8 ай бұрын
That sucks about the lights. An opening band only has about 30 minutes, so leaving the lights on for the first 3 songs takes the wind out of the sails, so to speak. You saw Guy's last performance though with or without lights and that's something 🤘

Yeah, you well know who this guy is second to in my eyes😂 Three members of Riot met foul ends yet one could’ve been prevented if a certain someone hadn’t needlessly fought to protect a vehicle - Guy himself, shares a common cause of death with someone who’s birthday is in just under a week… answer if you know who I mean😂 and Mark died of complications to do with a genetic condition.
