When I was at Georgia State and working the graveyard shift at an Atlanta funeral home we went to pick up the body of a man who had grown up in Forsyth County. I asked his caregiver if he had ever talked about Junior Samples and she said yes and related a story he had told her about Junior borrowing some farm implement snd never returning it. So this man went to Junior’s house and asked him about it. Junior looked at the field that was full of high grass (or crop) and said that as soon as the (ground cover) died down he would get it snd take it to him. And he was as good as his word.

I met Junior briefly as a teenager in the 70's while training as waitress in a restaurant attached to a hotel in Cookeville, Tennessee. It wasn't much to speak of because I was extremely shy and didn't talk to strangers, especially men. I recognized Junior, but being the step daughter of a local who knew everyone in town (Cookeville was rather small in those days, my stepfather was raised there and was dispatcher for the local sheriff's department). I thought nothing of the smiling down home man eating alone in the restaurant. I just thought he was one of my stepfather's friends. It was years if not decades before I was able to recognize who I had exchanged smiles and hellos with. My first celebrity encounter and I was clueless!😣

Hi, Thank you for the video. As you can tell from my handle BR549 means a lot to me. I rarely missed Hee-Haw growing up, I loved that show and everyone on it. I watched it with my grandmother and uncle and it always reminds me of them, (R.I.P.). My uncle would tell me about going to school with Roy Clark; they're from the same small town in VA. Junior always reminded me of people my family knew. Just regular folks that happened to be funny, if you were paying attention. In the early 1970s, I had tickets for a taping of "This Is Your Life" hosted by Ralph Edwards at CBS Television City in Hollywood. Since Ralph would surprise the honoree for each episode just prior the taping, we had no idea who the celebrity guest would be until we arrived at the studio. The celebrity to be honored that night was Junior Samples and, needless to say, most of the "Hee Haw" cast was there to honor him. It was fun to see them all in person.

Yes John, Hee Haw had a wide range of music, not just country. You had the true country of the time like George Jones but also the then new country like Hank Williams Jr. The twins always tried to put a country spin on a modern day tune while Roy Clark would sometimes shred his guitar with some classical or Latin music. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

It was his grandmother’s plot. We found a marker and got all excited. He grabbed a mower and trimmer and we went to work. We found it! A trustee chewed out my dad for clearing out the junk. I remember my dad chewing out the pastor and trustees for not taking care of the cemetery. It was an emotional time. We visited that site several more times over the years. This cemetery is in southern Ohio. I’m going back soon to check it out. Thanks. Blessings! 🤩

On January 30th of this year, 2020, I made a road trip down to the town I grew up in to see the best friend I have ever had in this world, other than Jesus. His name was Doug. I met him on the first day of Kindergarten back in 1967. From then on we were practically inseparable. Like Laurel and Hardy, we were best friends to the end. He died on January 30th, 1995. When I was 5 years old I had my picture taken sitting in his lap. He was in Tupelo at one of the dealerships promoting something a car i guess but i was there with my parents and the Daily Journal reporter that was there took a picture with me in his lap. Now my parents and me didn't ask for this to be done they were just doing that promotion and wanted a kid in it with him and kinda just snatched me up because I was the only kid there. He didnt like it either. I was only 5 but I remember him grumbling about having to take his pic and do the promotion with a snotty nose kid! You can see in the picture how displeased he is because he wasn't happy about it at all. Enjoyed what you said about your friend. Never heard the 2 deaths, but it is very true. I'm sure she felt your presence the day you recorded this video.

Thank you for the video, my father, Paul Gibson, managed Jr. for years and he visited our home and even fished with him when I was a young kid. The rumor about his driveway was sort of true, he had a big Hee Haw logo with the donkey painted on his carport and he had properly 1000s of dimes glued all around it.

Doug. Thank you so much for sharing that. I love to hear stories from folks who actually knew him or was related to him. I wish there was a picture of his carport. Thanks again.

Neither choice buried or burned neither one appeal at all! You have a kind gentle soul, thank you for the information on Junior Hee Haw was one of my born in Kentucky hillbilly and proud mom's favorite shows that I often watched with her, I remember Junior he was funny the whole show was and man that guy named Roy could sure pick a guitar, I always thought he should have joined up with Charley Daniels and jam, wouldn't that be something? which inspired me to play, so in the spirit of Junior I have to say, you know I bet they could have saved money on his stone by just getting the sample!, was that his real name? It just don't seem right that we have to die.
