Remembering Our Friend Dave Schwartz

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness to let you know that Dave Schwartz has passed away. Dave spent 22 years at The Weather Channel. He was a fan and staff favorite because he so obviously loved what he did and had a unique ability to draw viewers into the fascinating world of weather. His passion for weather was contagious and inspired many to enter the field of meteorology. His love of weather will never be forgotten, he will be greatly missed.

I practically grew up with Dave ever since the Weather Channel came to my home on cable. In the early 90's, I remember seeing him and said, he is going to be one to remember, and until this day, he set himself apart from the other meteorologists and being one of the most likable guys on the air. From his caring personality to his comedian side, Dave was there for all us, during sunny days to severe weather. Always letting us all know what was coming and urging us to be sensible about the dangers of weather. He felt it was important to not just tell us about the weather, but to educate us as well. Thank you Dave for the many years and for several good laughs along the way as well. You will be surely missed deeply in our hearts. May you rest in peace sir, up there, above the clouds!

I indirectly worked with him...I worked in the digital department and me and my coworker were sitting at our desk and he simply sat with us and introduced himself “Hi, I’m Dave”. He shook our hands and he just wanted to know what we did and I remember him just being so kind and humble...he was a very sweet man.

I grew up with the "Live By It" era of the Weather Channel, and Dave always seemed to me like an actor who was performing as a meteorologist. He just had that style that was so intriguing to viewers like me. I'm gonna miss him. I hope his life was filled with joy and excitement. RIP Dave 😢

I've been watching the weather channel since 1992, when I was 14 years old. I've always been an avid Dave Schwartz Fan, he's the reason I love weather. I've been so devastated since learning about his passing. He Was so positive regarding his illness, he survived cancer twice, then it came back 10 years later and took him away. I'm really saddened, God bless the soul, and bless his family.

I work on call and travel in my job and get called to work at all hours of the day and night. The TV in the hotel is always set on the WC channel so when I get up thats what comes on. Dave Schwartz at 4 in the morning would always give me a chuckle and smile. What a great job Dave.Even though we never met he affected my life by giving me a little boost when I have to get up in the middle of the night to go to work. I always watched Dave as a kid. I was about 7 or 8 years old at the time. Man he knew how to give a forecast. His coolness, his class, his charm, his PERSONALITY was just amazing. Now I'm 19 and I'm wanting to become a meteorologist. Dave is a big part of my inspiration to become one. I saw him a couple of weeks ago on TWC but he seemed dreary-eyed and tired. Always loved Dave . I remember watching him in the early nineties. We always thought he was hilarious and loved it when he did the tropical update (being surfers on the east coast we would watch tropical update religiously). man such sad news, I'll always remember you fondly Dave and you always made us laugh and you made not only the weather channel better but brought humor to the sometimes boring world of air pressure predictions! I just found out what happened to Dave Schwartz. I always loved watching him on the Weather Channel he was funny and lighthearted. I had no idea he died of cancer, since we were rallying around my sister-in-law who had breast cancer, and passed in March of 2016 sadly. RIP Dave and my dear Kris.

I remember the first time I saw Dave on TWC I thought that this guy looks like some dashing, well manicured car salesmen. After I watched him for about 10 minutes I realized how genuine he was and always enjoyed his upbeat demeanor thereafter. Despite the trials of what he went through he may have looked very drawn yet he kept his great smile and humor right till the end.
