Ruffian has been gone 40 years now, and there still hasn't been another Filly as Talented or as Fast or as Beautiful as the Greatest Filly in the World, Past, Present or Future. RIP BABY GIRL.

@@anna-oc1xs Ruffian... 10 race wins against only fillies and mares... Black Caviar won 25 races... only 2 were restricted races.... one win she set a weight carrying record in a G1 open handicap. Winx won 25G1's... only 1 was restricted. Ruffian might have been Pegasus but her record doesn't stack up.

People today talk about Zenyatta who was a superstar and elite. But Ruffian was on a whole other level. Not just 1 of the best fillies but one of the greatest horses ever. Arguably top 3 or 4

WOW! Thank you for putting this together. As a racing fan, I've always known that Ruffian was one of the best fillies ever, but watching her run in these videos was jaw-dropping, what with all the track and stakes records she smashed, and the easy, dominating fashion she did it. Such a beautiful filly, I just saw the video that shows her braking down, and its enough to make a person cry.I believe her sire was a son of Bold Ruler, so she was related to the great late Secratariet.Micheline Kribs. It was never difficult to find Ruffian. At every point of call in every race she ever ran Ruffian was in front, even up to the point her leg snapped in the match race with Foolish Pleasure. Ruffian - 8 stakes races, 8 stakes wins, 8 stakes records, and 39 years later, 7 of those records still stand. Ruffian - the greatest filly of all time.

Kinscem, Sceptre, Artful, Fashion, Shuvee. All, great racing horses whose accomplishments exceeded those of Ruffian. Black Caviar also deserves mention. Without further reference tot he greats of the past stretching back to the 19th Century, even Shuvee won TWO JC Gold Cups, against males. Also, take a look at Princess Rooney's run in the 1984 Breeder's Cup Distaff where she ran 1 FULL SECOND faster than Wild Again at the same distance, just 1/2 hour earlier than the Classic, probably the main reason they never ran the Distaff at that distance again. As for Ruffian herself? Possibly, an avoidable tragedy. That bone crack which ended here 2-yo season should have warned them, this gal runs real hard with no reserve, so watch her closely with the vet.

That match race was so horrific I never watched a horse race live again. Which means I watched no horse races for over thirty years, until reruns were broadcast on KZbin.

So beautiful, good music, but I know what comes next, and I don't know if I want to cry today. Does it seem like the colts have more press coverage?? I remember the match race. I watched it on t.v. But, even though I was 14,,, it just seems like alot of the general public was not as familiar with her as they were, say, Secretariat, even though she was as great. Did she get the magazine coverages as Sec did???

The benchmark in which other great fillies and mares are measured against. Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra, whoever. All are measured against the achievements and ability that this dynamic filly possessed.

@TheCptnSQUASH I watched a clip that was showing the two coming toward the camera, which showed birds flying in front of her. It appeared she spooked hard. There was talk that, perhaps, this lead to her injury. Any thoughts???
