Continuing our retrospective streak, we have another one I've been pumped to do. The Cowabunga Collection is soon upon us which boasts 12 TMNT classics. That means we have to grab each and every single TMNT game since 2003 and dig deep into how special some of these games truly are.

I loved tmnt 2003 and smash up when I was a kid. Gettint tmnt 03 for christmas is a core memory and I still own the game to this day. Even the day me and my friend beat the whole story in one day together. Best tmnt game

I was born in 2002. This and the 2007 movie are the Turtles that I grew up with in the late 2000s watching them on 4Kids TV. I'll always have a soft spot for that show, that movie, and these games. I was also a big fan of the 2012 series and the first Bay movie in my tween years lol.

Honestly I could go on for hours about how much of an impact TMNT had on my childhood. It was one of my biggest hyperfixations as a kid, and recently, it's come back in full force.

As someone who also grew up on the '03 Turtles, the 2012 Turtles hit pretty hard. You need to give it another try, it really does start off goofy, but it gets really serious and dark later on. The voice cast is great, story makes sense and is still fun to follow, and the combat in the series is so much more than the stillframes of characters getting hit and then being thrown toward the camera we got in the 2D animation that the '03 Turtles had. It's so good, and although I still prefer the '03 cast just off of nostalgia bias, the 2012 Turtles go hard as fuck. Don't sleep on them, you'd seriously miss out.

Matty I love the OG turtles, and the 03 turtles as well. Just recently I started watching some of the 2012 turtles with my daughter and was totally surprised by how good the story is. Takes a few seasons but it gets pretty crazy.

Always enjoy hearing love for TMNT 2003. Loved this show as a kid, love it still as an adult. TMNT 2: Battle Nexus was not only my first TMNT game I played, but also happened to be the first game I played on a PS2. So I have very deeply fond memories of it. And some frustrating ones, like the much more challenging sections. Oddly enough, because of how much I was used to Battle Nexus, when I played TMNT1 on the Gamecube for the first time around the same age, I actually had a much more difficult time really getting into it. Even years later, it feels very much like a pick-up/put-down game every so often. 3, however, I have never played, but do have. I plan to get to it after beating TMNT1 for the first time, then beating Battle Nexus all over again.

There is a lot of memories with Battle nexus. I was playing it with my friends in a past year and we beat it completely(and yeah, we those sick bastard's who complete all the racing levels with 3 turtles on the screen) . Like we got some double S status not only on racing levels but also on some regular ones with boss fights. And then TMNT Shredder's revenge was released, an I was fine with that game, it's solid beat em up after all, one of my friends was like "THIS GAME IS AWESOME" and another one was like "meh, let's go play battle nexus". We all grow up with 2003 series btw . And when I asked my friend why he chose the old TMNT 2 game he said that this game had more content on higher speed, he also said that after Shredder's revenge he was feeling bored and tired after few short sessions. It's sad that the second show doesn't getting as much attention as 87 version. I like the old show but the fact that companies care only about that piece of nostalgia when things comes to video games is annoying. story about battlenexus with many different emotions involved: my best friend and I growing up played the hell out of that, he was Raph and I was Mikey. sad part he was hit by a car and killed nearly 3 years ago. I went to amazon to order that game as a kind of memorial but dumbasses at amazon sent the strategy guide (I ordered it as a combo deal) and refunded my money for the game itself. despite trying it hasn't come back up yet, at least a PS2 version hasn't. and subject change: mutant melee is on PS2 but very rare and very expensive.

Out of the shadows is absolutely GOATED. I've said that since I played the game for the first time, and I still believe that now. I've been dying for Redfly studio to get a chance to make a sequel because with new, updated consoles and the feedback from the first game, there's a lot of potential for a fire game.

In defense of those series TMNT 2012 and Rise of the TMNT actually both do have really serious moments and depth in the characters, it’s just hard to see when looking at them from the outside, the Rise of the TMNT Movie especially does get pretty dark and genuinely intense

This video was great! I loved so many of these games and some I didn’t get to play. I remember when mutants of Manhattan was about to come out and I was so hyped until I saw all the reviews :( shredders revenge was a saving grace! I really hope for a 3D Tmnt game

I should point out that Karai was actually Michelangelo's, and NOT Leonardo's replacement fighter in TMNT 2: Battle Nexus. Leo's was Slashuur, who was an exclusive character for that game, and (like 2003 Shredder) was also an utrom for that matter as well.

2003 was really fun. I think Battle Nexus is the one where they perfected the formula, not only in terms of gameplay but the huge, long campaign that adapted almost all of Season 2. It felt big and epic. Mutant Nightmare was okay for adapting the basics of Season 3 though Battle Nexus is still the best. I would’ve loved to see games adapting the latter seasons. Episodes like the Ancient One, the Ninja Tribunal arc, Fast Forward as a setting is great for a video game. Characters like Karai as the Shredder, Tengu Shredder, decaying Stockman, and the Dark Turtles would’ve been great boss fights. Maybe for Fast Forward it would’ve been a more open world game to reflect how the Turtles get to live on the streets in 2105.

TMNT is one of my favorite games but I totally understand all of your critiques. It was one of my first video games so at the time I didn't have anything to compare it to I was just happy to be playing a video game. I still find it fun and it was my first introduction to ninja turtles which is now one of my biggest obsessions

Thank you for this video. I share your love when it comes to 2K3 TMNT. My favorite cartoon series in general. I love all 4 games (even Battle Nexus and Mutant Melee). To me, they have character and each is so unique. I played all of those on PC except Mutant Nightmare which I own and played on PS2 (Mutant Melee was released on PC too), even with 3 other friends when possible. I simply feel somehow sad the TMNT 2K3 games stopped with Mutant Nightmare which was based on Season 3, but, I understand why that happened. Bad sales, weak reviews, they tried.

The 2007 TMNT console game may not be to your liking but the GBA game is actually a solid 2D beat ‘em up. And lots of people who made the GBA TMNT game went on to make Shredder’s Revenge.

I think PS2 manuals just generally are like that, earlier games have lovely full colour manuals and later ones are black and white cause it's cheaper to print

I feel like looking back now I never gave '03 Turtles a fair shot. By then I was in college and had pretty much gotten into other things. Also I had severe nostalgia bias for the 80s/early 90s Turtles. I do remember watching and liking a few episodes but never really getting into it. I would love to try and give '03 Turtles another shot now that I'm older and can appreciate a more serious Turtle series.

As someone whos been around since the original comics, You gotta give the 2012 Nick turtles a chance. Every turtles series starts off feeling for "childish" than the previous because thats how every series is. Every Turtles incarnation starts off light hearted, even with how "serious" 2003 's first episode felt, they quickly get with the yucks. You only remember that series being always serious because thats how our memories work, and your forgetting how goofy and toyetic EVERY TMNT series and movie is. And just like 2003, the 2012 get into a groove and give us those mature stories the TMNT can do. Its the same with Rise, everyone called it for babies and what we actually got was a fun series with hands down the best action the turtles have ever had. TLDR every piece of Turtles media is made for kids, even things pandering to older fans still wants and aims for kids, never forget that.

The NES version of TMNT Arcade was one of the first video games I ever played (if not THE first), so I've always had a soft spot for it. Played it at my next door neighbor's home. In retrospect, I'm surprised how behind the times we were then, cause it was the late 90s at the time and we were playing NES games! Also played TMNT 03 a lot too at another old friend's home. I remember playing as Leo and hearing him say "Slice n dice" over and over again. Never played any of these other games though.

Hi Retro I recommend gameboy advance Ubisoft’s tmnt, this one is a home run. It is Scott pilgrim beat ‘em up but with tmnt. It has depth, good graphics, and is fun. I recommend playing it on the Retron sq with the option of a hdmi to composite\ s video adapter.

Definitely. Some of the people who worked on the Shredder's Revenge also worked on the GBA TMNT when they were at Ubisoft Montreal and it shows. Of course it's not as polished as it could be, being a first attempt and an Ubisoft-published liscenced handheld game, but it's great fun.

The arcade 1up looks better with the frost sticker removed. I didn’t think it came off but it does. I have one and to each their own though. It took 100 people telling me it came off for me to peel it off. Glad I did. Anyway great video. 😎👍🏻

The Original TMNT 2003 Console Beat’em Up was so underrated! It is a shame to see so many older fans not giving it a chance! I’m 23 so the 2003 show was my jam, but I still love the classic games.
