i'm a few decades older now and I can safely say i was right when i was in high school and i said REM was the best rock band in American history.

I had a fascination with R.E.M. that started in the mid-2000s when I decided to spend my barely-usable income to by Automatic for the People, which I loved immediately. One of those albums that catches you by surprise as you progress. I bought two live DVDs next: Perfect Square from 2003, and Tourfilm from the Green tour. I started with Perfect Square because I was more familiar with post-Automatic tracks, and didn't like it much at all. Not expecting much, I watched Tourfilm some time later, and it cemented my love for this band and what they were capable of. Since then they've been a keeper. Since I've been staying home since COVID-19 came down, I decided to dust off my DVD player a couple of days ago to play Tourfilm again - the first optical video disc I've played in at least five years - and it was awesome to get absorbed into again. It was shortly after then that I heard that Bucky Baxter, who played pedal steel on "World Leader "Pretend" had died the same day.

Mike Mills is a beast on those backing vocals. Undertow is one of my favourite REM songs, great stuff.

Amazing Rock band!! This performance was killer, especially "The Wake Up Bomb" they (R.E.M.) kicked that song's ass during this show! An extremely underrated song for sure! I really miss going to R.E.M. gigs!!

Nash1965H YEAH saw this live too😎😎😎 and I was intrigued by the title as it DOES (based on the name) sound like something Soundgarden would title one of their albums Y'know?!?

One of the few bands in rock history who were finished once they lost their drummer (Zeppelin & The Who are two others that come to mind).

It's a combination of two different nights (note Michael's sudden wardrobe change b&w vs color footage) it doesn't take away from the intensity but it does distract once you notice it...

They were like four sonic painters...incredible...they lost a colour when Bill became Ill...then they became 3...was never the same after...do like a fair bit of their post Berry stuff...but something was blatantly missing obviously .

That's a Chicago Black Hawks jersey around Michael Stipe's waist, with the native American caricature facing out in center for everyone to see, wasn't that insensitive even in 1996? Controversial, at least.

Stipe was really down when he wrote these songs. The lyrics are quite bleak and nihilistic! It does not sound like he has any faith in anything. What a sad and painful predicament and place to be! If you believe in nothing, you have nothing to look forward to, do you? It all becomes pointless and empty after a while. And you are lost! But I have a rock that anchors me and you can guess what it is. It’s called the Cross! And I know the Lord sent his only Son to die for me. And I’m never alone! But you believe in nothing and to nothing you shall return. Dust to Dust! But my Spirit will live on forever in Heaven with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I will have Eternal Life by his Side! Amen! 🙏🏻 And all the Wicked and Evil people will be cast into the Lake of Fire 🔥 and Eternal Torment! Amen ! 🙏🏻
