I worked as a firearm specialist for a big box store, not on the sales floor. When I had to work the counter and let the customer compare, the Tikka always won out. Never had one come back in for any reason. Best bolt gun, even better for the money, than anyone else, excluding custom shops. Own a T3 Lite and is my favorite rifle to grab.

I went with the Tikka as I needed a lefthanded model in 6.5 Creedmoor. I paired it with a Leupold scope. I am an adult onset hunter and my first hunt was this past fall in Wyoming for Pronghorn. Was successful and harvested a decent buck. My shot was over 200 yards and the Tikka performed without an issue.

I used to own a 700 long range in 300 WM, I currently own a T3X lite in 300 WM. I’ll take the Tikka all day, every day. Even though the Tikka is a substantially lighter rifle than the Remington, the recoil impulse feels milder. The action on the Tikka is much better too. Every time I cycle it, it loads and locks appropriately. With the Remington, it wouldn’t lock when I would cycle it normally. Instead, I would have to run through the normal process, and pull the bolt about halfway back and push it forward again before it would lock. This happened probably 90% of the time. The Tikka also wins on accuracy. Every time I’ve run my Tikka, I get groups at 1 MOA or tighter. The Remington was routinely a 2 MOA rifle. I’ve had other Remingtons (2 different 700 SPS AACs, one in .308 Win, and one in 6.5 CM), and they shoot well. But, comparable Tikkas have still outperformed them.

maybe I missed it but what about cost factor ? In Canada the Rem. 700 is cheaper and there are many many options available to modify a 700 series rifle. I have just installed a Harrel's tuner/brake on my Rem 700 and my 5 shot groups @ 100 yds 223 cal. have been reduced from 5/8" before to 3/8" now. This for a cost of $145.00 cdn. That Tikka will do better than 3/8" ? I have left two new T3x 223 Tikkas at my club well behind now.

Remingtons stocks and triggers are the main issue. Once you change those, its usually a great gun. Mine is half moa since getting a new stock and trigger. Having only paid 500 bucks for my remington, it left me room to get what i needed to make it the rifle i wanted. So its going to depend on your budget and what you can do at the time. The remington can be made into a very accurate gun pretty easily.

I have a TIKKA T3X in 223. I like it and it shoots under 1" no problem. One drawback not mentioned is for short action cartridges, you still have to make a long action bolt throw. I measured the spacer in the magazine and its about 1.12" extra and unnecessary bolt throw. It would be nice if TIKKA came out with short actions like most other companies instead of this cost cutting measure. I purchased an extra 6 round magazine, but it doesn't feed properly. Plastic feed lips can wear, leading to problems down the road. I had a Remington 700 BDL purchased in the 1980's and never had an issue with it feeding in more than 20 years. I should have never sold it. Also, I had a TIKKA in 30-06 about 15 years ago that didn't come close to meeting the 1" guarantee. At one time (maybe still) the Remington 700 action was known as the strongest in the business and was the most widely used action for custom and target rifles. My Remington 700 was much more solidly built than the TIKKA T3X. I agree that today the TIKKA is better quality than the Remington 700 out of the box. But it has its downfalls too. Hopefully someone will pickup the Remington 700 line and restore the quality and be competitive again.

Working on Remington 700...its addictive. Assuming that you get a Remington 700 action (say something like $700~$1,000), you WILL eventually spend $1,000~$2,000 for a good scope. Yes you will. And you will eventually grow into MDT or McMillan Chassis/Stock (another $600~$1,000). And then you will replace the rail to Badger Ord. (or other top tier rail/mount) which is another $200~$300. Then, you work yourself to get you a Atlas or SKye Pod (another $300~$400)...and then Surefire muzzle brake and its silencer (another $1,200)...so total, you WILL spend about $3,500~$4,000 MINIMUM!!! Yes, YOU ALL GET THERE... But it's worth every penny.

Most rifles built today are extremely accurate though. Barrel technology has come so far that most rifles are at least capable of 1moa.. I feel like there's a lot more variance in fit/finish, weight, price, features and durability then there is in accuracy these days.

I owned a Remington 700 aac sd for over a decade. I loved it until my brother and I went on a hunt and there was light rain. My 700 had rust pits within hrs and his t3x had nothing. I sold my rem and bought the tikka 308. Bolt is smoother, light and crisp. Over all the tikka out performed the Rem 700. I think the Rem has a lot if hype.

I like the custom safety for the Remington 700 I have one it locks the bolt on safe but instead of having to flip the safety on fire you just depress the safety and it will open on safe position

Out of the box overall value has to go to the Tikka. With little to nothing in ad ons they just get the job done. I'm a owner of many Remington 700's, mostly vintage models and they are great rifles. The downside is most of them need extra investment in trigger systems, stock work etc... to see what they are capable of. Once again, the Tikka is a better value out of the box. Still love the Iconic 700 though. Too bad a man can't buy them anymore unless you are willing to pay super inflated prices now that many of them are considered collectors!!

Tikka is the best rifle dollar per dollar on the market imo. In the last decade I won't touch a remington. Last remington I bought was utter garbage. Thankfully I was able to sell it for a loss, but I then tried a Tikka (which was cheaper) and shot way better.

They actually used to lock, but it changed in the newer rifles. I couldnt say what year. I've heard that it was due to people complaining about having to take the rifle off safe to open the bolt. Can't verify this a the gospel, but I have a 700 from the 70s that has to be taken off safe, and my newer 700 rifles from the 2000s dont.

Tikka and Sako take alot of pride in what they do. I have a tikka 223 varmint 20 inch heavy brl and at 100 yards I can hit a dime consistently. mine is garunteed 5 shots under 1 moa or send it back. that's a hell of a garuntee for a reason.

I have an early 80s made Remington 700. It’s a great rifle. I got my first deer ever with it years ago. It’s got a lot of sentimental value. But I’ve also got a 2019 Tikka that shoots 1/2 Moa groups routinely. For a new rifle, the Tikka wins by a considerable margin. It’s really not much of a contest.

Hi im from Sweden and the tikka is wery Common here, there are some things you missed, there is in total 28 diffrent models of the tikka exluding the diffrent types of ammo. For about the same price. But one thing you missed that are pretty important is that you kan change the front stock and the grip to diffrent types so that they fit your prefrece. I just bought a Tikka superlite stainless...I was disappointed in all the plastic...plastic trigger guard, plastic magazine, plastic bolt release. It cost over $200 to replace these with metal aftermarket parts.

Bolt release is plastic on the superlite? My lite it is not plastic. The magazines work perfectly fine, and lighter than a metal equivalent, for hunting they work great. Trigger guard is sad that it’s plastic, but over the years mine hasn’t broke

The metal's decreased flexibility removes vibration. These two benefits together increase accuracy. From a gun digest review of Tikka T3 "Unfortunately, I have had factory Tikka polymer bottom metals break, where the action screws interface with the bottom metal. In my home state of New Mexico, it can be near freezing in the morning and 95 degrees in the afternoon. Remington 700s are phenomenal guns if you get them for a good price and put the work in to customize them. The aftermarket support is insane for those guns. I’ve shot 800+ yards consistently with my Remington chambered in .270 and killed tons of elk, deer, and antelope with it here in WY. It was my first rifle and has been customized to do everything I want. That being said, Most other off the shelf rifles are better in value than the Remington 700 for the same price by far.

My Tikka T3 in 270 is one of the most accurate guys I have ever shot. Its actually disturbing because after that gun I will always question the accuracy of any other guns. I do feel one of the largest factors is the trigger is unbelievable for a factory trigger. I would compare it to a Geissle single stage trigger in terms of a crisp clean break.

I have owned just about every type / brand of centerfire rifle made in the last 75 yrs including some $2000+. Custom rifles. The Tikka T3 x is hands down the lightest, most accurate, smoothest action rifle I have had. Rem 700’s in the last 20 yrs are clunky junk for the most part.

The extractor on the Remington 700 is the worst in the market. The half moon floating extractor invariably fails and costs $50 for each new one which is nearly impossible to install without bending it. It is a good gun if you could put a Tikka bolt in it. I have both a Sendero and a Tikka.

I have owned both an older Remington 700 PSS in 223 ,and a Tikka t3 223 ,my Remington had 1-12 Tikka 1-8 twist ,The Remington would slightly out shoot the tikka ,but the Tikka can handle the heavier bullets ,I've owned a few Remington 700's all were extremely accurate out of the box ,this is my 1st Tikka seems to be better quality and does 1/2 moa ..But its a toss up for me ,both are great rifles .

If you are talking of recently produced Remingtons I would have to agree. However I have a Remington 760 in 270 WIN from the 1970s. Pump action yet more accurate than any of my bolt action including a TIKKA T3x in 223. I get groups at 100 yards with factory ammunition where all bullet holes are touching. The best a single enlarged hole. Original metal magazine that is around 45 years old and still working fine. I doubt TIKKA's plastic magazine will last that long. I have 2 for the TIKKA and already one is having misfeeds. Other than my great grandfather's 1895 Winchester, the Remington 760 would be the last rifle I would part with, and I have many fine bolt action rifles. Remington once produced high quality firearms at a fair price even TIKKA would have a hard time competing with.

I've never been able to cycle through rounds when loading my R700 using the internal "mag". It's terrible. Dad got this tikka and just got the tac a1. The tac a1 is just glorious. Amazing rifle. Gonna sell my 700 and get another tikka soon.

Hi Mr Bullets . I am from the UK 🇬🇧, just found your channel you have a couple of videos I am pleased I have found. I am currently waiting to purchase my new rifle and have been researching both the Reminton and Tikka. Both have models that will suit my use, the Tikka currently is in first place for many of the reasons you described. I don’t want to add aftermarket triggers, stock etc to make the gun I want. I am looking at 223 for hunting and vermin control, weight is an import aspect so is accuracy. I have a Howa 1500 heavy barrel Varmint which is getting old now but that said it will print half MOA with home loaded ammo. I am now going to watch your Howa / Tikka comparison. The reason for so many custom barrels and accessories for Remington that they have been around for a long time, much longer than Tika and used to be reasonably priced and readily available. If Tika had been around the US market for the last 50 years the Remington 700 story would be a whole lot different.

It’s sad the recent build quality of the Rem 700 has degraded so much compared to the first 25 years of production. I have 2 BDLs and an ADL from the mid-1960’s/1980’s era. All are fine shooters and compare nicely with my Tikka T3x in all areas except weight. I also have a fairly recent SPS in 243 that has been back to Remington twice for trigger issues. This one loses out to the Tikka across the board. I guess this is what happens when mass production processes replace skilled gunsmiths in manufacturing. I understand this is to keep costs down, but you can’t help comparing the old vs new and feeling some loss.

The rear of the bolt is closed on the tikka so if you get a pierced primer or one that leaks around the sides of the primer pocket the 60,000 psi of hot gas get blocked before hitting you in the eye and the face. Remington 700 offers a gas pathway straight to your eyeball for pierced primers. And the idiots at Savage used to have a closed back of the bolt and have been changing to a cocking indicator/ firing pin out the back in the middle of the bolt to direct 60,000 PSI Pierced primer gas directly into your eye.

I had one did a lot of testing on it and had huge accuracy issues a couple years ago. Since then I haven't wanted to lose money on another. However I am sure most are great probably got a lemon.

I own 2 Tikkas. The TAC A1 and the CTR. Both shoot 1 inch or less at 200 yards. On a bipod and bag. Hornady 140 eld match. 👍

I have had my Remington Bolt open up and throw the round out in the woods from being caught on brush more than once. And was trying to make a quick shot on a deer and lost the opportunity from manipulating the bolt to reload . Luckily I have not lost a bolt yet. The Recoil lug system on the Remington completely sucks . Same with Savage. The extractor on the tikka is completely superior to the remington. I have gone to one piece Picatinny bases on my Remingtons. The base screws will eventually come loose on a Remington no matter how tight you think they are. The bases need to be glued down and the base screws need to be treated with Loctite or glue.

I was looking at getting a bolt action for mountain hiking/hunting, something I can beat up (my 1969 Belgium BAR is too fancy to scratch 😂) and the tikka seems like the perfect choice. My browning is in .308 so was thinking staying the same but would be open to other calibers… any recommendations?

308 is still a viable useful caliber for hunting no matter what all of the hype and marketing says. I actually have the same gun in the same caliber and I would say use it if you have it. If you are hunting and jump something up and have to shoot quick the BAR allows quick follow-up shots so you can double tap or triple tap it before it disappears.

Tikka has the best stock action and bolt. I think Remington offers much better stocks. Trigger goes to tikka. Remmington offers much more customization. I own both and plan on getting a rem 700 mountain soon as well as an awr. My brother just got a t3x superlight and it is awesome. Just hate the plastic feel to the stocks and the plastic bottom/trigger guard. If they offered upgraded stocks like the remington, I would not have a reason to buy anything else ever

What is the quality of Tikka T3 synthetic stocks? Do they have bedding blocks, pillars? Also I've heard that Tikka magazines are plastic? Thanks.

Tikka magazine is plastic, stock is piller bedded. Trigger guard is plastic the stock leaves a lot to be desired. However I think tikka came out with some models this year with better stocks. It is better than most other plastic stocks however but just not on par with a fiberglass, carbon fiber or stocks like the hmr with an aluminum bedding block

I will agree with you I have an older tika t3 in 270 wsm shoots great. I have a remington long range 25-06 it is terrible I sent it back to the factory bnb it dented my shells and shoots over 6" groups at 100 yards when I got it back it still shoots 6" groups and scratches the shells they said it is up to specs I am not sure what to do with it? Too bad of shot to hunt with

Talking to gunsmiths- tikka don’t really need trueing, Remington do. Depends how accurate you want to be. Almost all after market stocks are made for Remington. Less so for tikka. Depends how much you want to modify your rifle.

I like the Howa poster behind. Not hatin' honestly like it. The rem Long range is not great get a CDL. Tikka is the Honda Civic Hatchback of rifles. I'll you ponder that one. Agreed. I mean its not a bad option for the cost. Mine had failures in limited use in 2 seasons. Also their bluing sucks and their customer service meh (from a buddies experience. Then again you get what you pay for in any rifle. Howa is a solid option as well
