REMNANT From The Ashes REVIEW: Should You Buy in 2023?

Here is my update Remnant from the ashes review in 2023. I played through the game again and wanted to give a more up to date review of the game with the release on Switch, and Remnant 2 coming out later this year! Hope you like it.
ABOUT THIS GAME
Remnant: From the Ashes is a third-person survival action shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monstrous creatures. As one of the last remnants of humanity, you’ll set out alone or alongside up to two other players to face down hordes of deadly enemies and epic bosses, and try to carve a foothold, rebuild, and then retake what was lost.

The world has been thrown into chaos by an ancient evil from another dimension. Humanity is struggling to survive, but they possess the technology to open portals to other realms and alternate realities. Thanks for making this video! I ignored this game when it first released because I was avoiding all souls-like games. I’m now more willing to play a souls-like game & recently started playing Remnant FTA. I was very pleasantly surprised to find myself very much enjoying the 1960’s sci-fi story that is found by reading the computer data logs as well as notes & diaries. Also I found it very helpful to use melee to break almost every object made of wood (chairs, boxes, etc.) - because the Scrap (in-game currency) can be used to purchase weapons & consumable items.😊

Facts between alt boss kills and secret mechanics you stay busy ,the hardest thing to do period is finding a dependable partner to play that permadeath hardcore mode , but the rewards are damn good

Appreciate the comments. Some of the mechanics are really crappy which would lead a lot of people to not do permadeath mode. If you die because of your ability, that is different than dying to a game bug or bad mechanic. Cheers!

Pro tip. Learn to neutral dodge. Which is pressing the evade button without pushing your character in any direction. Meaning dont roll directionally. Its faster..you get better i frames, and you can use it to put out yourself if your on fire. The fire trick works with rolling as well.

This game honestly was like finding a diamond in the ruff when you weren't even looking. Story, music score, and gameplay are all fantastic. If you like fps, dark souls like titles, this is for you.

Melee build is so satisfying when you perfect it. Leto's armor set is a must. You can pair this with twisted idol for increased armor rating and a proper dodge roll. Leeching embers is another must-have for increased survivability. Getting 5% of your health back per hit really does help a lot in the long run.

@VaniverseGaming you are correct on that one. Why it should be paired with a good regen per sec ring and long range mods. I'd also run either AR or shotgun. My melee build has the icicle spear and mantle of thorns.

Really, the build is more along the lines of a tank over melee, but still very satisfying.

XBOX USERS: This game is now on sale. 13 quid, or about 20 quid for the game + both DLC's. Series s/x users note this game DOES have an FPS boost to 60, making it feel somewhat next gen and not a game from previous gen.

To note there is a reason to play survival mode as it counts how many bosses you’ve killed. Basically when you reach a boss kill milestone you get a piece of gear that carries over to all your characters/main character. And if you die the boss kill counter does not reset. Let’s say you need 50 boss kills in Survival to unlock a piece of gear so that it carries over to all your characters, if you die that counter does not reset. The game remembers all the boss kills you’ve had ever in survival. To get the final piece of gear unique to Survival you need 100 boss kills in that mode. Same also applies to Hardcore mode, people play that mode mostly for a item called the Nightmare Spiral. Basically you unlock unique pieces of gear in hardcore mode that can carry over to all your characters/main character. Nightmare Spiral being the final reward piece by beating the Campaign in Hardcore.

Rewards For Survival Mode: (these items transfer to your account meaning all your characters that you have or newly create will have these items in their inventory) 250 Total Equipment Acquired: Ring of Flawless Beauty 5 Consecutive Boss Kills or buy for 50 glowing fragments: Adventurer Goggles 10 Consecutive Boss Kills or buy for 100 glowing fragments: Hero's Sword 25 Total Boss Kills: Loop of Prosperity 50 Total Boss Kills: Talisman of Perseverance 75 Total Boss Kills: Daredevil's Charm 100 Total Boss Kills: Black Rose Defeat every normal boss twice: Black Cat Band Defeat every world boss twice: Bright Steel Ring Defeat every boss twice: White Rose

These are the rewards you get for beating the game on Hardcore difficulty (perma death), and like Survival the rewards carry over to your account meaning it will be in all current and newly created character’s inventory. Great video Vaniverse! Very informative and thorough. Quick question: You said that enemies scale with weapon upgrades, and recommended not upgrading weapons, and rather invest in traits. Does that mean upgrading weapons is essentially pointless altogether? Or worse, could it end up being counterproductive? Also, how would the gameplay be effected if I progressed through the entire campaign without upgrading a weapon at all, and only upgrade traits, vs upgrading both naturally as I progress? Thanks for the video again. I've had this game on the to do list for a while now.

As someone currently downloading the game I also have this question now. These types of games usually have better loot from harder mobs, so perhaps upgrades allow the player to control when they are underpowered or overpowered with suitable reward for risk. Or not, I guess we'll see.

You have to upgrade what you're using evenly. So if you have your weapons upgraded to level 8 and your armor is level 3 you are going to deal damage but your also going to get hurt bad when you get hit. The game takes an average of all your gear to set enemy level. Once you unlock a level (area name pops up) the area level is locked in. If you upgrade after that it will not change but when you unlock the next area or dungeon it will recalculate. If you still aren't sure, exit the game and check your player level. If it says your player level is 12 and you're using level 6 weapons or armor you're under leveled. Boss items or anything you need lumenite to upgrade go up two levels everytime you upgrade it. Normal weapons go to level 20. Boss weapons go to level 10. So a level 7 Boss weapon is going to average into your enemy level like a level 14 normal weapon.

I should also mention that when you beat the World Boss for each World the entire world's level is locked at was it was when you accomplished it. If you re-roll your world at any point the levels re-roll to your current levels.

No. The only thing that changes is the MAP. So if you reroll EARTH, then when you travel to earth everything will be reset, and all dungeons and even the world boss would change. Cheers!

A simple and honest review. Thank you. Unfortunately, this game doesn't really seem like it's for me. Don't get me wrong. I'm cool with Dark Souls and such, but this game really feels like it's putting a huge emphasis on co-op. Even just reading reviews. Not being able to pause in a singleplayer game just screams "we built this game for co-op and balanced it around co-op".

I used to sacrifice graphics and performance for gyro aim on Switch too, but now I'm playing on Xbox with the Xim Nexus, which is 3rd party hardware with a workaround to get gyro aim on games without official supoprt. It's pretty rad, but kinda pricey tbh. Also, the set up process, while pretty straight forward, isn't as convenient as 1st party support. Worth it for me though, as a gyro aim zealot. Just throwin that out there, as it's something I've been stoked on since I got it.

Revenant two was just short months away when this video posted so the answer is no you should not buy remnant from the ashes by unless you’re getting it really cheap. There’s no carryover from one game to the next and you don’t need to play the first game understand the second game.

Hmm this is a tough one. They are two very different games. Outward to me is more of an exploration/survival game. Remnant is more of a third person shooter/rogue lite with RPG elements. In my opinion I feel like Remnant is a better game overall. Outward was very janky at time and had some frustrating parts to it. Remnant is frustrating at times due to some of the boss mechanics and being attacked from all sides but over all, I feel that Remnant had me more engaged and exited to keep playing than Outward.
