Top notch video my friend thank you very much, exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely be going with the FM Polaris.May i ask what brand of sparker that is.

That's good to hear! It's just called the pulse piezo from ebay. There are a few posher branded ones, but I imagine they are all pretty similar. The cheapo one works fine. Fire maple doi one too. Thanks for the positive feedback. I am trying to get out of bed to head down the woods to do another stove thing, so need the push!

I believe msr are still king of remote gas stoves, it's a shame they had to start under engineering their liquid pumps for profit, any how I have started using the old monitor stove.

Which msr stoves in particular. Did you watch the cold vs gas one I did? Soto are making some good stuff.

Hi Dave, a lot of detail here and a series amount of time and effort to do this video. Honestly even for you..... I just dont have 30 mins to watch all of this so thank you for the time stamps... I have found that my Fire Maple Polaris canister top is great in the wind. Even when you have it on a low simmer the wind doesn't effect it much which is amazing... All the very best wishes Tom

I feel seriously hurt Tom, not even 30 minutes for little old meeeee. I watch all of yours twice all the way through whilst in a bath of goats milk.

MSR make the best remote gas stove IMO however you only need to look at all the very well used surplus Optimus Polaris liquid fuel stoves on eBay used by our military in cold climates (the best liquid fuel stove) along with a good helping of very old well used Coleman 440's and then look at the reviews of MSR's liquid pump reviews (which are quite shocking). I see these as a possible option but would still use the original brands that would outlive me.

Excellent comparison Dave. I have ordered the FM Polaris remote, primarily on the strength of your video. Some others have not been so kind but I think you have the priorities right. I have a Trangia 27 with the pre-heat feed tube and that has a tendency to flare when inverting the canister. The Swedes love to keep things simple and assume minimum standards of common dog from their customers. Looking at the design of the pressure regulator, that shouldn't happen with this one. I wonder how much less the Polaris would weigh in titanium. Finally, my beaten up old ally windshield needs renewing. Do you know of any which is light, strong, compact and secure in a high wind? It is a sorely neglected subject. I almost bought a titanium item from 4-dog stove in the US, when I ordered an original HA Mors pot. I wish now that I had. I think I'll end up making my own perfect one at a prohibitive cost. Thanks again Dave.

@@Fellmandave1 Thanks for the tip Dave but I'm all done with aluminium windshields. I've ordered some titanium roll, 0.3 x 200 x 800 mm from ebay for £36 with postage. More than enough for a decent windshield and a bit to spare for practising on. I've got some Ti rods 3mm dia. off an old mod to my bushbox to pin it to the ground. The FM polaris remote has not disappointed. The pressure increases slightly when the can is inverted but no flaring at all - much safer for youngsters in a tent. It can take a hefty old pot, although the burner base will touch the ground (or windshield base) under flexing of the supports. Nice grippy pot stands, almost perfectly sized and it runs well enough on a 25/25/50 gas mix although FM say 30/70 only. Did you ever discover the problem with the Lava multi-fuel burner?
@Fellmandave111 ай бұрын
@TheRunereaper useful info thanks. TBH I have not touched the lava since. They say it will be upgraded and sent to me.

Fantastic video@@Fellmandave1, thank you! I was already favouring the Polaris Remote stove, and I was wondering about the safety of using it with a windshield. Have you done this, and do you know if Firemaple say it is safe to use a windshield with the Polaris?

@user-bp5dx2sd5j glad you liked it. Have a look at my stove melting mistakes video. Basically s wind shield is fine but don't enclose the gas canister.

Dave, thanks for the comparison video. The pre-heat tube of the Blade 2 is meant to allow to invert the canister which is meant to then ensure a consistent burn in all conditions which should make the pressure regulator of the Polaris superfluous. Does it? You seem to be saying the pressure-regulator is better than the pre-heat tube? I own the Trangia gas adaptor which has a pre-heat tube, and the FMS-117T which is like the Blade 2 apart from the pre-heat tube.
@Fellmandave1 Жыл бұрын
Well. There is no way that the pre heat tube can allow for low canister pressure, which happens when it's cold , but the pre heat tube just look after the due latent heat of evaporation problem. In my lab tests both did fine, but this winter I will be testing in real world conditions. I just know my oex vulcan with a pre heat tube was really bad in the cold and pathetic as the canister cooled. I guess pressure regulated stoves are fairly new and I have seen no other decent tests on YT comparing, have you? Thanks for commenting.
