I use this all the time as a second monitor off of my ipad and even my iphone at times. I do that especially with coloring because most viewer will see the video on those devices. This is a very useful tool.

It's a great way to get a quick preview for a mobile audience 👍🏻

Barrett you are a lifesaver. I am about to hop into a remote grading session with a client in 30 minutes, and I had no idea the remote monitor app works on a laptop! I thought it was just limited to mobile devices or an ipad. Thank you!!

Love this feature. I typically use this and then connect via Zoom so that I have a live chat with the client. One issue I have with this, or any remote viewing feature, is that you hear your show on your local speakers, and then you hear the delayed playback on your client's device and it get's muddled. Have you seen any good solution for this? Currently I have to wear headphones so that they do not hear the audio coming from my speakers playback via Zoom and through the remote viewing. Thx.

There a lots of potential things that can go wrong. It's probably best to reach out to Blackmagic's support team

If the steps aren't working I would recommend checking the Resolve Manual and then reaching out to support if things still are still causing issues

I've attempted to use the software for client colour work via iPad Mini and iPhone and the gamma is just way too crushed. Not within tolerance at all. Yet the same signal/session will look 90% correct when viewing on a desktop/laptop. There's something about the mobile side of this software that is just not interpreting Resolve properly.

I haven't worked with the mini, but my experience has been quite good with the iPad Pro

Hello Barret. I have been testing the remote monitor but I have run into a problem and that is that the signal to the iPad/iPhone or MacBook looks much more contrasty than what I have on my reference monitor. It doesn't matter if I'm working in Aces at rec 709 2.4 or directly in Davinci yrgb rec 709 2.4, always on my client app monitoring and my MacBook it looks super contrasted. Any suggestions to avoid / solve this?

I've heard of a few people having this issue, but the trick is that I can't seem to replicate it on my end....My guess is that somewhere along the image pipeline there is a color management problem (either in the tools or display). But it's hard for me to recommend a fix since I haven't run into the same issue

Question: is remote monitor gets signal from my reference monitor or from GUI monitor, because on my GUI the color is not correct because is not calibrated like my reference

I believe Remote Monitor is a clean output from Resolve similar to how an output card gives you a clean output unaffected by the OS

Is it ok to use zoom?

Zoom meetings and shared screens are unreliable sadly, and the compression is terrible especially in the shadows and blacks Davinci Remote Monitor is a much better solution

@@BarrettKaufman from a developer perspective, I think this is just BS. Because I'd you're on a good wifi just make sure data saving is turned off on zoom. Make sure you toogle on Hd box and you're good. Cause looking at the back end code davinci runs with, it almost same thing as zoom. Most of the time when you use the higher birate on resolve it lags no matter how fast your internet is. I did a side by side comparison with zoom and remote grade but the difference where not even noticable unless internet connection drops. This is after I used vpn. Remote app is also just screen sharing

@@factor3208 I’m glad your experience with zoom has been better than mine Zoom (to my understanding) also does not have color management control and doesn’t support color managed HDR streaming All that said, use whatever works best for your situation. Best of luck my friend

So remote on a Mac device (like iPad) that has amazing screen, but host has to be on a PC 😂😂😂 what a drag…. Fingers 🤞🏼 for M chip or AMD support

The host can be any OS. PCs and Linux have the added requirement of needing an RTX GPU. I've hosted off Macs as well
