Just in case you haven't figured a way to know if the car's running, you should be able to use battery voltage. It should be ~12.8 volts when the car's off, once it's started you should be reading 14 and change once the alternator begins to charge. Just a thought! Cool project.

James Bush I was thinking the same thing. Measure the voltage, and send a text after 30 seconds if the voltage isn't where it should be.

Jeff, I've copied all your project without the sensor and my sim card reads a new message but does not print the smsNumber and the smsMessage. Also (All been connected) it does not send the signal to the relays board. Another question is: Why you divided up the new SMS? I'll appreciate any help. You can call me to myPhoneNum. Thank you very much.

Ben, I've all the project connected and running, but when when I send a txt the serial print shows this: "New SMS Message 002B00310032 800270031","", and it does nothing on the relays. I do not understand this. Could you, or anyone respond? Thank you very much in advance.

250 texts a year, but using it everyday...that math don't add up

The plan has free incoming text messages, though it costs $0.10 to send a message from the device. So I can send the car as many text message commands as I want, though commands that require a response (Like getting the temperature) will use up credit. Since I don't use those commands much, I shouldn't run out of credit any time soon.
