This video saved me ~1000$ today. I was able to remove both the inlet side of the fitting and the water flow sensor side of the fitting without disconnecting any wires, I was able to clean the flow turbine and reinstall the whole thing. Everything worked flawlessly afterwards. The hardest part was removing the wire spring clip that holds the turbine in the flow sensor body. In any case, thanks so much your video and explanation is truly appreciated.

Hi MIke, I have an R75ls that stopped working. No error code. I watched this video and one of the others, and it seemed that there may be an issue with the flow turbine. The videos gave me the confidence to proceed with the repair. When I opened the unit, I traced the wires you identified to their respective connectors. I found that one of the 3-wire connectors was green and corroded. When I took the connector apart, there were only two pins visible instead of 3. Since the wires came from the flow turbinie, I assumed that the signal was not getting to the contol board. I cleaned the connector and soldered jumper wire to the wires that were missing the connector pin. That solvled the problem! Thanks for your videos. You are a great instructor! Larry.

Mike - I have a State Water heater made in 2008 (which isn't even a State I'm told as it's made in Japan). That being said I just want to thank you for the video. I would have been taking cold showers for two weeks tomorrow. I watched your video and when I saw the sensor I realized I had an identical one in my unit. I pulled it apart Monday night and cleaned the valve with some PB Blaster and blew compressed air through it (as was recommended in another video I watched). Reassembled and got nothing. I'm in the automotive industry and quickly realized the flow sensor is basically a hall effect sensor. Mine was not good looking and I had no codes and never had the in use light come on. Replaced it tonight and it cured all my issues.

I have a Rinnai tankless unit that is 5 years old. I am also on a well that has high mineral content. Not a good mixture. For two years it has become unreliable to deliver hot water. Last week had a tech flush the unit...or at least try to and now I have no hot water. The only advice I would have is change the little filter very often if on a well with hard water. For me, I have gong to abandon the unit and have a normal tank water heater installed. The Rinnai saves money to operate but not worth the trouble. Excellent video.

Great information. Have you ever had an electric tankless, NOT turn off power to the primary element when flow is tuned off? This issue broke the flow sensor. Replaced the sensor and broke the new one, figuring out the issue. Third one is installed and working. Tested: elements, power, new flow sensor. I have not tested triacs or motherboard couplers. Most issues are no hot water. Mine is the opposite.

Great video. I have a RL94 model. Flow turbine was stuck. First video I saw said use compressed air to try and dislodge what might be sticking the turbine....no luck with that one. Your video showed me how to get access to the turbine in the first place, but still no joy doing anything one the two screw flange assembly (the one with the little screened filter) was loosened and the piping pulled over to the side. It still was not over to the side enough to give me full access. HOWEVER, I watched another video that saw me home free. It mentioned removing the 2-screw flanged assembly (unthread it) from the isolation valve assembly below it and it would give enough of an air gap to get to the turbine with some needle nose pliers. This allowed me to not have to break into the bowels of the RL94 unit. Cleaned out the turbine quickly and got back up and running in no time. Of all the videos i watched on this topic, yours was by far the most informative. Thanks for spending the time.

Great video! Question: We have a RUC80 and are having an issue where the dedicated closed loop that goes to a forced air heating system fires the burner, but running the hot water from our taps does not. In order to get hot water, we have to turn our thermostat up a few degrees, wait for the burner to kick in, and we can get tap hot water. Then when you are finished your dishes/shower, you turn the thermostat down again. But you could run the tap all day and no hot water, no error code, nothing. How could this occur, is it the water flow turbine as well? Thanks.

Wanted to leave an update here as I figured out that the position does matter. I opened up the motor assembly and saw a mechanism that appears to identify it's state. My theory is that an external controller tells the motor what state it should be in (high, med, low) and the motor just rotates itself until it's in the correct state. There's no feedback from the actual flow or valve so you do need to sync the valve and motor state. When reassembling I opened the valve all the way and adjusted the state mechanism to match based on the rotational direction of the knob. Hopes this helps someone in the future!

@ThatTanklessGuy3 жыл бұрын
The T&P is rite off the tankless snd makes the unit fire at high fire. One question if you turn all the hot water faucets on in your house does it give the code. @@ThatTanklessGuy Thank you for the quick response. The unit is brand new. The only way we can keep the water heater from throwing a code is first open the T&P then we can open all the faucets. Hey Mike, your videos are great. I have an old C85i which seems discontinued. I'd ordered the generic Rinnai water flow turbine you'd linked, hoping to swap and see if it fixes my issues. I can tell the turbine is only spinning intermittently when I blow in it, which exactly matches my hot water delivery :). Is there any way I can still get a replacement for that wider turbine for the M8E-15 water flow control device? I can't find it anywhere on the internet. Thanks in advance, I'm certain if I could replace this ~$7 part my issues would be fixed...but if not have no idea how to swap the larger device and worry I'll have to upgrade the whole unit. Anyway I've cleaned it like a jeweler and put it back in the system...

No code 10 is sir flow it’s either something obstructing the incoming air a fan problem or a dirty burner.

I have a Rinnai model 2532 with continuum control pad. I have a slightly different problem which is it seems to trip back to 108 degF from our usual setting of 120 degF (we live in the mountains). It seems like an electrical trip - but nothing is happening at my circuit breaker so must be the unit - wondering if anyone else has experienced this or can advise a fix! Thanks!

Mine isn't throwing a code and I just flushed it to see if i could fix it. It will shut off during long runs like a shower. 5 to 10 minutes and the water will get cold. RL94 and I am here because I suspected the flow sensor.

If you cleaned the inlet filter then it’s dirt in the water servo valve.

I have searched over 100 combinations of "What does a Rinnai Tankless Water Heater Sound Like?" To my incredible surprise, THERE IS NOT ONE VIDEO IN THE WORLD ON LINE SHOWING THIS SYSTEM ACTAULLY RUNNING. WIll somebody please take a video of this thing ACTUALLY RUNNING! My system works fine, but it sounds like a small vacuum when the exhaust fan kicks on. It is kind of loud. I am wondering if this is normal.

Thanks .My wife is so happy to have a hot shower on the weekend after I found grit in the flow sensor.

The official Rinnai video says to remove the filter, rinse it clean, then reinstall before de-scaling; then remove, rinse clean, and reinstall again half way through descaling.

There wrong you want to have the inlet fully open to get the most solution through the heat exchanger. There is a lot of things Rinnai has on their site that are wrong. Remember there in a lab, I'm in the field lol

So comparing Rinnai to other brands of Tankless Water Heaters on the market -- Why Rinnai? All of your videos are great but it does seem you talk a lot about maintenance and repairs on the Rinnai tankless heaters!
@ThatTanklessGuy2 жыл бұрын
I talk Maintance so people know what has to be done on them to last the 20 years if maintained properly. There are also units installed incorrectly I’m trying to let people know what has to be done to repair them

@@ThatTanklessGuy so part of my question was why the Rinnai tankless over anything else like a Rheem et all?

This video saved me ~1000$ today. I was able to remove both the inlet side of the fitting and the water flow sensor side of the fitting without disconnecting any wires, I was able to clean the flow turbine and reinstall the whole thing. Everything worked flawlessly afterwards. The hardest part was removing the wire spring clip that holds the turbine in the flow sensor body. In any case, thanks so much your video and explanation is truly appreciated.
