Hey, is this method valid for removing builder gel extensions, my nail tech used polygel to extend my natural nail and then sculpted the rest of my nail with builder gel from a pot, unfortunately one of the nails has popped off after being trapped under a box and another nail is starting to separate from my natural nail at the base and so i think its better to remove the outgrown nails to avoid them popping off and damaging my nail beds. The polygel has surrounded my natural nail at the tip and wonder if its possible to soak off in order to save my natural nail that has grown

I have read that builder gel is unable to be soaked off only filed off but wondering if same applies to polygel

@evax1289 Hard gels are soak off, soft gels are file off. Typically builder gels are soak off but there are some exceptions depending on the brand. I don't have good knowledge of polygel because I'm not trained in it and havent used it. You'd need to ask your nail tech about her specific brand of product and best practice for removal to make sure you do it properly. You'll know if a product isn't soak off though if you try to soak it and it isn't. File the top layer so any colour and top coat is removed then soak for 5 minutes and if the product is just slippery and not melted you'll know it's a file off...also file off gels are usually much easier to file too so that may also give you a clue

@evax1289 your best bet would be to have your nail tech remove them so you know it's being done right and you don't have to worry about causing damage to your natural nails in the removal process

Can I ask what drill bits you use to take off gel and what drill bits you use to file down builder gel please?

I use a mixture I think it's personal preference with what shapes of bits you prefer to use. To remove colour I use a fine or medium bit. If I was debulking builder for removal I'd use a coarse or extra coarse with light pressure because it's a soak off product
