Thank you! I've been trying to figure out how to get the muzzle brake off of my model 11 (same as your brake) and hadn't thought of heat, though I too determined a 3mm and 7/64" Allen wrench would fit through the holes. However, if the threads are that poorly done; I am not sure I want to bother now as I'd be concerned about getting anything back on there, the way those threads are damaged. Even worse if one was to pay a gunsmith to do it only to find out they had such poor quality threads. Makes me never want to buy another Savage.

I have a Savage 11 long range hunter also. I decided last night i was going to take mine off. I sprayed some Kroil on the brake and ran a allen wrench through the holes. Then got a pair of vise grips locked them tight enough were it didn't slip then took a rubber mallet and hit the vise grips it came right off. My threads looked perfect bought a silencer so had to get that brake off. hope this helps.
