Cook tip! Thanks Here are a couple of holesaw pro tips : -when cutting PVC with holesaw, run drill in reverse. -use a hole instead of a pilot bit to keep holesaw tracking if cutting uneven surface or cant have pilot hole in plug, ..just as an option should the pilot bit not be conducive to progress for any reason. Cut a hole into a hunk of ¾" plywood using holesaw. Clamp or hotglue or 2x stick mounting tape to mount hunk of plywood , aligning hole to area hole is needed. Now remove pilot bit, stick holesaw in hoke in plywood and start cutting your hole. -pilot bit should only stick out ½" max below holesaw to reduce the risk of kickback or otherwise binding up the saw and breaking the pilot bit.

Brandon Lund, cool. I'll keep that in mind. I've got lot's of tips n tricks I'd like to share. Maybe too many. I already subscribed but haven't checked out your catalog yet. Do you have any oxy/acet torch tips? A trick I use a lot, especially when using shop torches (as opposed to my own), if you cant get a sharp, defined flame n cone, with torch lit and as adjusted as you can get it, try to snuff out the flame on a piece of wood. (Be sure to have backflow devices installed, to be safe). Torch will pop like crazy. More popping is better than less. Then look at your flame. It should be almost picture perfect. It's a less evasive and way faster way to clean your oxy/acet torch tip. ..Be sure wood is not burning when finished Idk why that tip popped up. ..no pun intended.

Would running the bit in reverse in a keyless chuck drill just loosen it or?
@Greg-f5n6 ай бұрын
Brandon your tip was on the money, was drilling a 2 1/4 hole for a deadbolt lock cylinder when I felt the pop you describe. I finished the hole and of course the arbor adapter pins popped out of the hole saw. I tried using flat files, with vice grips with socket wrenches, rags with channel locks,nothing worked. Your video was one of the top hits and your instructions worked perfect. It took mee 3 times of the gentle tapping you demonstrated to loosen the arbor adaptor. Thanks for a great dyi tip, which save my Klein tools key hole tools!

It friggin worked! Thanks man! I used the pipe wrenches first, then left the hole saws for a few years...then tried again randomly and it came off with no effort. Awesome! Cheers to you!

Now this is how the KZbin was supposed to work: quick, informative and useful! I just bought my first hole saw kit, and the bigger ones I'm not worried about, but the smaller ones got no pins to keep them in place on the center drill, just the threads. Even an old mech engineering dropout such as myself can see where that train is headed...

Yeah I’m in the situation with a 1” bit and of course it’s stuck and now I’m on KZbin trying to figure out how to get it off
@BrandonLundАй бұрын
@rahzim the smaller bits are a little harder to remove. If you have a vise, clamp the arbors in a vise. With a gloved hand, rotate the bit counter clockwise as you tap the bit as shown here. You can also use water pump pliers instead of your hand, gripping it closer to the arbor end, not near the teeth. Good luck!

I tried hitting it with a hammer for 5 minutes, and it never loosened. I eventually hit it harder until it was barely denting it, and still nothing. I then saw the impact driver with a 11/32 socket on the back of the hole saw shank, and I tried that. I put a welding glove on though, and put a couple old shop towels around the bit, plus I was holding it on the sides, not the teeth, and it came right off.

Brandon Lund Hi Brandon, Great tip. Question: What 1-3/8 hole saw with standard arbor do you recommend using with a De--Walt 1/2 inch electric deck, with variable speeds, to create a 1-3/8 hole on the corner of a acrylic tub. The tub is approx 1/4 inch in thickness. I am concerned the body of the drill might prevent me from holding the drill directly over the spot I wish to drill. I'm guessing I need to cover tub service with mastic tape first, and then drill a 1/8 inch pilot hole. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks
@BrandonLund5 жыл бұрын
Whenever I drill a tub, I drill a hole through a piece of 1/4" luan then I just place the wood where I want the hole. It decreases the chance of your bit wandering off and damaging the tub.
@RitsOfFallsCity2 жыл бұрын
What about for the smaller ones in a Spyder set? The 3/8 arbor doesn't have the posts or the collar locking the bit in place. It just screws directly into the arbor... I thought maybe the button had some sort of technology to keep it from locking down but... Nope. It's stuck. My 1-1/8 bit is still on the 3/8 arbor. I think I've pretty much destroyed them both at this point. Any ideas on the future? The only thing I can hammer is the arbor.
@BrandonLund2 жыл бұрын
That one sounds very tricky. Maybe try some penetrant and try hitting the arbor. Its worth a try

hey thanks, man. i just bought a 4" and needed to remove the arbor from an old 3" and it wasn't budging with a Crescent or box-end wrench so i Googled the problem. i don't know how you managed to tap on that without getting a bell sound (i have considered writing a composition using these tools as instruments) but banging the thing with a hammer did loosen it up and now it's installed in the 4" hole saw. thanks again.

@@BrandonLund thanks again. soon i'll see if i can use the 4" to cut into a piece of 2x4 without making my hands bleed or shooting a scrap of wood into my eye. you probably don't bother with these but i also have a lot of small diameter hole saws that use the small arbors and one i bought years ago is 3-sided for some reason and the hex of the set screw is neither fractional or metric! i was trying to think of some way to remove it filling the gap with aluminum foil or epoxy or something but since i don't like the shape of the shaft anyway i just figured i should replace it when i finally need a new arbor.
