Thanks for this video, I just started to remove my dreads and this was very helpful. Clearly I've been using way too small amounts of conditioner... I use a thin knitting needle (2,5 mm) instead of a needle, so I don't have to worry about cuts and also it's longer for a better grip.

OMG I think you just saved my long beautiful hair. Bless your heart. if I had not found this video I think I would have been having to have my hair shaved off today and I am a girly girl. I did not dread my hair, however had a major hair disaster. my hair is down to my hips almost and the other day I fell asleep with my wet naturally curly hair twisted up in a towel and when I woke up my hair was matted so badly that it's been about a week and I couldn't get the matted hair parts out. I'm trying to get a hold of my hair stylist today to see if I can pay her to do this to my hair. I'm praying this works.

Four years ago I picked out my 12 y.o. dreads. I used Cowboy Magic mane & tail detangler (I had a horse at the time) & a pin tail comb. I had my locs bobbed at the time & it still took me three weeks to get them all out. TEDIOUS process! lol

I have had dreads for three years, and they are ALL kinds of a mess. I have crochet, twist and rip, back comb, funky homemade extensions, and a whole lot of looong loose hair. I need to clean the loose hair up, for business reasons, but the hair is coming from so many different places. I have considered taking out random dreads and redreading them with said loose hair, but I don't want to.Is there another way? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And also, thank you for taking the time to make these wonderful videos. They have been such good support on my "dread journey"
@LazyDreads10 жыл бұрын
You could try to divide the loose hairs up and partner the hair with the closest established dreadlock and then try to encourage the loose hairs into the dreadlocks. This can be done slowly just by letting it lock up or it could be 'maintained' in using a crochet hook or dreadballing etc.

I've been free forming dreads for about 8 months now. The hairs on the sides of my head are locking up quite nicely and are easy to separate if they start sticking together. However, I've got a gnarly dread that could be about ten dreads forming on the back of my head. It's still young so not too bad, but definitely going to be tough to get out. My question is, should I brush out the whole piece and try again? Or try to pull apart and separate the piece into smaller pieces? Thanks!

What's the deal with removing crochet dreadlocks? Heard so many horror stories, and now have lots of crocheted dreads and am panicking for when the time comes to remove them, are they removable and will I lose a significantly larger amount of hair?
@LazyDreads10 жыл бұрын
Hannah Wragg There are so many variables involved with every set of dreads, I don't think it's possible to make a blanket statement saying that one type is easier/harder to remove than another, because it really varies on a case-to-case basis. With crocheted dreadlocks you could find that they're trickier to remove... but it depends on how crocheted etc - there's not really a scale for it. It would be possible to find that you lose a lot more hair from removing crocheted dreadlocks if more hairs have been damaged by crocheting over time... again, depends on how crocheted.

I have rather young dreads (almost 2 months) that were back combed and crocheted.. I'd like to restart the process naturally by simply not combing.. The problem is that my hair was at one point interlocked (these knots are still close to the root with no REAL dread under them yet)... how might I do this? (Straight caucasian hair) would I still just comb it out?

I removed my first set of dreadlocks that was14 months old. I used all of my leftover conditioners. So brands don't matter. I used a jagged metal pet comb. Every other tooth was shorter than the previous, and spaced 2mm apart. It worked like the needle, using the last tooth at the end, but I could also comb my loose hair too. It took about a week to remove them. And yes, you will loose a lot of hair. I saved the hair and later used it to make extensions, after washing it to remove the conditioner.

After successfully unlocking dreads will you have to trim quite a bit for it to healthy again?
@LazyDreads9 жыл бұрын
Dillydallydoodles Depends on how the hair was treated while it was in the dreadlocks - the hair won't necessarily be 'unhealthy'... but it's going to vary from person to person depending on what they did to them. It will however need trimming to even out the length - the lengths of the individual hairs will range quite widely so it'll need trimming to somewhat even them out and to get rid of the thinner layers at the ends.

Is coconut oil better than wax and is it good for the dreading process or not?
@LazyDreads10 жыл бұрын
Coconut oil and wax really don't serve the same purpose. Coconut oil would not be bad in the same way that wax is.. however it also would not help the process as it will soften and condition the hair. If you were some way into the process and had some formed dreadlocks that were dry... then you could apply some oil to nourish the hair. But the oil itself isn't going to help hair lock up - quite the opposite.
@PooKilla10 жыл бұрын
With that being said; could oil (either coconut or olive oil) be suitable for dreadlock removal?
@LazyDreads10 жыл бұрын
It might help... but I wouldn't use it to replace the conditioner.

Hi there, I used to crochet my dreads when they were younger and now there's one left with a bump/lump that will not come out on his own (like the others did) because it is too solid too move or mature anymore (because of me overcrocheting). Do you know any way to kinda loose it up again so it can mature naturally ? Thanks a lot :) love your vids !
@LazyDreads10 жыл бұрын
If the lump is good and solid there's not a whole lot you can do. Soaking dreadlocks and using oils will soften them... but I think it's unlikely you'd get them to loosen far enough for a solid lump to get absorbed.
