I've been seeing a lot of these "home remedies" videos on youtube, specifically targeting people of colour, and helping with hyperpigmentation. unfortunately, many of these people who are making these videos are not correctly educated on the science behind why we GET hyperpigmentation in the first place. people on the Fitzpatrick scale from 4- 6 are prone to getting hyperpigmentation from a bug bite, a scratch, any sort of trauma to the skin. so when you use ingredients such as aloe vera and potatoes, straight onto your face you are introducing an ingredient that has such a low ph and these chemicals just fly through your skin, which can create adverse reactions on your skin. Rice flour being used in a "scrub" format is too abrasive to the skin and can cause micro-abrasions on the skin (trauma), which then leads to MORE hyperpigmentation. So these "home remedies" are actually just making your skin worse! If your hyperpigmentation is something of actual concern contact your derm and get a proper check-up. do your research and believe in modern medicine. And most importantly have patience! dealing with hyperpigmentation is a marathon NOT a sprint. with time and dedication, you will see changes.

Modern medicine has its place but so do home remedies. You raise some valid points, however everything does not need to come from a lab. That's what people that have a stake in "modern medicine" want us to believe. People have been using natural remedies for centuries. Works well when done properly. The rice flour that you point out for example has been used in places like Japan for years and they are just fine. No one is saying scrub yourself raw. People are going back to natural solutions for a reason. All these modern chemicals we apply on our skin are way more harmful than the natural remedies.

@@KatErina-ii6ru liquorice root or powder is very good... I mix it with butter ghee, bicarbonate of soda, hing n ginger powder, tumeric all quarters teaspoon each... Make a paste n have... If you have high pressure go less on the liquorice powder... Very helpful
