Great video & Job...I recommend wetting the ceiling as well (using warm water & leaving it wet for 20 min.)...Tip: Not too wet cause you can damage the dry wall.

I find it easiest to cover the entire floor with plastic tarps and scrape away. Then just roll up the plastic when I'm done scraping. I also use GARDZ problem surface sealer after scraping and before mudding. It seals the drywall and all the damaged areas so the mud won't bubble down the road.

Another way to remove painted popcorn ceilings, is to go buy a 10 inch and 12 inch putty knife, a five inch putty knife, a 3 inch putty knife, a drill, a mixing drill bit attachment, sheetrock 90 as its mold resistant and doesnt shrink and not bad to sand, takes 90 minutes to dry... and a 3 gallon pail, all can be bought at home depot.. use the 3 or 5 inch knife to scrape off the bumps, mix the sheetrock a bit loose with cold water, use 10 and 12 inch to resurface the whole ceiling as flat as you can patch, 2 applications are better, go buy a hand sander and 120 grit sand paper sheets,, not the sponge.. and sand section by section, corner to corner... wear mask, cover any furniture with 2 sheets of plastic, you can use tarps on the floor taped down or tar paper, if you dont want to shake a bunch of drop sheets.. plastic off air vents, doorways with frog tape. zinzer latex 123 works well as a primer or fresh start from benjamin moore.. , Then paint the flat latex paint in behr flat ceiling paint, dont forget to tape off your roller sleves before you dip them in paint. it will save you from sanding lint off the ceiling between coats.. 19mm sleves work best with no lap lines, stay away from those 10 mm sleves. their junk. if you are pretty careful scraping off the bumps, you can get the orange peel affect too.

Great tip! I've scraped most of my house, still have 1 room left. I will try the vacuum method. I noticed you just pained and didn't do a skim coat of drywall mud over the red of the ceiling just to get it nice and smooth, were you trying to avoid the amount of surface to sand?
@becky38957 жыл бұрын
The joints had already been mudded and sanded. We mudded where needed and then painted. Came out nice and smooth so the additional coat of mud didn't seem necessary.
