Thanks for watching! There are many ways and methods to cleaning a Blackstone - this is my preferred way, but if you have any suggestions or methods that you use, let me know in the comments below!

To anyone coming here for directions, please clean the rust off of your blackstone before hand instead of just seasoning over it...

I have light rust what would you recommend for cleaning of rust.

@@pyro_1901 They have the cleaning stones that will remove the rust and then you clean it off, once scrubbed and loosened
@skismosis6 ай бұрын
@@pyro_1901 first off, anytime you plan to leave the cook top in idle mode( as in not using it) always scrape it as clean as you can get it while it is still hot and after use, then apply a very light coat of fresh cooking oil to the surface while it is still hot, then let it cool down and move it out of rain and bad weather if possible nothing can protect it from moisture as long as it stays outside even if covered up.

Rigjt!!😂 this is a very half assed way of doing it for sure

I have that rubber cover AND a hard cover. I think the rubber cover actually may cause a problem too, if you aren't careful. I had a little bit of rust, and I *believe* that it is because the grill wasn't 1,000% dry after I seasoned it, and because the rubber doesn't allow the surface to "breathe", that tiny bit of moisture gets captured between the surface and the rubber mat.
@archedmanor2 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing that! I think the hard lid for the blackstone is the way to go. I didn’t have any rust issues this season with the hard lid. 👍

I purchased that mat for my new griddle, my griddle had never been used, when I removed that mat I had rust spot on my never used griddle, that mat caused rust spots bc it sweats

Well I can't comment on your methods too much, your property looks gorgeous!

i think i would of used a Grill Stone before putting the oil on because that rust looks kind of thick and caked on there

Mine has a hard cover and I still get rust on the griddle. I’ve also got rust around the areas of the air fryers and I’ve never even used them. Kind of frustrated! I do live in Oregon but it’s under a roof cover, so it doesn’t get wet. It also has a soft cover sitting on top of it along with other objects.
@dresden68512 ай бұрын
Yeah me too. I went with the hard cover to prevent water, but it doesn't do a lick.
@yvng_nxgja_d26287 ай бұрын
That could’ve used another scraping at a minimum

Ive got the hard cover and mine still rusted. My ten year old weber is flawless. My covered blackstone looks 20 years old.

It’s a different material you gave to take all the rust off with heat and oil. Webbers are stainless not cast iron. Even a cast iron pot would rust that is left with water.
@Mixwell19835 ай бұрын
I know cast iron is a great heat retainer but seems like using SS would make things soo much easier. I dont have a BS but I do have a larger steel griddle topper for a grill that is super rusted over.. this is why I'd never buy a BS and why I completely stopped using cast iron skillets over stainless steel or even heavy duty commercial kitchen aluminum pans.

It doesn't matter what you cover it with, it's going to rust if it's left outdoors. You can't escape moisture/humidity fully.
@jelcyzyn7114 ай бұрын
I just used that exact orange cover and it didn’t work at all. Gonna try and flip the iron over between cooking’s from now on

I have a hard cover for my griddle and it doesn't make a difference. I even cover the whole thing with a soft cover and it still doesn't prevent the rust.

I keep my griddle outside and doesn't rust. Place a double layer of paper towels down, once it's cooled and put parchment paper on top or the rubber mat. The paper towels keep the condensation away.

They are made out of very cheap metal. I have one now but will be going back to a grill when it plays out.

I have 22 inch with the lid it's outside under a soft cover and it's hasn't rusted yet I just wiped. Thin layer of oil on it while it was hot let it burn off till the smoke stopped and repeated 5 time to season mine

@Arched Manor did the cover work, its 1 year later.....

I keeps my grill in garage and that fixed the rusting issue, outdoors you have too many variables that will inevitably build rust on any non stainless steel.

Where can I find the link to get that magnetic cover on Amazon?
@hoss06135 ай бұрын
do you have to do this after each use of the grill?
@Dajuggernaut744 ай бұрын
No. If you scrape it clean and put a thin layer of oil on it after each cook this won’t happen

I wouldn’t put food at top of all that leftover rust. You are just covering the problem with all that oil. The rust is underneath.
@williamclark9909 ай бұрын
You didn't even clean it
@davelafontaine1709Ай бұрын
no, the hardcover does not help. humidity gets in. youd need some sort of seal, either oil and repeat seasoning every month or two, or some sort of plastic coat that tightly fits to surface

This isn’t a very good how to video. You should try to get that rust off either with a wire wheel or brush
@skismosis7 ай бұрын
i agree with a wire wheel to take the surface back down to fresh metal and start all over with the seasoning process, that griddle top looked terrible.
