Dad's drill bits had been gathering rust and dust in the years since he passed away. Now I am back in town again I decided to try this to clean them all up. Did a great job. Many look like new. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you for the tips. The humidity is very high here in the summer months, I will try this on my bits and pliers. I saw in a shop tour video that someone use silica packets that sometimes come in packages and put them in drawers to help prevent tools from rusting during storage. Also, dont pay attention to the negative comments. It’s easier to criticize than offer positive contributions.

I like that idea with the silica packets! I might need to try that out! Thankyou for comment, I appreciate it! Apologies for the late reply!

Bad Audio effects-------- Echo.!!!!!!
@Tropicalianoaff2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Let's cancel echoing. English is my second language , and the presence of echoing dramatically reduces the usefulness of the video.

Cheers bro! I'll try this on my drill bits and if it goes well I've got a gym with 20 barbells that could ABSOLUTELY use some de-rusting (farkin rain...)

The chemical process which breaks down the rust when using vinegar creates a stinky, messy soup that one can't imagine until he's done it. You are definitely right about using gloves because that gunk will stink up your hands for days even after you wash them.

To be powerful enough to take the rust off you could imagine how bad it must be!

How should you dispose of the rust vinegar?
@reedgrele6673 Жыл бұрын
I add some salt and liquid dish soap and pour it on top of the weeds in my driveway.

I use both metal polish and discarded tooth brush to scrub my drill bits clean and also remove rusts and other debris. After that I apply a thin coat of mineral oil onto the surface of drill bits so that in the future I won't have to repeat the cleaning process again

An old toothbrush is a great idea. How have they been since then? Still rust free?

There’s a whole set of drill bits sitting out in the rocks right now outside here. I walk past them every single day and have been wondering if they can be fixed. They seem intact... I think I’m gonna grab them.

Jackpot! As long as they’re not blunt youve just saved yourself some money if you do that!

Thankyou for the video! How do you dispose the vinegar afterwards? Is it bad to throw all that rust in the sink?
@TheCoolchickens Жыл бұрын
Nah iron oxide and acetic acid isn't that bad down your drain compared to the thousands of toxic compounds you wash down from bleach, castic lye and all of the standard household cleaning products. And even them pail in comparison to what we spray on our food and nursery plants. Then we've got the drenches we put on animals. Industrial cleaning products. Hospital cleaning products. Oh and let's not forget our cars, planes, and boats which just dump oily grease water from the engine and ballast straight onto the ocean from china delivering our paper straws made from pine trees grown in Australia on fuged cleared soil we murdered boongs for 😅(the term boong is a slang word for aboriginals because that's the noise they make when they hit your bull bar). 🌈🌟the more you know🌈🌟

WD40 is a rust remover and not a grease. After the rust has been removed, you better grease your tools to protects them for a longer period.

Good stuff, but audio (aside from accent) is pretty bad, too much reverb. You should try to record in a space with much less or get some sound dampening panels or a closer microphone to your mouth.

I have used WD-40 on rusted parts but WD-40 is designed as a water displacement and it was the 40th experiment. I have a F250 Ford pickup 1964 vintage and I used the WD-40 all over the truck at hinges and other areas in general. I have a little rust on my 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis and also sprayed it with WD-40.

Did the WD-40 loosen/remove the rust on your 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis aswell? It's such a useful invention!
