Snapping is an essential tool. but it should never ever have affected the IRON playhead. The fact that not only this happens but that it cant even be disabled separately is utterly bizarre and the biggest leap of frustration for anyone moving from more expensive editing software. Snapping can already snap clips to other clips. there is no reason whatsoever for the playhead to have to be sandwiched in between.

If you zoom all the way in and have "snapping off", moving a clip still snaps the track from tick point to tick point. I want to micro-move an audio track to sync it to a slate marker on a video track. I don't have SMPTE options available with my video or audio recording devices.

I'm having a snapping issue even when the magnetic timeline is off. I'm trying to line a clip up to the beat of the song. Even zoomed way in, the clip snaps to the top lines above in the timeline. The clip either is too short of the beat or past it. How do we make these fine adjustments?
@beckmyre9 ай бұрын
You probably figured it out already but that is happening because of your video framerate. Audio does not have a framerate so you can make micro adjustments to it's placement, but video does. Most video you'll deal with is 24 frames per second. That means for each second of time, you have 24 evenly spaced points where a video clip can be placed. This sounds like a lot but when comparing to audio you won't be able to the micro edits to perfectly match the beat. To make video edits line up more perfectly with the beat, you will need to increase the framerate of your project. Probably to at least 60 frames per second. That will give you more points in time to get closer to the beat. Still won't be as exact as audio but it'll get you close. That being said, you can totally use 24fps and still edit to a beat. It won't look perfect on the timeline but as long as you put it on the closest frame to the real beat, most people aren't gonna see any difference.

@AlexCameron-Depiqd2 жыл бұрын
Hi Vivek, good question! So I'm a little behind on the website updates. The course was originally created for and in DaVinci Resolve 17 but the course for Davinci Resolve 18 is not going to look massively different so I've taken the decision to update things so this course will be The Beginners Guide to Davinci Resolve and then we'll update the course with any new sections relevant to Davinci Resolve 18 free of charge in due course. Does that help at all?

For some reason, when I want to temporarily toggle the snapping feature, as opposed to turning it on and off, the magnet icon flashes and the clip I'm moving is kind of jittery. It's very annoying and doesn't make the process work well. To be clear, I have snapping off but now I want to move a clip and have it snap, so while moving the clip, I hold down the n key and it flashes and give very strange behavior in the timeline while moving the clip.

Very helpful, thanks! Since you mentioned the keyboard shortcut (which I have mapped to another key), it’s becoming muscle memory to switch it on and off for different purposes. For weddings I have all my culled footage on a timeline so it’s off for scrubbing between that footage and back on again for placing it on the actual timeline for editing. This is probably the only thing I prefer Premiere for but I can get used to it for sure.
@MichaelBrinson Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the temporary-disable trick doesn't work with markers. (ie: If I begin dragging a marker and while I'm dragging I press "N" to disable snapping, then the snapping is disabled, but it doesn't turn back on when I stop dragging the marker).
@nagruvajse Жыл бұрын
You didnt explain about other snapping problem, when snapping is actually turned off, and we have two tracks with clips, as soon as i delete a clip from the upper track, DaVinci brings the clip from the lower track, closer, at the place of the upper clip. That is annoying af//
@yadude10111 ай бұрын
I turned the magnet snapping function off and it still snaps. Hit the magnifying glass as high as it goes (to focus in) and it still snaps, it does not move the track head or audio/video files freely - it snaps it to every frame. if i hit "n" & turn snapping function on , it snaps audio video files & track head to every other frame - am I missing something?
@devcowpb4 ай бұрын
If I understand your concern correctly - this is not possible to move video clip forward or backward by a fraction of a frame. You have for example 30 fps, so you can't place a cut in between frames (say 29,5 frame). You are limited to 30 cuts per frame.

@lipsach Жыл бұрын
I disagree, If the playead do not snap as in premiere, you almost never have to turn snapping off. For precise editing, you just move the playhead were you want your clip to be edited, and drag to it. But in resolve your playead also snaps, so you must turn on/off snaping all the time.

They still haven't fixed auto trimming when clips get inadvertently moved around. So sick of missing footage because the clips cut themselves down because something else got dragged over. A start would be to allow us to lock a clip, but we don't even have that feature. And this is coming from the paid Fusion version. This is really sad piece of software.
