Thank you for your comment Thomas. That is why we have been working towards having a bill passed to protect big cats. This bill, the Big Cat Public Safety Act (BCPSA), will allow people who already have big cats as pets at the time the law passes to keep them. However, they will have to register them, and they will be prohibited from getting additional big cats and from breeding those cats that they already have. We have been working with the big cat sanctuary community for years to improve animal care practices and to strengthen financial sustainability. We’re confident that the big cat sanctuary community, in partnership with IFAW, will be able to provide quality lifetime care to any animals surrendered or confiscated before and after passage of the BCPSA.  You can help by asking your Representatives here: g.ifaw.org/39xGhPO

I'm not sure WHY they would try to keep this a secret.... But, Java is the female who lost her temper once in the transport cage. Before this video even ended and informed us Java passed away... I noticed she sustained 2 injuries while being transported. At 14:50 as she enters the small access door, there is a large deep wound on her left, up near the spine or top of her tail. Also toward the end of video 24:30, when she walks past the camera she has a deep bleeding wound on her right temple. I would assume the injury bleeding on her back was the cause of her disc rupture. She must have woken up in the moving truck & just had a fit!! Flipping & flopping herself, like cats do. I believe, she INJURED HERSELF during this move! I just wish IF WHAT I FOUND ON THIS VIDEO IS TRUE.... they would make it known! Anyone thinking about purchasing a large cat (or any other large animal) should be made aware.... its not always neglect or intentional reasons CAGING ANIMALS CAN CAUSE THEIR DEATHS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS NOT NORMAL TO EXISTING IN THE WILD. These poor cats, never knew true freedom!

@OanhSchlesinger There is no way to transport wild animals that guarantee the animal will not be injured in the process. You cannot sedate the animals for extended periods of time without risking their death. The shame is that there is a need to transport these animals from one point to another to begin with. The selfish desire of people are the reason these animals are taken from their native land and forced to live in captivity. They were meant to be wild animal and will always remain wild. I live in North Carolina and am applaud that there is no laws against owning and breeding wild animals to sell to anyone who wants one.

I respect the harsh truth of it all as said well. These animals are wild and should be free as you and I are. No one should own any wild animal as a pet. No zoos no animal in any cage the land that they belong to is where they should be. And there is a surgery for spinal disk ruptures. As a surgery tech in animal and human surgery , working at U.C.D in Cali. It could have been tried we do it on doxies and large dogs too, yet maybe any type of after care would not be possible so yes that seems right. I feel very sad for Java. I have worked on tigers before they just should not be here. Thank you for all you life time of love and care for these beautiful animals and most important, to educate the people. Blessing to you all. Kenike

I have mixed thoughts on big cats in captivity. Certainly they belong in the wild, not in cages or even large enclosures. But the problem is the wild is disappearing at an alarming rate and so are the animals that the big cats hunt. So until we allow the wilderness to return, maybe a well funded well run facility or private reserve is a good thing for them, for now.
@OanhSchlesinger
@OanhSchlesinger 4 жыл бұрын
I agree only on the condition that at some point they are returned home preferably sooner than later. Even well run facilities have cages. Some reserves / conversations do not. Where they can be the animals they were meant to be. I oppose the idea of cages- in any form. Humans ruin everything. From poachers to city & back yard zoo keepers.

If governments stepped in and stopped captive breeding and ownership all together the money used to house and care for captive animals could go towards preserving wilderness and wild populations. Look at these tigers, bounced around multiple times because it's crazy expensive to care for them. Captive populations don't protect wild populations, they divert money that could be used to protect wild populations.
@makaveli087
@makaveli087 3 жыл бұрын
@@gargwinvinesnake6961 There is absolutely no money in *not* developing Land where these Animals call Home. An unfortunate truth. Ideally we should just start executing humans but that's less money for the government so that won't work either.
@senor2930
@senor2930 2 жыл бұрын
Do you understand the evolutionary implications of that? These animals, in wild usually have miles to themselves. They have stuff like markings etc. They even kick their family out of their areas. Now understand the torture they feel being enclosed in a few small feets. *Only solution is to preserve wilderness & to provide strict punishements to those who break it.* Putting them in enclosures like these would only devolve them. Make them like dogs.

@@senor2930 I agree about restoring the wilderness so these animals, along with those they hint, can flourish As for your comment about tigers roaming free for miles and miles - they're not sightseeing or exercising They're hunting! Unless and until the wilderness is restored, I think they're better off on PROPERLY RUN shelters. For example: some Bengal tigers are larger than Siberian tigers because poachers kill the off before they ever reachatirity! They need protection!

Whilst I'm uncomfy with big kitties in captivity, it should be noted that these have mostly been in captivity all of there lives and know nothing else, so would they survive in the wild? I understand the comments below but can't help but think that these are in the best place. With people who love and care for them.
@ifawglobal
@ifawglobal 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin, thank you for your comment. We love to see animals returned to their wild homes whenever possible! Sadly, these animals have been bred and raised in captivity, and are generally habituated to humans. Unlike in cases of animals in the wild that may become injured or otherwise need to be rehabilitated and then returned to their wild homes, these cats have never had wild homes-and they would not be equipped to survive in wild. Most successful rescue/releases are animals that were already in the wild to begin with and just need some assistance or time to heal from an injury or illness before they can return home. In rare cases, orphaned young animals may be prepared for release. But this requires a specialized care regime that includes a complete separation from humans and training the animals to identify and successfully hunt appropriate wild game. This is not something that is possible to do with adult cats, especially those who already look to humans for all of their needs. If released these animals would not survive in the wild and would likely become a threat to local communities. We are advocating to get a bill passed to protect captive big cats in the US. To learn more and to help, please check out: g.ifaw.org/39xGhPO

@@ifawglobal stop feeding the idea - we are their only hope. Your organization is a huge part of the problem. Fix it! The goal should be to release not to keep. You may even be doing something good by increasing their numbers. Others are doing it with success. Don't believe me, look it up for yourself. The internet has a wealth of information. Cases upon cases of successful releases. A lady on this video says, some things can be taught but mostly they rely on instinct. Instinct is not a learned trait. It is a bred trait. Bred traits are: hunting, killing, eating, mating, pack behavior. Perfecting the trait is a life long process. Survival of the fittest. Look at this, kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWPbgK2BhJmobs0

All these ppl have big cats for profit and once they’re not profiting they can’t keep feeding them..... BUT if they are an endangered species still, why are you guys so against the owners breeding them? Or is it cause they’re in captivity? Even if they are cross bred wouldn’t you want more of an endangered species vs. all of them dying in captivity?

People are so stupid to think that if they raise a tiger it wouldn't ever hurt them; did you ever have a regular little house cat? You could be stroking him and then without warning the kitty would just have enough of it and scratch or bite you. What if that kitty were a hundred pounds with huge teeth? People obviously don't think things through. A wild animal belongs in the wild, period.
@equarg
@equarg 9 жыл бұрын
What I like about BCR (Big Cat Rescue) is that they have great facilities, well cared for cats, strict no contact policy, no breeding, and allow the public to visit. The cats have dens to retreat to if they want to be alone, but the different people coming thru provides stimulation for the cats. By being closed off and not allowing the availability of public funding, you cut out signifiant funds that can be used to support the cats. Especially with high meat prices and vet costs.

I have a better idea. Educate people from kids to adults on why its wrong to own animals that should never be caged. Just show films of animals in their wild habitat and how care-free and happy they look. In contrast show a film of Ivan the gorilla and his miserable life. If that isn't convincing I don't know what will be?

@voornaam3191
@voornaam3191 4 жыл бұрын
You miss the point. Owning a tiger is not the problem. The government is not the problem. Owning a tiger and not taking good care for the tiger is the problem. Tigers should live in the wild, but okay, if you have a whole lot of space, including the swimming water tigers love, the right food and your vet is a tiger specialist, you can meet all legal obligations. Do not think that is cheap or easy, however. The problem is, when things go wrong. Stupid people can not have a tiger. You've got to know what a tiger is. And if you do not know who Anna Breytenbach is, the animal communicator, forget about a tiger. Even if you know all facts about big cats, if you do not know there's a deep bond betwen species, chances are, you'll make mistakes. Even zoo owners sometimes need the help of an animal communicator. So, check out Anna Breytenbach, in South Africa, when you have seen her relationship with animals, you will understand there is a way to be safe with animals. That is very very special, but when you are prepared to learn to be like her, you could safely have tigers. You can think of all the things that can go wrong, but how can the government step in? Are those big cat owners checked every month or so? You should, when there's an animal law, there must be checking animal welfare, not just wait until there is a complaint, you would be far too late then. No, register them, do checks and let the owners pay for that.

To truly wish that we could just leave well enough alone and enjoy the beauty of the wild in the wild. If a big cat or elephant needed help then yes, we should do whatever possible to help heal and back to where we found it or where family is at that time. We are able to heal a whale, catch up to it’s pod at the right time of year and they know their language and will gladly rush to the pod given the chance so it’s possible to allow elephants and others in families to catch up and tigers being solitary can b put into an awesome habitat to find his own range but to keep them as pets or shows or zoos is so unfair to these beautiful creatures. I saw in kindergarten many years ago a beluga whale in our zoo in Vancouver and my heart was broken then, I saw polar bears and penguins too and it all broke my heart at 5 yrs old and it’s not healed yet.

These magnificent animals should not be placed in a situation where they have to be shuffled from home to home living in enclosures the rest of their lives. The government should be financially responsible for all aspects of their care as they allow stupid and greedy, soulless people to own them as pets and to make money by breeding and selling the cubs. Only then will enough people care enough to change current laws if their tax dollars are at stake. It's outrageous the abuse and neglect of exotic animals is still happening today with no thought given to what should happen to big cats once they are discarded by their owners or confiscated. Thankfully there are many good people who genuinely love and care for animals but overall human beings are seriously flawed and the world would be a better place with less people and more animals in their natural habitat living free and wild.

The best thing would be to legislate against keeping wild animals. People feel bad, create rescues and sanctuaries but don't have the money or tenacity to run them long term. Rescuing animals is not a feel good thing, it's a life time commitment.

The only way I have seen to truly tame a tiger is well, Michael Jamison who turned out to be the biggest KZbin in all of South Africa with his Zoo house but he has two tigers both beautiful. The larger one was the first and this one slept in the bed with him. The second tiger was either a little too wild or he simply couldn’t keep two tigers in the house with like 14 dogs and 20 cats. So he built them a very nice and spacious enclosure. I have seen a white Siberian tiger that weighs 600lbs that has been hand fed his entire life. He is incredibly gentle with the humans. When he plays with the girl and has her arm in his mouth he makes sure to move extra slowly not to hurt her. There’s no roughhousing with him he seems to understand his strength. I’ve also seen an 800lb Siberian tiger. This was the largest cat I’ve ever seen, easily twice the size of a lion and it was not obese or fat at all it was all muscle and 800lbs I mean you have to see it to understand. Anyway, the guy raised it from a cub and he always hand fed. He said you have to do every single time. If you give them the food and let them eat it themselves they may become food aggressive. But this skinny little dude is sitting there with a giant bowl of meat hand feeding this 800lb killing machine that has no clue it’s a killing machine. Tigers were always my favorite animal since I was a little kid. I was born in 86 in august so I’m a tiger and Leo lol. I’m very grateful to everyone who takes care of these animals. With the world being what it is, I don’t want them going extinct. The Javan and Bali tigers are gone and the Sumatran is hanging on by a thread. Honestly if I could choose a job I think I would do what you guys do. I still have not been able to see a tiger because when I went to both the Bronx and Delaware zoos sure they had them but they were hiding in shade and sleeping. I saw one sleeping tiger from far away that was it. I want to see these guys up close, my only fear is that I’m a nutcase and might run into an enclosure to hug one of them. And yes that roar, especially inside the truck is intense. They use it just before lunging at their prey to stun it for a second. It’s so loud and ferocious that the MGM lions road is actually a recorded tigers roar.

Wonderful organization I am sure. But I had to laugh at the instructions of... these are not pets we don’t touch them and we don’t pet them. Next scene lady petting lion and another worker letting a tiger smell her bloody hand! Lol.

We need more educational programs to inform people that it is not a good idea to try and make a wild, exotic animal a pet. More laws need to be passed.

to IFAW: Isn't there a way to provide the tigers with a much larger enclosure? I know. Lot's of money is needed to do that. I know this organization is doing the best they can with limited donations. I've made donations to this non profit. Though, what's the quality of life if the tigers cannot roam a larger territory or preserve? Some tigers become obese from sedentary lifestyle or metabolic or disease issues of their own? I look forward to the day exotic breeding and ownership of wildlife is outlawed.

Good work guys but tigers love water and they don’t have a large pond to swim in which is a shame.❤

Thank you! If we can see it then why can't others? This is a big game, a way to feed their family, by keeping these magnificent species within their care and cages. Let the animals go! And get a job!

The only way it will stop is if laws are put into place in EVERY single state banning the ownership of ANY wild exotic animal. With high penalties. I've seen better places then this one where the animals have acres and acres to run free with protection

Why didn’t you guys just put some raw cubes of there meat into that little holding gage so that it can entice the tiger. This works for Kevin Richardson the lion Whisperer and also you would save the animal the stress and danger of having to anesthetize the animal.

thegonz9 Because they are soooooooo darn cute. And my GOD,are they sooooooooooo loving towards one another. And if you give them tires,and other human play toys,they do the funniest antics. Their feet are round,and they are just beautiful. But as I love animals, I think all are beautiful. Well most are.

Heartbreaking, just all around heartbreaking! And if it wasn't bad enough just a few months later the poor female Tiger Java gets euthanized! The so called experts need to come up with treatments, surgeries, ECT to help these beautiful creatures, like yesterday! I hate it when people decide to euthanize animals, any animals! Who the hell do people think they are??!! Absolutely disgusting!!! SMH!!!!!

I realize that ifaw does ALOT of good for animals (and I donate monthly to them), but caging these poor creatures just because humans think they won't survive on their own is ridiculous. Human's always think they know what's best for animals, yet animals are VERY INTELLIGENT and are capable of using their NATURAL INSTINCTS to survive. Unless you are going to put them into a proper sanctuary, this is just as bad as them living in a zoo or circus since they have to live in tiny cages. I wish humans would stop worrying so much about keeping animals in cages and instead do something proactive like going vegan and becoming a minimalist, that would not only make a huge positive impact on the earth but also helps the animals.

Why donate to an organization that does not practice what you believe is right? Your donation will not encourage them to do the right thing. Put your money to better use and donate to an organization that adapts your ideals.

it only needs one tiny change to the law to fix this problem, that is if you get one you are responsible for its upkeep for life, if it goes to a sanctuary you pay for its upkeep, or if they convince someone to take it off their hands they have to get the buyer to sign a legal doc stating they will take over the care of the animal for life, and where you display this information make sure you have close by in large numbers the average cost of each type of animal,eg you can't feed and house a lion for under 10k per year so if you got a spare 150k plus don't get a large cat, shit these new domestic cats they are breeding are trouble enough and there 5kg not 250kg
