I wish I could say this movement would do something. The problem is 30000000 million pounds is practically nothing in comparison to how much is in the ocean. As was said in the Mark Rober video we need to block off the sources that are feeding the trash into the ocean.

This whole thing is bs tbh. Is garbage in the sea a problem? Sure, but the real issue that is wiping out aquatic life by hundreds of millions every year is overfishing. The fishing industry is the most brutally violent and destructive practice human beings partake in and the crazy part is they’ve managed to pollute and destroy the entire ecosystems at such insane levels but some how convinced every day people that it’s our fault and we need to drink out of paper straws to solve the problem.

The Bible says in John 3:16-36 that whoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ shall not perish but have everlasting life, the Bible also says in Romans 10:9 that those who declare with their mouth that Jesus Christ is their God, Lord, and Savior they shall be saved. Revelation 1:8 says that Jesus is the alpha and the omega. Luke and revelation is the ending times, and Jesus is returning back. So are you going to submit your life to him or no? Narrow is the path that leads to the gates of heaven, but only few people find it. The gates that is the path to destruction is where many people find it! Jesus loves you SO MUCH! I believe that the internet has caused us to underestimate the people around us and because of that, nobody wants to be that first voice who starts the change. Mr beast was willing to ask for $30m and because of that, and his large following, he very well may get that money and make a huge change (and if he gets less he still puts it towards the job proposed). He isn't the only person/company capable of doing this on such a large scale and I would love to see it continued. Even when it comes to resolving small community issues, I feel like sometimes humans aren't open enough about the problems to come to a solution.

An influencer is one that has influence and easily affects their audience (primarily into action). As long as that is satisfied, you are a "true" influencer. Whether you think their cause is good, bad, neutral or a waste of time doesn't make an influencer any less "true" than any other. This comment is pedantic and is only critical of the misuse of the word "true" in your comment. This is meant purely as constructive. Have a great day.

Every week, I go to the library and check out books about climate change and what I can do, except I am a kid, so I can’t do much. But I do donate a lot of my allowance to climate charities! Also, something that I want to address is this quote from a book: “Older generations keep on saying that we ought to give the younger generations hope. But we don’t want you to do that, we want you to panic and to actually DO something!” Just wanted to share that quote that I wholeheartedly agree with.

With team seas, 30 million pounds of plastic was removed, which sounds amazing, until you learn 90 million pounds of plastic are dumped into the ocean each day. This means not even a day’s worth of plastic was removed from the ocean, and he failed to address the root cause (hold corporations accountable and lobby governments to make them fine said corporations)

However, true change requires government policies, because otherwise people will go for the easiest options. Which is usually plastic

Answers to #2: 1. Replace your polyester and nylon clothing, sheets and blankets with cotton and other natural fibers. Most of the microfiber in the oceans is from synthetic fibers coming loose in our washing machines. 2. Boycott Coke, Pepsi, and Nestle and stop buying single use items. 3. Use cloth bags at the grocery and other stores. 4. Grow some of your own food to reduce packaging. Blackberries, grapes, fall squash, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and pole green beans can be grown on a fence or trellis in a small space. Fig trees are small and prolific.

Government bodies need to restrict and even ban the sale of single-use plastics. If there’s a demand, companies will continue to get away with producing and profiting from sales of single use plastics. The invention of the refillable water bottle isn’t exactly a new concept and has rendered purchasing bottled water completely redundant, yet it continues to be a problem. People should start with that.
@emmasilver2332
@emmasilver2332 2 жыл бұрын
@@Anonymousjoe64 the problem with that idea is that a lot of times tourists can't drink local water without getting sick. Bottled water is literally the only option in those situations. What governments need to do is put an extra tax on products packaged with plastics, and utilize the revenue to provide convenient recycling options for all of its citizens. Put a recycling bin right next to every trash can in public spaces. And put more trash cans places to make it more convenient for people to throw things away. Bolt those cans to the ground so the wind can't blow them over and spread the trash everywhere. Hire people to help empty those trash cans. Put more public drinking fountains / water bottle refillers in public spaces to encourage people to reuse their water bottles. Charge a hefty fine for every time a person is caught littering, proportional to the person's household income. Utilizing these methods will accomplish a multitude of things: 1: It will discourage people from buying products packaged with plastics. 2: It will discourage companies from using plastic as a means of packaging. 3: It will provide less excuses for people to litter. 4: It will provide less excuses for people to not recycle. 5: It will discourage people from littering so they can avoid being fined. 6: It will provide more jobs for people, jobs which require no prior experience and are not hindered by most disabilities. 7: It will encourage people to conveniently refill their water bottles. This won't solve the problem completely, but if governments will band together on this, it will go a long way.

Solution! Do your part by not drinking out of plastic bottles, use reusable bottles or glass. Glass is so much better to recycle because you just need to remelt it and re mold it. I personally dont drink out of plastoc bottles. That even means for 1 year (so far) i havent drank any gatorade, bottled water, or any drink that comes in a plastic bottle. Also if ypu can grow your own food. Oh also dont use plastic bags, use reusable ones. Thanks for your effort. But remember your own effort doesnt do much unless you challenge others to do it too, such as large coorporations.

And if you do buy plastic bottles drinks, PLEASE reuse them, there are many different things you can use them for and it's better than throwing them out

@@theno9075 that’s the thing tho. recycling isn’t what we think. only a VERY small margin of plastic we recycle is actually recycled. major plastic companies made the concept of recycling to calm the general public about the negative effects plastic has on earth. i believe it’s roughly 70% (maybe more or less but it’s a crazy amount) of recycled plastic just ends up in trash dumps. the best option is to just use reusable items.

The guy who took a flamethrower and burnt down a box fort is now removing 30 million pounds of trash out of the ocean. What a legend.

As amazing as the project is, I still think Mark Rober & Mr Beast should make it clear that even 30 Million pounds of trash is nothing compared to the actual scale. A survey shows that 17 Billion Pounds of trash end up in the oceans every year (500 times more than what they will remove). So besides encouraging people to donate to team seas, they should also encourage them not to stop there.

Yeah, its still good to do, but even better would be to stop pretending plastic we put in recycle bins doesn't end up buried or in the ocean. We put over 30 million pounds of plastic in the ocean every day, so where is this plastic they take out going to end up?

he also made aware the 1% of rivers that are the worst offenders, making it aware if we cut it off at the source, we can have a tremendous positive impact. problem is most of those rivers are in very remote areas with little infrastructure

If people grasped the reality of all of it, it might be too scary to actually contribute because it may seem out of reach. By dropping a number that, even though it's hardly the size of what is really out there, it still seems real and that it might be achievable, it gives people the hope that this campaign needs to actually get people to donate.

Commenting with others who are applauding this project but also reminding that we need to reduce our use of single-use plastics or else we are contributing to new trash immediately.
