Removing a chimney box

In this video I got a call from a client who’s roof had a leak. The problem was believed to be where the chimney box met the roof which I confirmed was the case. Luckily this house never did have a fire place installed so that box was pretty well useless so we figured just get rid of it and eliminate any future problems. Enjoy!

They did have tar paper underneath before but we had to rip it up to replace the plywood, and why we didn’t put any back on it would have been impossible to get it tied in properly without tearing off way more shingles than we had to

I was told that house was an RTM built in the late 70s and that particular model had that build out so a fireplace could be flush mounted to the wall. The fireplace itself was left up to the buyer to install once the house was moved to its destination, and these people just never ended up putting one in

Amazing again Austin!! Superb work. But how come you had to put that little accent on the wall? Couldn't you just have cut the siding longer and tie into the corner post?

Maybe I didn’t explain it but we used the siding that came off the face of the chimney and just put it back on the wall and it was cut to the length of the corner posts so in order to make up for that length we had to put those white pieces in to mimic corner posts if that makes sense lol
