Scott, I am glad you had a good experience with UpFix. I had them repair an electric range cooktop controller motherboard. I found they are only limited to replacing the relays and capacitors. That is what they call a repair service, and they sent me back the controller board and it still did not work. I sent it back a second time, to give them a second shot at it, and when they returned it back to me again, they told me they were unable to repair the problem and told me the diagnosed problem was that the EEPROM chip had lost its programming, and they do not have the ability to reprogram it. I thought they should have known that outcome the first time they had the board and I was dissappointed that I lost out on two Shipping charges and ended up where I started, with a dead board. To this day, I am not certain they weren't the ones who fried the eeprom chip. Ebay came through, and I found another board which worked and fixed my problem. Many older electronics die, and the "easy" and usual fix is to replace all the relays and capacitors. That UpFix route did not work out for me.
@Guillotines_For_Globalists2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. So you're saying they didn't test their "fix" the first time? That's not right. Although how does a firm like this "test" electronics like automotive engine computers, ABS modules, and radios without having the exact car to put them back into? How do they really know what they are "repairing" has been done correctly?
@nealnaz2 жыл бұрын
@@Guillotines_For_Globalists They can test voltages to see if the circuits are repaired, and can test if correct voltage is flowing through the board. Usually High voltage will be what comes into the item, 110 or 220v, and low voltages range from 12v, 5v and 3.3v, depending what part they are working on, and I was told my the voltages were reading correctly, upon the second return. I don't see how. After the part was returned the first time, it still had no low voltage. My cooktop has a fan that comes on only when a built in heat sensor detects and hits a set temp, usually when the enclosed cabinet gets warm. The second time it was returned, the item allowed a voltage leak which caused the fan to spin at an extremely slow rpm, which should not have taken place. If the board's eeprom had not lost it's programming, their repair service would likely have worked for me...but just know with electronics, sometimes the type of repair services out there will not always be able to repair a part, depending what components have failed. The issue I had, is their communication was not adequate and when I sent the board back in, it took them 3 days to find it, after they told me that it was lost...which was concerning. I had taken pics of both sides of my controller board, before sending it to them, each time. A manager, Anthony, told me the board had severe damage. I asked him to send me a picture of the damage, because the board I sent in did NOT have any apparent damage which he was claiming mine had, when I sent it in. Turns out the board he sent me the pic of, which was supposed to be my board, was an entirely different controller board - not even the same model as mine. I sent him my pics, to prove to him he was not accurate. His reply a few days later was that the tech had sent him a pic of a different board by accident, that they have found my board, and that they could not repair it and they eventually returned it back to me. Like I said in the prior post, I ended up finding another working board off of ebay. In no way am I knocking the service UpFix offers, as illustrated, Scott had a great outcome with getting his part repaired, and he seems to use them with no issues. I happen to be the one example where there was not a favorable outcome.
@Guillotines_For_Globalists2 жыл бұрын
@@nealnaz Makes sense, sounds complicated due to how complex these electronics are. I would be wary sending in electronics due to loss in transit OR at the facility. I had a hell of a time sending in an iRobot Roomba last year for warranty repair. I was told turnaround time would be 7-10 days and then it morphed into 2 months at the snap of the finger. I think they lied to me just to get me to send it in. But 2 months later I had a newer model refurbished iRobot, and I have no idea if that was done by mistake or what, but I didn't complain any further, lol. Also strangely enough were 2 loose batteries flopping around in the box. The iRobot already had a battery in it, and then an identical "spare" battery was in the box in addition to another Roomba battery that was for an entirely different model. I have no idea what the hell was happening there.

You can buy just the screen for about $100, but the black is a little different than the rest of the radio. It’s about $160 for the proper blue-black, and the screen replacement takes 1-2 hours depending on skill. If you’re not confident in your skills a repair service may be a good idea.

I find the ingenuity and designs of all the tabs and slots and Velcro® and just popping and slapping the parts into the position in which a different engineer-slash-designer created - is amazing. Kinda like a giant 3-dimensional jigsaw puzzle married a Rubik's Cube and their offspring became a Cadillac. Is every new car just slap-pop-jam it together? Having to tear half the dash apart also prevents thieves from breaking open cars and stripping all the expensive bits from the interior in 5-10 minutes while the car is on the driveway, like what happens with BMWs and Audis where it's much easier to take em apart (at least here in Europe there's actual gangs that do that)

Even though you kinda stumbled through this. This was by far an easier way then taking the entire center console apart piece by piece like everyone else shows.. If you able to do this much yourself though it’s faster and easier to just get a better screen from quescreen for $150 and install it on the unit.. it’s just the crappy gel digitizer they use that fails cause of heat and drying out. No need to send out the entire unit or replace it.. it’s only the digitizer that is the issue..

Great Job Sir. This video will probably get 60 million views over the next 3 years..... this is going to be a REAL problem, as the Platinum warranties expire.... I had to send my instrument cluster out, in my 2004 Escalade.... Turns out, you can drive the car just fine without it. Even the cruise works! Of course, for any law enforcement members seeing this, I DID NOT do that.... No way would I drive a truck with no instruments for 10 days... come on now.... Ahhh, the XTS... Always sort of wanted one. Remember when they assured us this was NOT the replacement for the Fleetwood/DeVille size cars?? And the big one was coming?? With a V8??? Ahhh, good times!!!! Ahhh yes. Now all the hotels, and casinos, and livery services, are all buying LS 460's.... With proper V8's in them. What's more American than a Lexus??? Not much, apparently..... Town Car? Fleetwood? DTS? Uhhh, no, no, and no.... Yeah, our friends at GM have a REAL high opinion of that system.... The cost of doing that at a dealership, is way more than the Platinum warranty costs...... So.... Yeah... Anyways, great job on this one.
