Just some people astound me... the creating of a project and filming and editing it so it is coherent and entertaining is a huge undertaking and requires alot of time... makers get no where near enough money from youtube because by the very nature of the videos they take an awful lot more effort than some wank spangle playing mine craft and filming it and churning them out... I dont Patreon yet but I am coming round to the idea but how dare people get pissy if Keith rewards the people who actually put money into the channel...

When it comes to repurposing wood, you are the king to me! I must have missed the video of you using those oak shelves in previous projects. They are beautiful and you used them for just the right project. This is why I dumpster dive at construction sites, especially for reno's or additions. You can find some beautiful woods especially of it is an old home. Of course, you should always secure permission to do so before trespassing onto the privately owned property. My brother did something similar in his own house with oak he recovered from a job site. He made a shallow cabinet between studs in his bathroom for shampoo, shaving lotion, soap and the like. He had enough oak leftover that he made a raised panel door for it too. He matched the existing stained or sealed oak and he was able to cover the entire door to match the shelving and you cannot tell the difference. I was the one who suggested to make that cabinet because I was lacking storage in my bathroom when I bought my house some 20 yrs earlier and made the same type of recessed cabinet. It's a simple project, but people are afraid to cut into sheet rock. There's plenty of tutorials online on how take one too. I'm really loving your new shop. It's so organized for you and everything has its own station. Good day!

You provide loads of free woodworking content on the channel that I really enjoy, supported a local woodworking charity when you could have done loads of "give aways" to boost subscriber numbers when you got the new hicoki (can't spell it sorry) tools. Yes I'd love to see more of your renovations as I'm an essential craftsman/restoration couple/build show/Matthias Wanndel/etc... fan, and would love to see what you do, but I'm sure as sh1t not going to complain that a stand up guy chooses to have some rewards for his loyal patrions, regardless of the fact that it's bad for your channel (which in itself would be completely understandable). Great job! We had a useless window between the bathroom and the kitchen. Bathroom was in the 60s the kitchen... transformed into a bathroom and the new kitchen is actually part of the house extension. The new shelf is actually almost twice yours in depth as there are two walls (Belgian walls are quite thick so 2 of them side by side are even thicker). So we did a double shelf, integrating an opaque glass in between the bathroom and kitchen part so as not to lose any light but not be able to see the one who's in the shower ;) It's nice and useful adding some storage in both rooms. Mine is made out of pine. At first I wanted everything wood made of oak; but we ended up using natural pine and I find it stunning in that old house. For once, I find something I've done in my own house, I'm super happy!

Though your oscillating tool did the job most use a reciprocating saw to cut nails and screws when removing window and door frames. Also I would have actually used the oscillating tool to cut away the window sill. There is also a trick using two sticks for taking more accurate inside measurements. You put the end of one against one side and the end of the other against the other. Then make a mark either on one of the sticks where the end of the other lands or across both as if marking for a biscuit or domino jointer. You can then pull the two sticks out and measure end to end. Always take at least a top, bottom, and middle measurement when dealing with window and door openings like in this video. All in all you did a fine job. No one was hurt or dead in the end. None of my suggestions were from you doing anything exactly wrong just sharing how I or most others would have approached it. You may find your methods to have been easier perhaps even better. Just thought I'd offer a couple ideas.
@RagnBoneBrown4 жыл бұрын

I know you've probably set out a plan for the order of doing things but one piece of advice is do the kitchen and living room last. I know from personal experience that once those are done, the house becomes 'liveable' - that's the danger point where work seems to slow down because it's tolerable. Of course you might have more self control, but I though it worth mentioning.
@AlMoxtar4 жыл бұрын
I find personally that the worry and stressful anticipation is much much worse than roughing it up during the works. Especially if one has to generate an income and do the work themselves simultaneously, it makes sense to start with the big push (kitchen), get the worry over, then do the rest at a more sporadic pace.

I love shellac. Beautiful, timeless classic finish and lovely to work with even for the beginner. How old is the house and its doors? I guess it's a bit of a shame to paint them, but I don't think they'd look half bad in a warm, creamy white or a warm grey, depending on the colours of the walls. Another solution could of course be to choose more neutral colours for the walls and leave that mahogany exposed, though if the mahogany-imitating pine doors are found in the same room they might cheapen the feel of the real doors.
@RagnBoneBrown4 жыл бұрын
Shellac is great stuff yeah. The house is 1930s. The bathroom door you see in this video is solid hard wood so I'm going to recycle the wood and just it for a future project - can't bear to paint it!

Thanks! The stuff I've used is the barrettine shellac sanding sealer, but it's great as a finish. It's blonde shellac so doesn't add much colour. Available at tool station..
