We are more of the school of "I want it dead now!" Because seed beds can persist for years, spraying may take too much patience. If a person has access to excavation equipment and the weed problem is not too far spread out, using an excavator to bury the problem is our preferred solution. Then you can plan a very productive habitat over the top of the buried weeds.

Sorry we missed the comment! Yes that is a good suggestion for someone with access to the equipment!

@Whitetail Properties. Recently subscribed. You have the best content on KZbin! I’m ready to attack my invasives. It’s mid May and I don’t want to wait till the fall so I’m putting on my backpack sprayer. I’ve got Crossbow and glyphosate. Probably going with Crossbow since it has triclopyr in it. I never hear Pathway mentioned. We bought some about 10 years ago ata Black Walnut seminar. Wonder if it’s still any good? Do you agree with the Crossbow as first choice?

Thank you, we're glad you find the content helpful! What invasives are you spraying? We have aways used glyphosate in a foliar application in the spring/fall. You could also mow/cut and spray the stumps as well. Glyphosate and triclopyr should both be effective for most invasives.

I have a lot of big multi-flora rose. The bushes are easily 8ft plus, would it be better to cut stems to ground level and add roundup straight to open stems? it's not going to be fun, but I figure if I cut them back in winter so I will have heavy clothes on and then spray them in early spring when I see them starting to grow.

We would recommend going ahead and foliar spraying them now.

Triclopyr will kill both multiflora rose and bush honeysuckle. Foliar applications either right when they green up in the spring (they will be the first), or in the fall when most other natives are already losing leaves and entering dormancy. The invasive species will hold their foliage much later than most native species. We know how big of a pain they can be, good luck!
