Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

Before you comment about sedatives: everyone else already said it and had same thing explained to them. It's preferable to seek attention immediately but they were in the field hours away from the nearest vet. An uncomfortable dog will paw and rub at the quills, only driving them deeper in. That can make the condition far worse. It was smarter to relieve the dog of its quills first before it had a chance to drive them in deep and break the shafts. It hurts but it was smart given the situation.
@ekofriendly39774 жыл бұрын
The thing is with a struggling dog, she's moving a lot and they have a high chance doing more damage yanking them out while she's wriggling. To stop the dog from pawing, someone could of Sat with her and comforted her on the trip. Instead they had 3 people there to film, restrain, and pull quills for KZbin views instead of taking her to the vet then instead of later. It's baffling to see what people will do to try and save a quick buck or to appeal for internet fame
@itssayra4 жыл бұрын
EkoFriendly Maybe if it was a more worse situation sure you could do that but since it was not as severe or as many it is so much better to just pull them all out quickly before making the situation worse
@alexangell9034 жыл бұрын
This is true, my parents aren’t very good dog owners or parents so when we or the animal needs medical attention they didn’t do it or took the cheapest route, even if it is their fault.One day my parents through chicken for my dogs and they fought over it, the bigger dog hit the side of his eye and it got him pretty good, it was kinda coming out, he continued to paw at it and my parents didn’t hold him or even take him to the vet immediately because they hoped to not have to pay, (we weren’t far from the vet like they were in this video) he kept paring at it until his eye was all the way out and it was quite a grotesque sight for me to see as a kid, and scary... he avoided all of us and just pawed at it.I think this dog would’ve harmed himself and felt more pain if he was just left like that for hours, thankfully you can pull those out.
@ekofriendly39774 жыл бұрын
@@itssayra so what you're saying is because it doesn't seem as severe as other cases, it's better to cause the dog more pain for the sake of cheapness? We sedate the dog for a reason. Those quills are barbed and are easily breakable. The dogs will paw at them if left, true,but as i said, if she is with a familiar face on the ride to the vet and discouraged the dog wont paw at the quills and will have far less trauma and pain.
@itssayra4 жыл бұрын
Mr Free1 • 18 years and I meant if the poor pup had to wait in a car for a very long time to get to a vet, longer than 2 hours since they seemed to be somewhat far from civilization. Maybe it was some sort of hiking/camping trip??? I wouldn’t drive all the way back to a city or something to spend lots of money on gas and the vet to take some quills out. The dog probably felt much better after that but it’s not as serious as a broken leg or something to end a trip. I love my dogs don’t get me wrong, but if it was all over him and all in his mouth and it looked really bad then obv i would end the trip but idk i wouldn’t end a camping trip over a few quills that could be taken out real quick. I understand you might say “what if that was you” well honestly i rather pull them all out and not end a trip over it. I also understand it’s a dog but it’s just not as serious as something that could be fatal to the dog. OBVIOUSLY that COULD get bad but they were in an easy place to take out and simply let the dog rest. That’s all.

thats why they get paid dumbasss, if you dont have paintence 100% you shouldnt obviously be picking them out .. if you dont realize those needles are pretty deep through the skin . which means you need 100% accuracy and gentleness to get them out.. thats one of the reasons why there are so many fuked up things happen in the hospital with paitents. nurses and doctors fuk up becasue they dont have the paintance and are only focusing and caring on gettting the prosedure done instead of making trying to do that and not casue anymore harm to the animal. becasue obvioulsy you should be keeping in mind that its excruitatly painful and harmful to the body for those things to be inside. never mind if someone fuked up while taking them out. even the sligest bit.. i hate people. there are so many promblems all because of people. and the good to prombllem and bad things people do ratio is nothing . its 1 to 5000 becasue people suk and are going to hell.... read this before you REPLY... www.gotquestions.org/more-people-heaven-hell.html The question of whether there are more people in heaven or hell is answered by Jesus Himself in one succinct passage: “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few” (Matthew 7:13-14).But you can make your own interpretation of the specific quotes from the Bible. YOU COULD SAY JUST CAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS MOST PEOPLE ARE GOING TO HELL DOESNT MEAN THEY MESS UP ON PROCEDURES... WELL SMARTASSS CASUE YOU THINK YOUR SO SMART ACTUALLY IT DOES MEAN THERE WILL BE FUK UPS AND PROMPLEMS BECAUSE SINCE PEOPLE ARE SHITT IT MEANS THEY WONT CARE ABOUT DOING A PRODECURE LIKE I PREVIOUSLY SAID. WHICH MAKES.... NOT CARING IS YESSSSSS A SIN AND BAD LIKE THE BIBLE SAYS,,.... YOU DONT HAVE TO BE A FUKIN PRIEST OR SCIESTIST TO FIGURE IT OUT.....

Had a Siberian Husky in the UP of Michigan who once came home with quills in his jaw just like this. No local vets and my Dad wouldn't have paid for it anyway. A Husky is not a Lab, which is the only dogs I have owned in the last 30 years, in Florida. They will trust you more than almost any other breed, which this dog showed. The Husky was very patient but it can look very much like a wolf when it's upset. Still, he knew I loved him and got the dozen quills out just like this Lab. Now, skunks were a whole different problem! He became an outside dog for as long as he smelled! He was a great dog, and could have supplied enough hair in the spring to make a mattress!

I did this by looking him in the eyes and petting him, using the pliers,, getting closer and closer to the quills after, when I got the chance I pulled a few out at once. Now I have to take him to the vet just to make sure I got them and they also have to remove the ones in his mouth.. He wouldn't let me get too close.

It appears there are lots of professional critics in the comment section, yes I'm sure it would have been easier on the dog to have pain killer at a vet but how far away from the vet were they all you critics. Oh you don't know that answer do you. The sad part about people having negative comments to videos is that there isn't a complete list of information to make sound decisions on. Maybe the closest vet was a two hour drive and pulling the quills right then and there was the most humane thing to do even if it looked painful. Maybe a quick removal was better than a long painful drive to the vet. Just food for thought

The first time coffee got into one , i said ok he'll learn , then 2nd time , 3d time , 4th time he finally caught on . ( not the smartest of dogs) . Had to rope him down each time , He wouldnt be near as cooperative.. He also came home with a slash from an anteater, ive cut 7 bot fly larvas out of his hide also. Theres no vet out here.

Use wire cutters to clip the end of the quill off first . This releases the barb and will make it much easier and less painful to remove the quill .

You’re suppose to clip off the tip of the quills first to release tension, then twist and pull so the end will not pull the skins with it

My dogs had a lot of runs with porcupines, generally they do it only once and learn to leave them alone (as with frogs), the german shepperds understood whe where helping them and allowed me to remove the quills with pliers, even if was painful, specially the ones inside the mouth, lather I had rottwillers, they where smart also and allowed the removal but on one case I missed a quill in the top of the mouth of a female, two months later it surfaced in the top of the nose, I was able to remove easily because the hook was outside, the last occurrence happened also with rottwillers but they where very young, less than a year old (but still massive), and didn't understood what was happening so whe had to call the vet to make them sleepy while we removed the quills, they are fine now. And they never managed to get the porcupine, he aways won, tough little guy.

If it ever happens again in the future take scissors and cut the tops the quills off it releases air pressure inside and allows them to get pulled easier at least that’s what the vet said to me
@StandingStoneKennels3 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t really help much. Just adds one extra step... thanks for watching though!
@archywiseman3 жыл бұрын
That doesn't help at all. It's an old wives tale. Quills are not pressurized and do not deflate. In addition, cutting the Quills can cause them to break up, making it more likely that you will leave a piece in the dog. They did the right thing by taking them out whole.
@Robert_rocks3 жыл бұрын
@@archywiseman than why does ever zoology report on them say the air filled quills help them float and make them easy swimmers, just look it up do more research before you talk scat
@archywiseman3 жыл бұрын
@@Robert_rocks floating is not the same as pressurized. They don't shrink or deflate or get smaller in any way when you cut them. There are dozens of high magnification photos of quills on the internet. Google it and take a look at the barbs. That's what you are dealing with.
@archywiseman3 жыл бұрын
