I saw him :) I saw the bird! How fantastic to have all that wood out, no more bad dreams. You still have an ancient home that you have literally saved from collapse, I am so proud of you both.. you should be proud too. Get a nice piece of oak and make a new pretty window sill, it will be so beautiful and better wood than was there before so looking out the window will always be special too. The house hasn't lost anything - it has gained much! It is loved, and it is filled with love.

Yay!!! I'm glad you did! One day I will catch the little fella on film properly! I still have nightmares...I've had the floor caving in on me...the stones of the walls starting to crumble. One dream was Ben putting a crow bar in and the walls just started lifting! 😬🫣🤣 Oh we really are proud of what we've done! I think we're still amazed at what we have done! 😄 🤣 An oak window sill sounds lovely and will certainly look into that because I've read that woodworm don't really like oak either! Love reading your comments, they always make us smile! ❤️

@@thecornerhouseproject Before you go to bed focus on what is finished and how it will look in the end - don't think about the work to get it there, just imagine it finished. Find a favourite thing, put it in associated room and decorate around that item pulling from it for colours and textures. Like the fireplace tiles, how to decorate to compliment them, paint or wallpaper or both? Wood Panels? carpets and drapes. cozy cushions and throws, hanging lights? floor lights? wall lights? Make a design board on a wall in the house and put notes of ideas for rooms - we'll get some good dreams coming 🍀 A shot of Irish Whiskey or a glass of wine works too 🍀

Just when I thought I was all caught up after binge watching over the weekend, you released a new video! What a work ethic you both have and really have been living rough the last few months. There was one point I actually let out a money pit laugh because I felt your pain in not being able to save so much, and was hoping you would catch break. You both are just making the best of what you have and I am impressed! I was so glad to see you finally got a workshop space after having moved it many times. Everyday your making this more and more of a home and it will only get better! Hot water in the house- that is a milestone for sure. I look forward to your continuing to dry out and make this house your own and even better! Thanks for sharing your journey!

Ben loves Tom Hanks and we're surprised we haven't watched that one...we must watch it though because it looks like it's hilarious after seeing the money pit laugh and the scene with the bath! We identified with that sooo much!! The workshop finally being sorted was a "Finally!" moment! Really pleased with it! Thank you for watching and commenting! 😊

Keep talking and whistling to the robin, if he tends to be going to the same places, then try and leave bits of food for him, once the house is done spend time trying to get him to come to your hand, they do in the end. I spent a couple of years with my robin and in the end he came and fed out of my hand. I spent hours in the garden with my hand open standing still, neighbours thought I was nuts. 😂I've moved now so I can't even show you. I believe they are either loved ones or he might be a person from that property, hence why he is going into the house, keeping his eye on the improvements you are doing.
@thecornerhouseproject
@thecornerhouseproject 5 ай бұрын
We did wonder if that was the case with the Robin as people have said about them being loved ones that have passed on. We have always held the thought that it could be the lady owner of this house, because he used to fly in and seem to know where he was going and how to get back out easily too. That’s amazing that you got him to eat out of your hand, I bet you were reluctant to move after that?! They’re great little birds aren’t they? So nosy and friendly. There’s always one about whenever we’re doing anything outside, just keeping an eye out.

Save your sawdust! You can use it to amend clay soil, or mix it in a pail with a tiny bit of white glue and water (Just enough to dampen it) tamp it together in sheets or logs, and use it for firestarters. I was excited to see a washer and dryer running. Woo-hoo!
@thecornerhouseproject

We like the firestarter recipe! Thanks for that. There's a nice pile of sawdust in the outbuilding and we will collect from now on. I used to save it before to mix with pva for making a wood filler of sorts. Ended up with a bag of it that I forgot where I put and so never used it! Haha! Ooh yes we like the washer and dryer running too! Makes life feel normal...ish! 🤣

Maybe your Robin... funny you're robins are so much smaller than a USA Robins I know this I have seen them UK robin LIVE .But , Maybe the robin is a visitor from the Houses past. Maybe he came back as a robin ,And checks what you have done to the place !.When we lived in Scotland , right before we immigrated back to the USA.We had a one legged pigeon land on our window ledge .. Cute . I fed it . couple of weeks later , here comes the mrs. Mr. and Mrs Peg leg and Patty. They were Very territorial over the ledge.We were sad that we had to leave them. but the neighbors said they would feed them.Strangely when my hubby came to the usa . he lost his foot due to diabetics.. his prosthetic foot name is Peg .

it’s funny because a couple of people we speak to over here have said about Robins being someone who has passed on. We like to think it’s the mum of the family who lived here for a long long time just keeping an eye on what we are doing. Aww with the pigeons! you do get quite attached to them don’t you? We certainly have with this little Robin. Love that with your hubbys prosthetic foot name! that’s great! 😀

A butterfly bush or two would be ideal since you have them already 😊 It isn't possible to save the ceiling and use them for wood flooring is it ? Can't help but thing how nice a wood flooring would be 😊
@thecornerhouseproject
@thecornerhouseproject 11 ай бұрын
Ooh yes that would be lovely. We've seen soo many butterflies this year, it's quite amazing just how many! The celling boards are very thin, so won't be able to use them as flooring but we will be using them when we build animal shelters when we get to a point where we can have animals. I would love wood flooring and we will put in wood floorboards at some point. Could be a little while before we get to that though. 🤣

Brilliant all round, the house will feel so much cleaner and hopefully the joists can be cut down for the outhouses so you know you are retaining the history of the building.Good news on the sparkie booked in again another major milestone ready for the celebratory Xmas ceilidh. Having the use of 4 rooms is just amazing 🤩.

Dont be too disheartened about the window sill. It probably only dates back to the 1970's/80’s when the sash windows were replaced with those casement ones. A very common upgrade at the time as they were seen as more weathertight than sash ones.

Yes we do too and that’s what we will replace them with eventually. We have kept all of them or at least the ones that aren’t rotten so that we can re-use them elsewhere. I think we probably would have been but we decided against it in the end for a few reasons. We knew we would take a lot longer than the 13months timescale allocated….because we’re a bit slow lol. You also need to have the money up front to do the work first to then claim it back and we don’t have the money to do it all at once..ooh and we wouldn’t have been able to start any work or move into the house until the application had been approved and with having just the tent to live in we didn’t want to chance not being able to start work in the house for however long it took.

@thecornerhouseproject I think the timescale of 13 months really is way too short. The aim of the scheme was to encourage people to renovate to bring more housing stock into use but I think the government missed an opportunity there.
