Ross, the first thing that came to my mind while watching you dance with that tire was...going to a dr. and him saying that we need more exercise. We are your Hoosier neighbors up north and also have a plot of sadness we live on. That lets us relate to all of your vids. When you put the tire back on Mighty Whitey, please invite your dr. to help. lol

I feel your pain when struggling with the big tractor tires... it's not fun and no easy task. I too have three antique tractors that need this done. Two tractors will need the fluid removed and rim repairs and the third likely just new tubes. Be interesting to see the seal replaced. Good vid.

Good wood blocks are always undervalued. Every farm sale l go to l always walk the sheds/barns as l know unless the person you're talking to directly isn't the farmer, they won't give them a second thought. Usually offer a buck or two and they think l'm doing them a favour by taking an old oil and grease soaked chunk of useless wood off their hands.

The wheel really looks n good shape. F your looking for square wooden blocks go to your closest County Maintenance shop or DOT shop they could have some laying around. I worked for the SDDOT for 40 years and when Guard Rail gets upgraded or some get deleted they end up with a huge amount of wooden blocks that go between the guard rail and posts which we gave away to many guys.
@rosstheoliverman
@rosstheoliverman 7 ай бұрын
I never thought of that! I was thinking that their guard rail was all steel I beam, even the part in the ground.

I need to ask everyone a question. Why is it on most tractor videos everyone leaves the rim on the tractor to change tires. My dad, uncle , and myself gave changed bunches of rear tires but we just took the rims off and layed them flat. Big slide breaker to bust the bead and just peel it off. From the north when we run calcium chloride. Never had an issue but always keep a check on stems.
@rosstheoliverman
@rosstheoliverman 7 ай бұрын
I do it because usually it’s easier to rotate it and hold the thing solid with it still on the tractor. On the ground do you have to do a lot of pulling up especially on the last bead. But to each his own.

Ross, my grand dad, when I was a kid, would go out in the pasture, find a tree that "didn't need to be there", cut it down, chunk it, then cut his own blocks out of it. Only need 2 sides that are flat, he'd do that with the chain saw. Just an old timers trick. I hope you drop the rim off, makes things easier to get to the seal. I thought you said that's what you were going to do in the last video on the 4-180. Just how prone were the articulating 4wds to having these seals go bad? I knew a guy who had the old Case 4wd, always had an issue with the planetaries, didn't matter if he used the crab steer or not, in turn those planetaries destroyed the seals. Great video as always, cheers :)

You keep calling yourself a fat guy, but your jeans are falling down to the point where it hobbles your stance. You have the same problem I had: A round face. Everyone called me fat, even when I had lost enough weight to be under the recommended height/weight ratio of the time. So I gave up and really did get fat. I'm losing it now, and this time it's coming out of my face as well (I'm old now: 66) and everyone is now noticing I've lost weight. So, get a new pair of smaller-sized jeans (if you need to, get gusseted jeans like the Firehose jeans from Duluth Trading Company. Expensive, but will wear much longer than FleetFarm jeans). 2 cut a couple more notches in your belt so things don't slip. 3. Stop putting yourself down about your size. The lifting and wrenching you do is going to give you larger lungs and muscles in your chest, so again you'll look huge compared to a computer programmer, but for what you do, it's a healthy size.
