Really interesting. My 1965 S engine is going to have to come out fairly soon. I know it’s mundane stuff but there are always pointers you can learn from.

Dont worry about repeating taking out and working on engines. Its like heart surgery, I could watch it all day long and still be thrilled when that engine bursts into life again at the end.

Probably the first time I've enjoyed watching an engine taken out. The attention to detail was exquisite as usual as was the quality of the video. What was also interesting was the minimalist approach to what had to be removed, indicating the detailed knowledge of the subject matter. This will be an interesting project as it combines diagnostics and repair on a real job. Text book as usual with in depth explanations. Don't stop now.

Great vid and particularly useful for those that didn't grow up in an era where every other weekend was spent in the garage rebuilding something on a early BMC car. When whipping the engine out, particularly on your own, I found that a thin sheet of steel slid down between rad and inner wing helped remove the risk of damaging the fins of the rad as it came up past the cowling. Mine was mad from an old piece of scrap from work, bent to fit around the sides of the rad and hung off the rad cap. Based on the number of scratched it got, I'm sure it saved a few fins and maybe a core. Bit of old carpet draped over the bomet slam panel too. I even got to the point of making some tailored hoods to go over the wings out of som old vinyl shhet I had lying around. Actually prefered the remote change box over the rod change.

Great video! We actually sell PTFE lined braided hose rather rubber. This removes all fuel permiation problems. Only issue is it can't be used with jubilee clips so requires some additional fitting.
@HREIRL

Thanks for the Heads up Conner. I love the PTFE pipe work I run it in all my race car builds the best way to go, unfortunately a-lot of the people out there are running the much cheeper poor quality rubber stuff. They run one line all the way from the tank through the cockpit and into the engine bay. Generally there is an awful smell of fuel in the car

I would love to see your engine lifting bracket. I have only seen the curved ones that fit to the rocker cover studs. I was always dubious about lifting the the engine and twisting on them. I work more on Morris Minors which are a straight lift and have their own special bracket, but my brother has a Clubman. Interested to know the safest way to lift the Mini engine.

I've lifted a few mini engines out now and I've only used the "standard" adjustable bracket that came with my hoist. They really help adjust the load so I'd reccomend either an adjustable or a flat out custom job as HRE uses. I'll be pulling a moggie 1098 soon so any tips appreciated haha. I understand it's easier to do engine and box as one?

@HREIRL
@HREIRL 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, I take it you talking about the battery cut off. If so basically its a simple battery isolator switch which has a pull cable attached to it. when you pull the handle on the outside it just pulls the isolator into the off position.

@@HREIRL Hello Paul. Thanks for the reply, I was inquiring about the exposed gear shift lever assembly and cost more as a future adventure.. truthfully i am getting ahead of myself, I was rewatching the episode of you fabricating it, and thought WOW, thats what I need..... a bespoke one of a kind HRE "piece of kit".... I just received a box of goodies from Minispares, to get my Mini's stance right, and a new elect. distributor to start right, and a RC40 centre exhaust to sound the right. The fact is with any luck, you will more then likely build a whole bunch of savoury pieces of must have automotive genius!!!!So with that said I will continue to watch, enjoy, and maybe one day, be in the position to pull the trigger on one or more of HRE bespoke creations!!!! Thanks again for the reply. Curtis.
