The animation itself is actually well done. It's just too bad that it's wasted on awful grossout jokes and horrible pacing.

I'm late to the party here, but I'm mostly creeped out by "Ren Seeks Help" because, after reading a LOT about John K, I truly believe the episode is autobiographical. The man is clearly a dangerous sociopath and it's not hard at all to imagine him having fond memories of torturing small animals.

In fairness to Mr Enter, he does acknowledge in his review that he's heard Ren Seeks Help is the best because it has the strongest plot. But it being the "best" was why he flat out refused to review the rest of the series. He hated what he saw, and wasn't going to subject himself to any more of it.

"I may be cruel, but I am more human than you will ever be." I know this line was written to directly guilt trip Robyn, but it's hard not to see the twisted irony that, at the end of the day, regardless of how cruel the situation was in Kristafuluci's eyes was, Robyn truly was more human than he could ever hope to be

I’m afraid of John K. now after you talked about the unreleased Succubus episode.

That coraline bit was funnier then the whole adult series

I smirked at the joke where Ren's mom takes the gun away and gives him a chainsaw instead. That's the closest this show got to a laugh out of me.

I find it really fucking hilarious how John K. has forgotten how to do Ren's voice, because it's literally just a Peter Lorre impression.

I was and still am a big Ren & Stimpy fan---the original, not this crap. It proves that someone needs to tell him NO. And that Succubus/Robyn stuff made me nauseous. I have completely lost all respect for John K. And I feel completely sorry for Robyn.

John doesn't know anything about story structure or timing. He thinks as long as the drawings are funny, nothing else matters. That's why Adult Party Cartoon moved at the pace of running molasses. The original cartoon worked because he worked with Bob Camp. However, to be fair, Bob's era of Ren and Stimpy lacked the density of character that was present during the show's peak.

If I were to describe the plot/events of Ren Seeks Help to anyone who hasn’t seen it, it would sound like a lost episode creepypasta. Out of context (the keywords being "out of context"), it has the tropes (long drawn out scenes of characters depressed/crying, blood, gore, children’s cartoon characters in R-rated horror scenarios, characters dying, one small bit of live action footage as a substitute for “hyper realistic” imagery, disturbing ending and reinterpretations of characters, etc.).

I feel like there was a very easy fix to Onward and Upward to turn it into an actual episode with jokes. Ren and Stimpy are going to a fancy, expensive restaurant where they end up eating all the same disgusting stuff, but they're both unaware of how the food is prepared, and it's being presented to them as fine dining. That way you get all the gross-out humor, but there's a point to it and can even serve as a jab at how upscale cuisine is sometimes just normal crap dressed up to trick people into thinking they're paying for higher quality.

Never in my life I’ve seen something so mentally disgusting as this. Me and my brother loved original ren and stimpy and will always do, but can never, EVER forgive John K. not just because he killed one of most beloved cartoon duo of all time, but for all the horrific treatment Robin Bird and Katey Rice. That succubus part mentally killed me and my brother. The subject of child molestation always disturbed me, but the story of Robin Byrd and Katey Rice is emotionally disturbing. I feel so sorry Robin and Katey.

APC, and the now Cans without Labels just pretty much reveals that John wasn't a genius, but a man who just got lucky. It was the likes of Vanessa Coffey, Bob Camp, and the many others that provided inspiration, and development for the series and characters. Johns art has deteriorated badly as well over the years.

It took me until the Stimpy's Pregnant part of this video to realize something big. With Adult Party Cartoon, John catered to the fans of the original series and what they wanted. "Give us an episode that's all gross jokes!" "Give us an episode that's R&S having sex and being a gay couple!" "Give us a backstory before R&S met!" With APC, John gave the fans of Ren & Stimpy exactly what they asked for - and THIS is proof why that's never a good idea. John should've made the show HE wanted to make (like you mention, "Man's Best Friend" level). Instead this revival was mainly the fans calling the shots. EDIT: Obviously this isn't the ONLY reason why APC turned out the way it did. But it's definitely a major one.
