One small thing that I really like is in the intro. His grunting starts one the 1, 2, 3, and 4 counts, but then flips to the "and" count right before the vocals start. It's a cool aspect where his vocal is playing a drum part.

Great reaction! Ren does all of his own production, so there's no "they" there. I know he did have Illest of Our Time mixed by someone else, but the music is almost entirely Ren. I always love the artists that do all their own production (like me!) and play all of their own instruments (me too!) and can rap and sing (okay, not me, lol!) Ren's a genius.

Kujobeats is listed for productions and the mixing was done by frederik moller but I know he did most of it of course. I always have a second ear in my mixes, I can do the rap if I have enough liquid courage lol

@@dicodec He's got a whole album on reserve while he's in Canada for treatment (I think the whole album is called Sick Boi?) and this is the first of two tracks he released off it. Up to this point, he's done all of his own production, and he mentioned that he did Illest Of Our Time except for the mix, so I just assumed he did all the production for Sick Boi (this track). I stand corrected--I missed the kujobeats credit and don't know anything about them. Ren still probably did most of the work on the tracks. You know the fine line between "writing" and "production," in that they're two sides of the coin. (See fifth member of the Beatles, producer George Martin, LOL). But hey, thanks for the correction--I bet there are other produced tracks on the new album as well. Cheers and thanks!

@@StephenSink there’s actually 5 singles from Sick Boi that’s been released so far, 6 if you include “Hi Ren”. The Hunger, Genesis, What You Want, Sick Boi, and Illest of our time. I’m going off of that because they all have similar cover art on Spotify with a different animal head/mask for each song. He said there’s 13 tracks on Sick Boi and we’re likely going to get a video for each one by the time the album drops this summer.

I am an artist also, visual and in words. Never learned how to create music, but majored in art and education. I have worked in many different mediums, but have settled into pen & ink the last 20 years. I lost my husband of 33+ years, to cancer, while the world was freaking out over a virus. I was unable to draw or write or create in any fashion until I heard Ren. Somehow, his music has opened my creating mind after having been in a very dark place. Ren's vocal ability and his writing are what grab me most, although he's undeniably gifted in many other areas of music as well. I see others have suggested Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me with Chinchilla for more great vocals, and I couldn't agree more. Your compassion for your friend brought tears to my eyes. So often as patients of undiagnosed illness, we get so sucked up in no-one being able to help because our health system is broken that we forget to have empathy for those around us who have to watch us suffer and know they are powerless to help. I think one of the things I especially love about what Ren has created, particularly since the explosion of Hi Ren, is seeing reactors - in particular the men- allowing themselves to show their sensitivity, to openly discuss things that are highly personal for them of their own experiences and vulnerabilities etc that normally only get released with, at best, a handful of close family /friends - it's like Ren has opened a Portal to a Safe space to be authentic, vulnerable and to feel less shame or embarrassment. With the level of suicide being greater in men and men's conditioned habit of not talking or showing their emotions this is a Great thing. By you, and other reactors doing it too, you are strengthening the message that it's acceptable and normal to both feel emotions and to show /express them

Unfortunately this is his part of his life. Misdiagnosed for 11 yrs. Caused many problems with his health. Now is in Canada for Lyme disease. And undo what can be undone. He is so real. Rap sings rocks. Multi instruments. Video Grapher. But so real. Honest. Talented beyond years. He is touching people in ways that cause reactions. Imagine how hard his mental health is effective and is producing this very important music. He is one of a kind. Independent as well. Humble and very special person. ❤Ren Prayers for his good health. Hey man I know this reaction was a year ago, I discover a lot of reactors from new songs and go back through their catalogs. I wanted to say it’s normal and expected to react emotionally to REN’s music, especially if you have any personal experience with this stuff. Like you point out in your post production, it’s designed to illicit a response but it’s also written to reach the people it needs to reach. I don’t think reactors get enough props for the risks you take to be emotionally vulnerable-you never know when you’re going to get drive by emotions from an artist. But I always subscribe to the ones to are willing to wear their hearts on their sleeve because otherwise what are they here for, you know? I hope this journey with REN has brought a lot of catharsis. I know it has for many of us ❤

I love the way you isolate aspects to highlight, it really gives us a new perspective. Sorry to hear that you lost a friend. If you listen to Chalk Outlines (live) you'll need to be in the right head space for it as it's about medication, and both How to Be Me (live) and Freckled Angels were written about the friend Ren lost to his own darkness, too. Just as a heads up. They are all amazing songs and really powerful, but it wouldn't be fair to send you into them blind. I think you'd like them, but they might be tough. If you want to hear more of Ren's reggae tone, his busking session with his band The Big Push where they mashup I Shot The Sherriff/Rd to Zion/Hip Hop is awesome. Really high energy and fun but you get to see a completely different side of him. And of course we all want you to trip the Trilogy of tales - The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full) - which is Jenny/Screech/Violet (has to be in that order). They're brilliant storytelling but it would be interesting to hear more about the engineering side as they were recorded live in one take for each chapter, but on location so the sound changes as he roams around.

If you do Chalk Outlines (live) as many have suggested, well, first be braced for another emotional ride. But I'd also be really interested on your opinion as a sound person (perhaps on a second pass or separate video) on how they used space and movement and mics to shape the sound.
