Great reaction, you guys! I have to say that I get annoyed when reactors get so much negativity from viewers. Most people don’t even know how to react to Hi Ren the first time they see it because it’s so different. So what? You guys clearly love music and immersing yourself in the experience and it’s fun to share that experience with you specifically because it’s new and different. Who wants to watch the same reaction over and over? You should be able to say how you feel without all the finger-wagging. Looking forward to seeing more.

Nice reaction guys. The harmonies and the chemistry between Ren and Chinchilla really take this to the next level. Don't get put off diving down the Ren rabbit hole by the naysayers. Hi Ren was a masterpiece that threw a lot of us the first time we saw it. I went from a WTF moment when he switched initially from sublime guitar to the first vocals to tears rolling down my cheeks when he sang "I won't retire I'll stand in your fire inspire the meek to be strong" - He is an amazing artist with the ability to write such deep lyrics that it is nigh on impossible to pick up all the meaning and depth in one listen.

Ignore the haters. This is your channel and you run it the way you see fit. I watched your "Hi Ren" reaction and saw nothing wrong with it; it was honest and genuine. It is indeed sad that you feel that you have to justify and explain your reaction to complete strangers who are just consumers who create nothing. Ren certainly would not have shown you any disrespect. I just subscribed to your channel. God bless and have a blessed Easter. He is risen.

Nice job! Also, after what you said at the beginning, I also checked out your “Hi Ren” reaction. I didn’t really see anything in that video but praise, so I don’t know why you’d get any comments like the ones you mentioned. And even if it was all praise, it would still be okay if it wasn’t because we all have different tastes. I’ve been doing YT for a while and have dealt with some negative feedback. I enjoy constructive criticism and respond accordingly, but I also believe there are some out there simply trying to get a response from the creator. I’ve learned to ignore the latter. It just comes with the territory. I wouldn’t sweat it if I were you. Anyways, good work!

Here is a short excerp of my write-up of Ren, since you asked about his current medical situation. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition.

"Illest of our time" by Ren is about how he hasn't yet uncovered a standardized treatment and detection for lyme disease and he is far from rich so he has to be the illest of our time to find the answers that he never seems to find the video is a look into his brain an internal conflict like psyching himself up for that task.

Wow...saw your Hi Ren reaction when I was watching every single one that came out....and saw nothing to cause concern (not that my judgment of someone else's reaction to art means anything). I don't know if this is true for all artists but certain 'fans' take it a little too personal when there's perceived sleights. My first listen to Hi Ren I was confused, didn't like the singing at the beginning because I don't like operacic siinging but I do play guitar and was interested in staying because the intro was so good. It took me many more listens to catch everything but the message was there and it hit home...good job you two, keep doing what you're doing and don't worry about catering to those who might have a negative thing to say because you can't please everyone. If you like Ren and Chinchilla together this is a must watch, it was written in memory of one of Ren's friends who died by his own hand. How to Be Me (live) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXW1aKarpZh3qbc

Never apologize for an honest reaction. I'd much rather someone disagree honestly than fake it for likes. I've found with Ren I've have to listen a few times to get all the lyrics. His accent (and often speed) when he's performing can make it difficult but generally I can get the most important parts. He also has an amazing video called Crutch (with Bibi) who was his girlfriend at the time. He wrote it about 6 years ago after several hospital visits and a breakdown (this was before the Lyme's Diagnosis and treatment. He said it was about his fear that his illness would make him unable to have a relationship last - that it would just be too much.

As i understand the health situation, he was misdiagnosed for close to ten years. He went through a bunch of different medicines, mostly being told it was a mental disorder (bipolar, psychosis) and suffered from issues related to sideaffects from these treatments until finally being diagnosed with lyme disease, unfortunately after so many years there has been a lot of organ damage and consequences that they are trying treat and hopefully even correct. Stem cell therapy has been tried and helped him get back on his feet, but has not been a cure all by any means

Here is some additional information on Ren's story, in case you didn't already know. Gathered from an old newspaper interview and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales in 1990 or ‘91 (depending on which source you cite), he grew up in Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which lead him to experience psychosis. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Check out and subscribe to his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. I didnt see the other video, but im sorry to hear that you received hate from people for your reaction. Too often as big fans of someone we become overprotective. Ren would be the last person to want that for anyone i believe. Its good to hear that you were able to listen to the song and change your mindset by the end of it, i think that was Ren's specific intention with the song. To help people to understand the struggles of people that are suffering and to then be more compassionate and give each other grace understanding that we have no clue what struggles another person may be dealing with. And understanding that, lets try to make strangers as well as friends days better and not worse with flippant and careless vitriol

This song is mainly about antidepressants and how they rob you of your spirit and personality and make you feel like you’re walking around a hollow shell of yourself, a zombie - hence the floating chalk outline like the outline drawn around a dead body. Radio drama, huh...I wonder if Ren has a dramatic trilogy, where there is a full version on KZbin🤔. Ok, I suck at Secrets. Check out Tale of Jenny and Screech. What I interpret this song is the effects and side effects of psychotropic medication. When Chinchilla comes in her first words are "Sertraline (Zoloft) and a sip of Serotonin." I was on that for quite a while, diagnosed Borderline Personality Disorder medically retired from the military, and it made me a zombie of course combined with pain meds as well, broken back, you become a floating chalk outline or just dead on your feet. It's such a beautiful day... take it just in case. Well it might not be a beautiful day 10 min from now even though nothing has changed outside of yourself. Powerful song great reaction.

Listen, this was your first ever Ren song and from watching a few of your reactions you guys seem happy and smiley and that's how you entered the "Hi Ren" song, once you understood what it was about that changed. That is the whole fucking purpose, a journey from a moment in time to another moment in time and that is what you did. I could not ask for anything more, you listened to Ren and immediately wanted more, that is what its all about!! ❤❤❤❤ Once again, Reneverse, we do not attack people, they entitled to their views and opinions and rather try and guide them so the will be able to strap in and be prepared for the next song once they leanr not to expect anything because it will be wrong, just enjoy it!!! ❤❤❤❤

I like your reaction, it's made with respect, that is all that matter at the end. For Ren, like for some other, the meaning get so deep that you can't always get it at the first time, Ren always give the lyric on the first comment of his video, you can look at it. On the same theme, Sick boi should be your next one, then dive in the Jenny and screech (full) you'll get how good of a story teller he is. Enjoye !

I liked this reaction, some fans are just... fanatical. But mainly, there are some things you can't understand (or just wouldn't catch) without actually experiencing it. Like the overarching concept of the chalk outline itself. Chinchilla mentions Sertraline (Zoloft), one major side effect of that SSRI and some others is a feeling of detatchment... I've had side effects from various meds, but I've never experienced this one. My mom though, after we lost my brother, was on Zoloft and she said that it hit a point where she walked out of her door in the pouring rain (in pajamas) just so she could feel SOMETHING. I can imagine that would leave a person feeling like a shell of their former self, where the depression just MIGHT be more desirable.

It took me half the song to get into Hi Ren before I started to dig it and when the message hit harder at the end it floored me. Most of my favorite art I hated or just didn't get at first...I always just put it to the side to revisit. Challenging stuff never hits you easy...sometimes it takes a long time for something to click. Love Ren's music but I definitely see a unhealthy level of attachment with his fan base....even he mentions it shortly in an interview. The internet is fucking weird.

I saw your "Hi Ren" reaction. I think the "Insensitive" and "mocking" comments came from your reaction to a number of his lyrics. I didn't think you were mocking him. I thought you weren't sure what to make of him, and that sometimes makes people chuckle a little - being surprised by someone is kind of rare nowadays, so when it happens, all kinds of reactions can happen. Sometimes all you can do is laugh at how absurdly good someone is, because you can't process someone being SO unique in what they do, they catch you off guard. Obviously, EVEN with some of the lyrics that can come off funny - because his dark persona IS mocking and insulting him - the song is clearly about a man struggling with himself and his own mental turmoil. I guess I can understand why people, who may identify with this turmoil, could be offended if it seems like someone appears comically amused by any part of this struggle. I didn't think you intended it that way. But people sensitive to Ren's situation would obviously be sensitive to any reaction that isn't empathetic or sympathetic all the way through. You guys are fine, no worries. The fact that he struck you the way he did is evident in the fact that you started looking for more of his stuff. You'll never satisfy everyone. But your reaction TO those comments, and your willingness to address them here, proves you never intended how it was perceived. As for this video, Ren's voice shines through, but Chinchilla's voice was heartbreaking, especially the soft and high notes. Awesome song.

Check out _"Fingers"_ by Chinchilla (Make sure it's the the Live TV version) ... for some Chinchilla on her own being just 110% vocally incredible. Think Adele, think Kate-Bush craziness. Think... revenge! Or _"How to be me"_ by Ren and Chinchilla, for a really powerful duet and a sweet and fitting tribute to his friend that killed himself at only 19, on a bridge (recorded live, a on bridge, at night - it's a raw and deeply personal piece) ... it pairs well with Chalk Outlines. And, even though you don't like rap ... just trust me and try _"Losing it"_ (fun, epic) or _"What you want"_ (happy, playful retro) by Ren for two completely different views, and see him really have creative fun with genres. "Losing it" is particularly good ; ) Or, since Jordan likes stories, _"The tale of Jenny and Screech (Full Version)"_ is an epic, bard-like, trilogy of tragedy that will leave you absolutely stunned... it's left almost all reacters speechless. (his guitar playing and story-telling ability in this is truly incredible) For angry social commentary... try _"Sick Boi"_ or _"Money Game (both parts 1 and 2)"_ ... both of those are pretty amazing. the thing is... ... just when you think you know Ren, you realise that you *really* don't know Ren. He just doesn't fit in any box. He's just out there doing his own thing. ; )

I am guessing that Ren would be disappointed to hear that some of his fans made ugly comments for an honest reaction. His messages are usually about lifting others. Also, Hi Ren is a such a journey that it can be difficult to digest until you get to the end. Trying to film yourself and come up with coherent words to something that packs such a punch would be difficult. Just an FYI on Lyme Disease: it’s an illness you get from a tick bite and when diagnosed early most people can be treated with antibiotics without further effects. The problem is that many people go undiagnosed and over time the damage done to the body can be terrible. Hopefully Ren’s current treatment plan will allow him to have a more normal life again. Enjoy your continued journey with Ren’s art. Most of his fans are supportive and the ones who are negative probably just need a hug. 🤗

I don't get the negative comments. But as you say YT and internet can be harsh and very quick to sling utter bs at you. But what I saw was a very good reaction to "Hi Ren". It's a journey when you go into that piece of art blindly. Chinchilla and Ren together are so good. It's like they feed of eachother's musical energy ... so to speak. I think you are absolutely right Amanda. Because this sounds like it is about, back when he hadn't gotten his Lyme diagnosis yet, and he was bed bound 23 hours a day, and was on the wrong medication for a mental illness he did not have. And speaking from experience the wrong psychotropic drugs can really make you feel like a shell of yourself.

Love both of your reactions. One, is more technical, and second the sensitive side... both really balances everything out perfectly.
