Having been obsessively trawling the internet for a couple of weeks now, looking for reactions to this piece of artwork, I can say that I have found about 30 reactors I'd never heard of. This in addition to the many I already watch who have posted their reactions to this. Out of those dozens, only about 3 were a disappointment, and they were predominantly vocal coaches who couldn't stop focusing on how he sang in order to listen to WHAT he sang. You got it from the very beginning, and I truly enjoyed watching this reaction video. You are, in fact, one of the first to make it a point to praise his acting skills so highly, though a few others have made off-hand comments about it. No one yet has made much comment about the set itself, which seems to lend itself so perfectly to the feel of this piece. Or about how he didn't "resolve" the final note of the guitar accompaniment, though it gets my attention every time. I also read 90% of the comments other people leave on the reaction videos, so I've learned a huge amount of background info on Ren's problems and the misdiagnosis that has damaged him so much. One of his sung lines, "I've stood in the fire that cremated my brain" is a powerful reference to the actual physical damage he's taken from the years of wrong medical treatment. Thank you for your contribution to the understanding of this piece of brilliance.

Thanks for a thoughtful and compassionate review. I have watched hundreds of 1st reactions to Ren and the amazing thing is that in approx. 50% of these, the reactor(s) start to talk about their experiences or those of relatives/friends. These reactors cross all age groups, (human) races, national boundaries and genders. If you look at the floor, you'll see there are also two shadows.... one darker than the other. Incredible attention to detail. Did you also notice in his singing at the very end, your ear is looking for a final note that doesn't come? Like it's not over... I think that's on purpose, the eternal dance... the vocal leaves you waiting for that last "ooooh" there. I vote you go down the Ren rabbit hole....

@Beckaj5446 Жыл бұрын
I’ve seen way too many reactions to this, over 50 and some have noticed the lights during the song but he is the only reactor that noticed the lights were still flickering at the end. A lot of reactors think he’s won the battle, but that is not how this all works, he has integrated his “shadow consciousness.” (Carl Jung, psychiatrist, philosopher). It’s just like you said, the song doesn’t finalize, it’s an eternal dance. They have to work together, but the hopeful Ren has to have the strength to not let the shadow overtake him while also not fighting against it and remembering to relax.

“Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”), which are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. Ren recently released his single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. As mentioned above, his latest release, “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” is another masterful work.

Enjoyed your reaction and your thoughts about REN’s music. He has been a voice of hope and inspiration for many people who are struggling with health or mental issues. He delves into topics that many people don’t address and paints such a visual picture through his lyrics which has made his music far reaching to people of all ages. I’m happy that as an independent artist he is able to create his music his own way without being forced into one lane so that he can create using multiple genres. He also wants reactors to monetize his music because he believes a rising tide lifts all ships.

I've been watching every HI REN reaction video that I can find, looking for someone that got the same message I did from the ending vocal part of the song. You're the first person of all of the reactions I've seen that pointed out the lights flashing during that apparently triumphant dance/vocal segment at the end. The song stops, and then he explains it for us. But it seems most people miss the message of those flashing lights and him repeating the same vocal performance. Even when he tells us what it means. The pendulum is swinging. We see him defeat the voice with the power of hope BUT the flashing lights indicate that it is only for a brief time. His happiness in that moment is just a part of the eternal dance. If the song had continued, the next verse would have started "Hi there Ren! It's been a little while, did you miss me?" That's is what he is trying to tell us. Not that he defeated the voice, but that he will never "defeat" the voice. He can, however, learn to co-exist with it - to relax - to soften. Let the voice rage. Let it abuse him. He is stronger than that voice and can be "broken and beat" but he will always rise and stand on his own two feet. Until he is no more, and then his music will rise for him. Hearing you talk about your own wife's struggle explains to me why you picked up on that message, IMHO. You've seen the pendulum swinging, and even in the good times, you suspect - or even know - that the bad is not gone. It is dormant - maybe for hours or weeks, maybe for years - but it is always there "in the periphery". If you play this song on repeat, then you will get the message. The song is eternal, because the dance is eternal. Or maybe I'm just being pretentious?

Great analysis. Heard one other mention Bo Burnam. If you like him, you’ll be part of a huge and growing community. Ren is an independent artist and is trying to recover in Canada. Some of his music is rap, other not. New subscriber.

I would suggest one rethink of your final thoughts if I may be so bold, but I mean no rudeness whatsoever... I don't think he's acting even one iota, but rather, he's letting us in completely and without condition. That inner dialog is represented so perfectly, IMHO, that I can't imagine it being anything other than 100% genuine. Just my two cents. Definitely enjoyed your reaction. Cheers!

The "melting pot" phenomenon you speak of has been going on for some time, though it does seem to be accelerating. A scary but exciting time to be on this planet! Been here since 1951 and it keeps on getting scarier but more exciting. Best of luck with your channel; you have a good vibe. Be Cool.

24:15 I believe he is referring to it not being a game to win or lose in psychological warfare, more so there are victims who succumb and students who learn from their psychosis.

I've watched countless numbers of the reactions to this video. Also read many comments from ladies , and gentlemen further along in their years, as am I, and many say after numerous times through this video, it still brings tears. I'm another one of those. Great job on this one 👏 👍.

One of the best analyses of this work I’ve seen yet, and I’ve seen a lot. Good luck.

One year ago you had 1000 subs. Today you're over 5000. Good work.

I found Ren in March of 2023. I have watched reactions since. This is the first time your reaction to Hi popped up. I thought you were new, then I noticed this is a year old. What is wrong with KZbins algorithm? I guess I will be digging into your Ren playlist. Great Reaction!!! Of course I subbed. ❤❤❤❤😊

You're only the 2nd person that's mentioned that gorgeous room reverb when he stops singing. Congrats!!

It's not acting but is. It is all of his mind, but projection makes him a prominent being. His pain and his struggles forge a beauty we rarely see. Great review babes.
