There are 2 things I love most about Ren. 1) Always expect the unexpected, you never know what you're gonna get. Not only does he do multiple genres, he's a genre bender! 2) How genuine he is. He's the same in his music, interviews, and live streams (he goes live usually after dropping original art, not his retakes). I always recommend new Ren viewers to check out his YT 1 million subscriber speech, helps you understand his overall message. Enjoy your journey, he's worth every moment!

If you’re gonna dive into REN ya need to understand his story. A best friend who ended his own life as a teenager (The song For Joe covers that story). Wrongly diagnosed with various mental illnesses and put on heavy meds for it that ended up really messing up his brain. Then finally being diagnosed with Lyme and has spent the last year in Canada having treatment for the Lyme and to try and get his brain functioning properly again. (Songs like Hi Ren, Chalk Outlines, etc speak on that stuff). He really is a warrior and his story is inspirational to say the least

Every Ren song is different to some extent. You do not get the same person each time. Renegades value that considerably. Ren's rap is not the same as contemporary rap; he allows those of us who historically hate rap to appreciate it to an extent we look at rap differently. But I think his fans enjoy his music simply because he is the most genuine individual we can find in the music scene today! Genuine as in a truly good hearted and amazing person. Ren does not sugar coat anything, especially his idealism. It is refreshing in a world of horrid commoditized music we hear today. You have experienced two very different Ren's so far. You have 79 more to go.

Ha! Beck! One of my favorite artists from the 90’s and someone I’ve compared Ren to in their versatility. although Beck wasn’t much of a rapper, he was most definitely schooled in all forms of music. Ren is very much a fan and student of many genres of music. For more on that, I would check out Ren’s now defunct band, The Big Push. Would highly recommend, I shot the sheriff/road to zion/hip hop” as a starting point down that rabbit hole. It’s not my favorite by them, but probably the one that shows just how great they were live and being able to seamlessly mashup songs. link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4TIdKiIapalm80

I appreciate that you’re continuing down the Ren rabbit hole to figure out why he has such a dedicated fan base. I predict you will soon become a RENegade yourself this way 😂 A suggestion on how to get to know him: Hi Ren -> Sick Boi -> Crutch feat. Bibi -> Chalk Outlines (live version) with Chinchilla -> Seven Sins. And then maybe his 1m subscribers video on defining success. I think this will give you a good picture of Ren as a relatable voice for people with physical and/or mental health issues. It is one of the main reasons he has gathered such a strong and supportive following #NotACult 😉 😂 Another reason is the variety and unpredictability in his catalogue. The above suggestions will also start giving you an idea about his range, but for a deeper understanding, check out the trilogy of tales (there’s a 13 minutes video containing all 3 songs in order and they’re best experienced like that in one go), The Hunger, Illest of Our Time, Humble feat. Eden Nash, Penitence feat. Molly McKinna, and then definitely also check out the band The Big Push. Maybe even go all the way back to Trick the Fox where Ren was around 20. The Ren rabbit hole is wide and deep, but I promise you that the journey is well worth the time. And the RENegades will be here to support you on the way ❤🐰🕳️

His earlier albums and EPs are also very different as id the work he did with his (live) rock band The Big Push.

Hi Ren is a must, because there's nothing else like it (in spite of obvious influences). The Money Game series is fantastic social commentary. Chalk Outlines (live version, with Chinchilla) for beautiful vocals. The Hunger for straight up rap. Suicide, if you need a good cry. Murderer, because he kills it. (Those last two had me, a nurse, walking around at work singing lyrics about death and murder--super inappropriate! 😂) Animal Flow, if you like dystopian literature. Back On 74/Message In A Bottle retake if you're in the mood to sit in a dim lounge at 3am as an after party winds down. ... That's just a start. There's a Ren for every mood.

I think I be doing Hi Ren next. But I did just do his recent message in a bottle retake, that I’ll probably have up tomorrow. I love a good cry/emotional music but for as long as I’ve been playing and through out my I’d be surrounded by music I think I could count on one hand how many times a song has made me cry. If anything.. music videos get more to me than the song along on an emotional level. Thanks for all the suggestions!
