He said in his twitch stream that this was written two years ago after he'd had a very bad day after a setback. He wrote the song in order express his feelings and get them out so he could move on. Very healthy way to deal with emotions.

I agree 100%. For me, listening to music has always been cathartic. I would imagine that as a musician, it probably hits Ren the same way. It's a way to get angry feelings out, without pulling out the weapons. It takes facing facing our feelings to work past them. To me, singing along at the top of my lungs is a healthy way to let it out.

Great reaction Fisch... challenge accepted! Being naturally lazy, I ran it through an online word counter. The word 'kill' appears 44 times and makes up 7.1% of the lyrics. For comparison, second place was the word 'your' 15 times. As a side note, I'm starting to develop a Ren playlist that I can hum to while grocery shopping that will be sure to have the undercover store cops following me.

I guess A.I. won't take over too soon, I counted 52 "kill's" and I'm sure I missed one here or there, the second most used word was "the" followed by "your" but absolutely agree with the ren play list in your head, between murderer and masochist we would certainly get some strange looks and possibly arrested for breach of the peace :) 😀

I counted exactly 51 its only 52 if you count the word killing. I counted many times from ren's comment on lyrics which has 47 in it count the 4 at the start of the song that ren didn't put so 51 times in total..if your counting from the lyric video, it's even more cause some of the single use by ren has the line show up like 5 times in the video

But what I think OP means is that there are several times in which the female voice says it alone so the word is used 48 times total... according to the OP anyway (I'm not counting it - 🤣).

Ren alludes to this track being metaphorical in nature and I think he's doing the same as Lin Chi, but in a tongue-in-cheek and playful manner.

As he said on his Twitch stream after the drop... "self destructive". I've noticed people leaving that part out when they comment about what he said. His community post says it all. If I were Ren and were dealt those cards, I too would be cursing everything. People have waves of emotion... they pass and later go back to homeostasis. This was obviously written before that emotion passed. In "Hi Ren" he says "there were victims and there were students" When you suffer you cycle between these 2 things. At the time he would have been feeling like a victim (and rightfully so!). Killer song as always 🔥🔥🔥🔥💕

I think "supersonic" may be a call out to JJ Fad as well. Considering that whole section is homage to rap and hip-hop culture, that one line, "watch me run around with the supersonic ultrasound" I think is a call out to JJ Fad - maybe not and I would be curious if anyone knows who it really is a call out to or one that fits better.

On Twitch, Ren said when he wrote Masochist he'd just come out of a "f'kn sh!t situation with the last people I was working with in the music business, so I was angry at everything and I thought I'd write that song (Masochist) and it made me feel better. Obviously it's not literal, I thought that maybe some people who were more religiously inclined might get upset about it but it's all sort of metaphors and it's all like my own journey and my own wrestling with spirituality when your body's been hurting for so many years, so that's where it comes from. It's not like being offensive to be offensive, it comes from a place of doubting your purpose if your in pain all the time. So that verse comes from there, cause I know some people will probably take it literally, as a face value: 'kill your mother, kill your father'; all that sort of stuff - it's just kind of cursing existing basically cursing the sheer act of beling alive, so in case anyone was wondering, that's why."

If you can see this the cynicism in the song... Ren taking the role of the character in a lot of the hit songs. In this song I think he represents the man who takes the Earth as flattened or other misguided thoughts that makes him want to kill! in the same time he talks about killing all the characters that created his thoughts, kill the maker the Creator mother and father that represents society that makes him think those thoughts that are misguided and after you kill them you can think on your own. And only after you kill all your assumptions you can start to learn who you really are. I think in this song, the killing part, is referencing to the self 🤷🤷🤷

I didn’t enjoy this song even though I am a Ren fan. I understand and appreciate the criticism and critique of western civilization and society. This just seems dark to me which may seem to be the point especially from the breadcrumbs of the trail from previous song releases which provides context. There seems to be no playfulness which also maybe the point. Ok, after watching several reactions I can see Ren is being playful with the beats, flow, cultural references, and of course word play. But REN’s choice of words in his lyrics shows how dark Ren’s eternal dance and mental state has been. As expected Knox’s, Cliff bests, yours, and other reactors and their analysis 🧐 on Ren’s lyrics and flow has been enlightening. This song is not something I would choose listen to on repeat often. Darkness concentrated.
