Giancarlo Giannini was awesome as Rene Matthis. The scene when Bond is holding Matthis in his arms as he is dying always makes me cry.

Yeah but the flaw I didn't like is when Matthias dies bond throws him in the dump like his trash and used him as bait 🤨 if they was going to kill Matthias I would suggest green or the general men put stolen guns in bond boot not Matthias in the boot, he does get shoot by trying to save bond and camelle ,and they tried to get him to the hospital, but the wounded is strong and his going to die ,so keep the scene when he dies in his arms and then bond live him outside the hospital then he gets his his gum and shoots it in the air for the medica team to take him in as bond and camelle drives on.

This is what I love about Quantum of Solace, keeping towards the originality and breathtaking atmosphere of Casino Royale. Just this scene with Bond and Mathis together brings it right back.

I loved Quantum. It was almost as good as Casino Royale. A lot of people rated it low in the Bond series, but it is aging well and will get its rightful place as one of the great ones!

I was thinking the same. That Felix character that appears in Casino and in this QOS is poor. Mathis was far more charismatic and the writers could have used him in the following Bonds. Certainly would have made Skyfall and Spectre more watchable.

Not weird at all. Its symbolism. Signifies the end of the conversation between Mathis and Bond and that the trip to the villa was a success i.e. you're familiar with the term ''lets drink to it '' and finishing the drink like that illustrates the decision has been made. Mathis will accompany 007 to Bolivia :)

Skyfall is the best of Craig's era, and the only good one. The other three are pretty terrible. QOS and SP benefit from a better cast all round and better cinematography than CR. QOS has the best music of Craig's era (except the theme song. Skyfall and You Know My Name are better). CR has a laughable script, over acting from Eva Green, terrible characterisations, bland score, and a ghastly colour palette.

The subs are accurate in spirit more than execution. Mathis says "wine" rather than "fine wine" and Gemma replies "it's a whatever wine" with a shrug.

That "She died for you." From Mathis.. And the quick neck snap from Bond are perfect... You can see how Bond has so much contempt for Vesper even after she is gone.. he still blames her.. for so long.. since it happened ...its like he constantly tells himself.. she never loved me...she was a liar.. a betrayer.. its good she's dead.. I'm better off.. but he is only telling himself this because its the easy way out..... The inconvenient truth isnt as black and white as bond wants it to be... the truth is She did love him.. she didnt expect to fall in love with him but she did... she was in an impossible situation... and she made a choice. Give up the money to Mr. White..in exchange for bond's life... She loved bond so much that she would do anything to protect him. Even if it meant being a traitor and a liar in his eyes... This is why Mathis' line hits so hard.... Mathis was real.. and he gave it to him straight. You can tell yourself she betrayed you.. because victimhood is easier that accepting the more difficult truth.. that she loved you enough to die for you. Its easier to accept the loss of a liar, a betrayer, a deceiver.. But its hard to accept the loss of someone who was willing to lay down their life for yours.

They took him away because Le Chiffre lied and said Mathis was the traitor instead of Vesper.

Bond believed that Mathis was Le Chiffre's inside man. He first thought that after Vesper was paged to leave and then kidnapped. Then after the Aston Martin car crash, Le Chiffre told the semi-conscious Bond "Apparently your friend Mathis, is really my friend Mathis". While Bomd was recovering he told M that Mathis was a traitor. Mathis was then tazed and arrested. At the end of Casino Royale, Vesper was revealed to be the traitor. Bond advised them to double check on Mathis just in case both were traitors. Quantum of Solace reveals that Mathis was cleared and as an apology he was given the money for the villa. He was likely retired or semi retired when Bond approached him. When Dominic Greene's men end up killing him in the shoot out, he has a dying heart to heart with Bond. Bond ultimately puts him the dumpster. The exact reasons for that are unclear. Bond states to Camile that Mathis would not have cared. As evidenced by when Bond later confronts the man who betrayed Mathis, Bond did care for Mathis.
