"Not by age but by disposition, is wisdom acquired” Ren always makes me feel this quote!

The live gives it a way darker view that must be seen prior to moving on with the trilogy. Love seeing my generation appreciate Ren. He is defiantly multi generational ❤

I've listened to everything Ren has made over the last 17 months or So I thought never seen this version. The live version is tense and slightly terrifying amazing art This one is great on lyrics and singing and made a change tho Appreciated your thoughtful reaction

I needed this discussion. During the Last pandemic I saw the world working for the common good of mankind. At least during those times of darkness there was a glimmer of hope that people can unite and solve problems on a grand scale

The video for this is well worth watching, (essential imo). It elevates it to a completely different level and the impact is very much watered down in this lyric version. It is one of his most thought provoking and interesting. Unusually for Ren, MG part 2 the lyric video is the one to go for although the live version is still worth watching, it just isn't the complete song. I hope that makes sense!
@PomadeJam8 ай бұрын
That makes sense totally. There’s just so much that can be discussed just with the lyrics and music and listening like you would to the album.

The phrases "You can never be rich enough, or thin enough" and "He who dies with the most toys, wins", seem to me to be the most obvious signs of a broken society. When superficial image, and the outer trappings of wealth become more important than community and civil society...we are in a very dark place.

Hm...where did this version come from? For Money Game 2 you should probably watch the official lyric video. There is an acoustic version too but it is not the full song; it is amazing though. Great reaction as usual.

another great discussion! i didnt know there was a lyric video for part 1 actually, you should definitely watch the live one as well purely because it is a one-take video, but for context this lyric video portrays the story perfectly well to get the discussion going!

Thank you! The lyrics and the song are so powerful, I thought it would be interesting to just focus on those and see what discussion ensued. His videos are amazing, but the songs stand on their own too. I really appreciate your comment.

OK. So MG1 (live) & its video are one of my favourite pieces of art on the planet, but I *love* the format you're going with on this channel. I'm sure you may receive some flak for choosing to do this lyric version vs the video, and I *kind* of agree because my god is that video important... but on the other hand, the video is so captivating and uncomfortable that it's hard on first watch to take in even the "easy to catch" lyrics. The visual story unfolding in front of your eyes DEMANDS your attention and sets your brain buzzing with new questions every second. And even some of the SERIOUS bar-breaker-downers have trouble deciphering some of the lyrics if they haven't pulled them up to refer to. But the lyrics are so important. So maybe this was a good choice, to ensure the guys focused on Ren's penmanship and message... and to keep your video FOCUSED on the message, because otherwise you wouldn't have had as in-depth a discussion about the lyrics since the discussion would partly have been pulled into discussing the meaning of the video. Which of course when watching that version, does need to be discussed in conjunction with the lyrics, and... PLEASE DO, at some point! But I really appreciated the extent to which you were able to dive into a conversation inspired by the lyrics here. And I'd just like to mention... WHOA, I know I've only been a Ren fan for a bit more than a year now but I'm on Disability and spend *a lot* of time listening to Ren/hunting down Ren reactions on KZbin, and I've somehow NEVER heard this studio version of one of my favourites. It was actually disorienting! Super cool to find a Ren recording I wasn't familiar with... even if there's no way I prefer it to his delivery in the live video version with Big Push bandmate Romain Axisa on guitar. Keep going! These deep dives into Ren's work have been great, and also are unique Ren reaction content (or at least "not the usual"). (which I *also* love of course, but I'm very happy to find more people setting up conversations like this 👍) 21:50 - I'm an avid foodscape gardener; I upended my life to move out of the city to have room to grow fruit and nut trees and berry bushes and a huge minimal-dig "lazy gardener" garden and keep chickens, ... and that's entirely because when I began gardening, I got hooked by the feeling of well-being you get from the harvest. I'm a foodie at heart, but my Disability income leaves me living below the poverty line here in Canada, and when I harvest 200 heads of garlic you cannot buy in stores for ANY amount of money, I feel wealthy beyond measure. Garden-grown zucchinis are an entirely different vegetable than what you buy in the store imo - and my GOD do they produce abundance! Hell, I feel wealthy when immersed in the smell of *good* (not anaerobic/sour) compost, when I'm turning the pile. Lettuce season will begin here in a few weeks, and for at least 2 months if not more, I'll be feasting on HUGE salads built upon lettuce - some varieties of which simply CANNOT show up in stores because it can't be shipped or sit on shelves; it goes directly from the garden to my table. I basically don't bother buying grocery store lettuce that's affordable to me, because to borrow a turn of phrase from a gardening KZbinr I watch, it "tastes like disappointment." But I seek out and grow lettuces that do well in the chilly early season conditions, and others which hold up under at least some exposure to summer heat, so I always have a mix on offer. Don't even get me started on green beans. Connection to and immersion in the living systems necessary to sustain human life is the real wealth, imo.

Thanks for all your comments. Yeah, I basically wanted to just focus on the lyrics for this reaction. Responding to the video is a whole other ball of wax. And the lyrics are so important. I also wanted it to be more like the experience of listening to the album. Keep on growing stuff (tomatoes are my favorite thing to grow).

Pointing out the problems is easy, but solutions, not so much. In money game 3, Ren says we could have a utopia. Wrong. As long as there are individuals, there will never be a utopia.
