This was probably my favorite reaction to Dominoes. It's an incredibly underrated song that I resonate with on a deep personal level. It's always been one of my favorites and I enjoyed your insight so much. Can't wait to see you exposed to more Ren. As others have said, if you like lyricism, Ren is the guy.

Ren IS wordplay, rhythm schemes, percussion with the words, personalized honesty/truth, amazing musicality and pure storytelling. ❤❤❤ Even in the ‘just for fun’ songs there are layers of wordplay and I catch something new every time I listen to them.

Thank you for your thoughtful, in-depth reaction. I first clicked to watch this a day ago.,since it is another wonderful song of Ren's. Then saw how long your video reaction was, but heard enough to know that I wanted to hear what this intelligent man had to say ...so, I saved to watch later. Thoroughly enjoyed your breakdown of the words, music and how they were performed.

He doesn't just 'go by Ren'. Ren is his name. Ren Gill, or Ren Erin Gill, to give his full name. :)

(regarding Ren's use of the word 'fuck') - "I'll probably use this song in classes now... " I'll take any and all reasons someone would bring Ren's art into a classroom. Sean might be interested in Ren's song "Crutch," certainly with its background context - Ren was seriously sick at that point, spent nearly every hour of every day unable to leave his bedroom, was unhealthily skinny, and felt very ugly and unlovable. idk, it might not carry the full weight of its link to your discussion here if it was the very next song Sean got to listen to though; maybe its full role in that discussion can only be felt if you know more of the story than just a one-line description of "this is how sick Ren was."

Very stimulating discussion as usual! I'd be very interested to see you analyze Little Blue (the live Mahogany Sessions recording) by Jacob Collier. It is at once both beautifully simple and strikingly complex in its lyrical content and musical nuances. The second half of the piece is a deeply impactful improvised acapella sequence that embodies better than anything (in my recent memory at least) collective human connection on a spiritual level. Every reactor I've seen experience this performance has been visibly moved, often to tears, and at a loss for words in the wake of its profound beauty. I can already imagine Sean's reaction as the chorus shifts from "Don't be afraid of the dark..." to "Don't be afraid of the light..."
