A little background on Ren that I gathered from the internet. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours a day. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before he was finally correctly diagnosed with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting brain damage. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments.

I am 52 now and remember in the early 80's how the record industry kinda came in, took over and really started steering artists in certain directions. I can't say how happy I am to see a time where good independent artists are able to make their art in the way that they had envisioned it in their heads. They are able to explore different avenues in their music, control how they present themselves and songs that are awesome but long no longer get butchered to suite the industry's tastes.

It was fun to see Ren having fun! And the way they shot the video---very cool. Yes, we need all these independent artists so we can hear some true art, feel something real, and enjoy every minute of it. Ren is amazing. I just found him a couple of weeks ago. I've already told you about the trilogy, but here are some others - Money Game & Money Game 2, The Hunger, What You Want (old beastie boys type beat, more upbeat track), then he can sing too - Chalk Outlines, Crutch, How to Be Me. These are just a few I have checked out and fell in love with so far. Hope it helps. And I always love your reactions, thanks for sharing them with us! #HOG

Another great reaction. Ren's musical catalogue is quite large and diverse. I am looking forward to your reaction to the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet." It is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full),” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Oh My Woman," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. Ren's personal reflections on his struggles are threaded through many of his other songs as well; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world.

The trilogy is a little rough, it will make you upset and angry at the situation but you'll love the music and how he composed it. It's set up more like "HI Ren" I suggest watching Jenny's tale first then Sceech's tale, and lastly Violet's tale. I think it's the best way to go. You can trust me cause I'm an NF fan lol🖤💚

This is about his misdiagnosis. For 10 years he was physically ill, often bedridden with pain. And doctor after doctor was telling him it was all in his head. In the beginning of this song her explanation, though plausible, and perhaps even common, was her misdiagnosing him, and in turn mistreating him. He only discovered later that he had lyme disease, and his ailments were actually physical and not psychological...after years of having every psychotropic pharmaceutical on earth shoved down his throat to the point of him having actual psychosis. I'm not sure there is a better interpretation of what is wrong with our modern medicine, than Ren's music.
