What did you do...? You were authentically yourself! I never watched, or even understood, reaction videos until I saw Hi Ren. I was shaken to my core and I just had to know if there were other people who felt the same. And there were! And I think we can agree that inauthentic reactions suck. He was misdiagnosed and for years was treated with medications that didn’t help for mental disorders he didn’t have while his condition worsened. He actually had Lyme disease that was wrecking him physically and mentally feeling like he would not live much longer.

I love to see people discover Ren… you stand out (not that others don’t)… we renegades love genuine reactors who have their own thoughts and perspectives and truly appreciate his “art”. It’s okay if you don’t like everything - it’d be weird if you did (although that’s not unheard of with Ren!) We like honest & meaningful reactions. I personally am not keen on 2 of his tracks 😬 so haven’t added them to my playlist, but that’s pretty impressive considering his vast array of music, along with his band The Big Push. I’m 47 and I’ve never come across such a talented artist in my lifetime… even saying “artist” doesn’t do him justice. He’s incredible - people like Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sinead O’Connor (just before she passed away) Justin Hawkins, The Verve, even Russell Crowe… they’ve all shared how exceptionally talented this young man is. As you dive deeper, you'll start to really notice just how rage against the machine he is. Even his less serious stuff still takes jabs at superficiality and greed, the inequalities of capitalism, and the damage we're doing to ourselves. I won't say to read his lyrics while you're reacting to a video because he packs in just as much visual information as he does words and you don't want to miss any of it. But after you watch a video, go back and read the lyrics. Then read them again. Sit on it for a while with an open mind and really let the message stew. Then go out into the world with a new perspective.

Ren is 34, turning 35 in March😊 He’s been through so much & it’s beautiful to see his work finally gain traction these last few yrs. I think he’s currently in Mexico (or about to go) to try some more stem cell treatment. His album sick boi went straight to Number 1 on the UK album chart, beating Rick Astley & other famous artists… and he did it all independently, no ads, no radio play, no gigs (as he was too sick). All word of mouth online. I cried tears of happiness for him, as it gave his struggles a deeper meaning & showed him that he doesn’t need a record label to be successful- he did it his way - it show just how much he’s loved by all of us 💛

Welcome to the Continuation of Hi Ren, Steven! Sick Boi was recorded BEFORE Hi Ren, but is considered the next track in the 'story' of Hi Ren. It is, according to Ren, about his personal journey with the medical industry, his feelings of pain and dealing with his treatments, a lack of empathy from the music and medical industries (which affect him the most), and his wanting to break the separation between emotion and community with all of those things as a perpetual darkness which hangs over all of us. This was filmed in the same location as Hi Ren but is most assuredly not a one take, live, performance. However, it was recorded only over a few days. The lovely lady playing the 'therapist' is an Irish friend of his that he's known for a while. I believe she is an actress and a musician as well? I am sure the RENegades can correct me. This, like Hi Ren, was filmed with practically no budget and was another Samuel Perry-Falvey video production. Prior to 2024, this would have been basically where I would have stopped with my breakdown, but in the months leading up to 2024 and into the first half of 2024, Ren encountered a massive problem with Sick Boi. He breaks down the situation of what happened with Sick Boi in this video and I highly recommend checking it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWiVkpWagr-VfaMsi=oHL0VJAk_mjT0iXy Because of the situation, Ren was forced to pull Sick Boi from all streaming platforms for several months. Only KZbin has the original at this moment while he and his legal team continue to work on fixing the problem. Sick Boi is extremely personal to Ren and so, you can imagine how that had a massive effect on his health. Shortly after releasing Kujo Beat Down and this explanation video, Ren encountered another relapse in his various illnesses and had to go back to Canada for more intensive treatments. He is now home because the treatments are no longer the only thing that can help him and the sheer cost and expenditure of resources and time is not enough for him to justify it. Thankfully, he is stable right now and has returned to producing music. All that being said, it is a beautiful masterpiece that should be shared, like Hi Ren, with everyone because not only does it showcase his versatility, but brings even more to light the disaster that is most of healthcare and pharmaceuticals in our world, but also the hypocrisy and commercialisation of music.
