I love the line in screeches tale "our story it ends right at the start, with screech and poor Jenny lying one street apart" referring to how they were born side by side in violets tale at the end and died the same way in screeches It sets up the final song without us even knowing it yet

Ren is an incredible story teller, and filmmaker. I am sure hundreds of people have pointed it out, but there weren't cuts in the videos, it was all a single take. One of the things that first bothered me was the cliche talk of violence with phrases like "it's such a shame" or "one to the collarbone, full force full blown. knick knack paddywhack" but eventually I realized, or someone pointed out that Ren is not only commenting on violence, but also the public's reception of it

Ren has said that he has put so many easter eggs in his videos that he doesn't even remember them all.
@Ace-pc2cm7 ай бұрын
It's not necessarily ego or even being high. There's a very real concept known as "su!cide by cop". When you feel you have no way out, you might decide that death is a more favorable outcome than jail. It's a very understandable logical position that is not often portrayed in the media. Ren understands all his instruments, including his voice and facial expressions, so well that he is able to manipulate them however he likes to involve them all in his storytelling.

I’ve also seen it suggested that Violet’s own father was the father of the twins, and that she was already pregnant when she got together with Stevie.

REN is a gripping story teller. I've watched dozens of reactions to this trilogy and your reaction is by far my favorite. You paid attention to the story, saw all the details, and felt what was coming better than anyone else I've seen.... One thing I have never seen anyone theorize is if Jenny was a hooker. The clues come to me through the facts that she walked those streets 1000 times before, and he says she has something to escape. She's not coming home from a good time at a night-club; but she has high-healed shoes. So she's also not coming home from a job like McD's or something. When she died Ren reminds us that she "escaped" something. Jenny is a 14 yr old street walker out late at night. Their mom was dead, and their dad would have gone to jail. So they went into foster care and were separated but lived near each other without ever knowing it. By 14 they were both street kids.

One thing that I dont think I've ever seen mentioned by anyone else...at the start of Screech's Tale, you see Ren sitting on a staircase with a single bright light shining down from above. He then descends to the bottom -- basically a symbolic descent into Hell. The Devil has captured Screech's soul.

He has said in an interview that he was inspired to write it after he seen a similar story of a young boy getting shoot down and the officers only words where it's such a shame

Both videos are absolutely great (subscribed watching the first one). Mind you, in Jenny's tale Ren mentions Screech is 14, which means Jenny is too. What is she doing on the streets in high heel shoes at night (as a thousand times before)? Also they are both a reflection of (respectively) their mother and father.

It's sad that the kids lives followed after their parents even though they never met. Jenny takes after her mom freezing up as a trauma response and Screech having anger issues and not knowing how to handle it just as his dad.

Great reaction! You really have to do more Ren, you'll love it and he has so many more styles of music to explore. The Tales talk about generational trauma, Jenny who's silent and freezes when terrified like her mum, Screech who is quick to rage and violence like his dad. It also leaves a lot to interpret by the viewer which like any thriller can send chills down your spine. Like, was Stevie the father of Jenny & Screech or was it Violet's father? Was this why Stevie thought she was a 'liar'? because she was pregnant and he knew it wasn't his? Is this how Violet was able to leave home and get a council flat at 16? Also when Jenny, who had walked the streets 1000s of times before, suddenly had an 'intuition' was it some sort of twin sense? Was part of the reason she froze because she saw a resemblance in Screech? If you're interested there is an instagram story that Ren produced as a bit of a prequel of Screech in the build up to that night. It gives some context to his state of mind that night and also suggests that Patrick and his girlfriend were seeing each other behind his back and that may have explained his reaction on the phone when they were both 'unavailable'. There's also a short post-shooting clip of Screech being rushed into hospital. Enjoy the Ren train....

Such an amazing reaction! I have a bit more tragic point of view on Screech. I think he was a truly abused and broken boy, only able to regulate his emotions by lashing out in extreme violence (killing Jenny, screaming at his girlfriend and going at the cop). I don't think he had many actual friends, so when he failed to reach out to Patrick and his (not great) attempt at reaching out to his girlfriend got rejected, he basically broke. I think the guilt combined with feelings of abandonment just took over and he basically died of suicide by cop. I like that there are so many ways to interpret stuff, it makes me just wanna listen to him and reflect over and over

I know the Renegades will point you in the right direction (they are amazing, if a little intense at times), but I would strongly recommend 'Chalk Outlines (live)' and then 'How to be me (live)' next, chiefly 'cos I just know you're going to LOVE Chinchilla, not least for how she gets Ren on his best game vocally, actually strike that, BEYOND his best game in every aspect! And she's f*cking amazing in her own right!!!! And I just can't wait to see you experience everything Ren's ever done... (I know, it sounds crazy, but I challenge you to prove me wrong!!) Things to ponder: If Jenny was 14 and walked the streets at night a thousand times before, that means she's been in the business since she was 11 years old. She was heading "home" while also looking for a place to sleep. Was Richard the cop her last customer? Screech's best friend didn't answer the door, and at the same time his girlfriend was "busy". Is putting 2 and 2 together the reason Screech snapped and decided on "suicide by cop"? Violet moved out at 16 after her father's abuse, and then met Stevie while working at Tesco, so it's likely her father is Jenny and Screech's father too, and Stevie snapped when he figured out he wasn't the dad. Ren packed a couple of Shakespearean plays and a whole season of a soap opera into 13 minutes 😮

Screech had stevies genes, Jenny had violets genes. Both Violet and jeny always said nothing and that is also a message. I mean you watch and listen again and see how many times he mentions that trait for both of them. For Screech chargingg at the police is a males bravado that is built from Panic, the fight or flight syndrome. Loved both of your reactions so much, you have a good style. I agree that Chalk Outlines (Live version) is something very special also. All of Rens songs are wonderful and also each is unique.. but some are special like Chalk Outlines and How to be me.

Ren doesn't 'sing' songs, he lives them. And this tragedy goes so hard even Shakespeare wouldn't dare. We see both nurture and nature at play in a tale of inter-generational disaffection and violence. Jenny and James (Screech) grew up 'in the system' never having had a connection to their parents. Both are lost souls. Jenny is the same age as James - so, age 14. Yet she's out in the street (regularly) at night in high heels with 'rosy' on her cheeks... it's clear that, at 14, her life isn't exactly on a good track. She shares her mothers tendancy to freeze - a trait that is likely to make her a victim of others. And Violets own mother was unable to deal with sexual abuse of her own daughter... she, too, froze... stayed silent... turned to drink. So, in Jenny, we see THREE generations of dysfunction. A desperate cycle of victimhood... part nature, and part (lack of) nurture. James is also in a bad place. Like Jenny, he has no sense of place or belonging. He's angry at the world... part of this is likely to be the lack of connection as an orphan, but how he deals with feelings of fear, inadequacy or frustration he likely owes partly to his genetics. He appears to takes after his father in terms of his brain chemistry. Whereas Jenny is literally crippled by adrenaline and lacks a fight or flight responses, James is stuck perpetually in fight mode - he's angry at the world and unable to deal with negative emotions or feelings of vulnerability. He lashes out when he doesn't know what to do. He's also applies this same violence on himself, he's self-destructive. It's literally the only tool he has. In Screech, we clearly see his father Steve... and we can only assume that his father also inherited his own sad legacy. *The characters are, individually, doomed* The tragedy is that, on their own, none of these people actually had much of a choice. They all needed love, support, therapy, tools... they needed someone to intervene and show them care. If there are monsters here, they are Frankenstinian... they are created! _(Violets father aside, as we have no context for him)_ So, both Jenny and Screech were pre-destined to become broken people, let down by a system that never identified their needs and helped them develop the tools they desperately needed to manage their fear and pain. They never got this support. *It could have turned out differently....* The siblings being separated at birth is such a shame, as it's quite possible that if both had some connection to the world (even through a sibling) things may have turned out very differently. James would likely have found purpose and have fallen into the role of protecting his sister, and she'd have felt less frightened and alone. But this wasn't to be. So, we're left with this grand inter-generational tragedy. And, though it's consequences are exaggerated here, it's still remarkably near the knuckle. It's a story who's fragments are playing out, every day, in every major city, on every continent. *My thoughts...* We, as a society, gape in shock when some tragic event makes the headlines. We blame the parents, we blame the kids... and we write them off as 'just bad people' to help us rationalise it. There's good people... there's bad people... and we paint ourselves blameless. For me, this story serves as a biting indictment of society. In truth, there are ONLY victims here. Jenny, Screech are simply products of their past. The same is true for Violet, and almost certainly for Steve... so, we could unwind this story further and discover further tragedy. But then we'd have to show compassion... we'd have to face the truth. And, having seen it, our comforting notions of good/bad right/wrong would fracture. We'd have to face such tragedies with nuance and perspective... ... and we can't do that - because blame is just so cathartic. We should show love, empathy and compassion. To family... to neighbours... to strangers. And, most of all, to those that appear not to deserve it. The support of others, when you're not even certain you deserve it, can change lives. Let's change lives.
