When Violet's husband says "Do you think I want to do this, Violet" --that is a standard thing coming from an abuser--blame it on the abused.

Thank you. I never hear anyone respond to this particular important statement. It is a critical indicator of a serious problem.

Oh, and Ren’s videographer partner Samuel deserves credit too. Ren does write the treatments and co-directs but Sam is the man, the myth, the legend behind the lens

You did go off last time, but it was a genuine outpouring of feeling and that’s what we come here for. As you say, there’s sadly very few artists around these days that can inspire this level of discourse. You keep being you, that’s why we visit. Much love from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

His ability to story tell is masterful. This is a heart wrenching commentary about generational abuse and poverty. Jenny was silent like Violet. Screech was the opposite. Both kids obviously slipped through the cracks of the welfare system.

This trilogy just breaks me every time. 😢🤬 I've been a clinical psychologist for the last 20+ years. This stuff is called "intergenerational trauma". You... No, it's not you. almost NO-ONE have the first idea of how much this stuff is common, and how many shapes and forms it can take, and maybe not of how much damage it does to everybody involved... Yet there are SO MANY PEOPLE who think it's just "normal", it is rooted in a mentality that seems to be more difficult to eradicate than any virus. 🤬 And the tragic thing is that, as in this story, when you happen to be the victim of something like that you get unconsciously convinced that it IS "ok"... Many times, that it is the ONLY way, to the only one that YOU can have. And it is so fu**ing hard. I personally know people that are into the third, or even fourth, generation of this kind of trauma. As Ren says... It's such a shame. 😢😤😭 It makes me both incredibly angry and unbelievably sad. Ren shows so clearly the abusive behaviour, to the point that the verbal patterns are pretty much EXACTLY STRUCTURED as the real ones. Jenny was silent, as her mother, and as her grandmother. Violet chose a partner that was the Xerox copy of her father, and as abusive as him. And Screech was just like him. I've NEVER heard of any such story that ended in a way that I could call "well". Not ONE. NEVER. Ren's storytelling is supremely good. It won't change the behaviour of the abusers, and likely neither of the abused... But it may be a park of awareness in the others. It would help. Thank you for your reaction. I share it at all levels. And thank you #Ren for these powerful songs. See you next time.

We all need to take a shit sometime. The most beautiful about this is, that it can be created and we get to witness it. Somewhere, deep down, there's a little bit of hope it seems. It's not only about the story. It's the way it grabs you in a chokehold also. when you feel that, I don't care about your background. You can stay when I have the chance to reorganize the people on this planet.

28:48 During my Law Degree I had to write a 4000 word essay on "Right to Life in Utero and Right to Self Determination once born". These arguments are incredibly nuanced and I'm not sure there's ever such a simple answer as "it's either right or wrong". With every nuance to every possible situation there are multiple perspectives which all may believe they see what is... The truth is we each see a facet, but it is not our place to judge the whole we cannot possibly know. But for a different situation or time, a different result WOULD result... We see a snapshot of a snapshot of a snapshot.

I can't speak for Jenny, either, but a couple things to consider. If there is any genetic trait that might cause it, she could have easily gotten it from her mother. Also, since the story highly suggests that they were split up and did not know each other, she likely grew up in the system, and one ha to wonder what possible job has a 14 year old girl walking home late at night in high heeled shoes.... Doesn't seem Screech had it better either. Ren plays both the nature and nurture card on these twins, as if destined for tragedy. Came into the world the same. And left in the same way. Such a shaa-a-a-a-ame.

20:40 that's the whole point of this Trilogy... He's taken a story (14 year old prostitute in London, murdered by a 14 year old street youth who was shot dead by armed police) and turned it into a trilogy. A story that would have shocked on the news for the 48 hour cycle for viewer & reader traffic for the masses to say how awful & move on... And he's turned it into a cyclic violence Shakespearean tragedy... But it goes deeper, there's a "Screech Instagram Stories" shorts video... The pause at the start of Violet's Tale... Ren is a bard, he is telling a tragic tale for entertainment & he wants the viewer to enjoy the music but then be horrified at the reality when he changes tone after Stevie's onslaught... From that point he drags the viewer through that trauma & points at the fucked up part of society that is ignored except for the 48 hour "that's awful" news cycle that most move past whilst others live trying to survive & escape.

In case you weren't aware Jenny is 14 years old and walks the streets all the time (1000) in high heels.....in England that means she was a prostitute....That is also crucial to the whole story-line, but i've noticed not a lot of people in the US get that about Jenny, where as all Brits do........maybe a slant you have missed

I did - I just don't wat to get into that side or I'll rant. I have issues with "sex" as legitimate work, but it is a fact that some people want to "protect" the idea. I let that one go; I've ruined so many reactions by not holding my tongue.

Im not sure that this song is illuminating or sugar coating domestic violence in any way. If anything it's an artist's way of bringing this madness into the forefront. But I do have to say that being an abused child, and abused in every since of the word that I feel your reaction. I wanna jump thru the screen and pummel stevie
