Ren took creative licence with the news story in 2005, so it is firmly "inspired by" rather than a "retelling of". That is his gift shining as a story writer.

Lol... well done! Jenny and Screech is based on a true story. Violets tale was created by Ren about 2 years later. Bigger things... both 14, Jenny had walked the streets in high heels a 1000 times (prostitution), was silent like her Mother. Screech was a mirror of his father. The whole tale speaks of the repetition of life.... amazing

I agree that Screech was like his father, but you do have to wonder exactly who his father is... I know that Stevie is an unhinged "prick" regardless, but his continued use of "slut" and "liar" makes me wonder if he thought she was cheating... maybe she was already pregnant when she met him without realising it. She had just left home when she met Stevie, where she was relentlessly abused by her own dad. I always wonder if the reason Stevie calls her a liar is because her pre-natal scans show that she conceived before they got together. It's sickening, but entirely possible that the twins' dad is also their grandfather!

Ren’s storytelling is so good tho. If you think about it, Screech was like his father and Jenny was like her mother. Notice how Jenny was quiet and timid like Violet. Screech was addicted and violent. The cycle continues… then ends.

Ren saw a headline of a 14-year-old boy charged with murder (I think of a prostitute), and he wondered how that could have happened. He was also bothered by the police response, "it's such a shame." To the UK, it's like saying "thoughts and prayers" in the U.S. It’s said in response to horrific crimes, but it's been said so many times, it doesn't mean anything. He ends Jenny and Screech's tales with that line/sentiment to be aware of society's apathy.

Ren seriously is the best story teller out there. This started off being based off a story Ren read in the newspaper about a young man that slashed and killed a young prostitute. The reporter ended the report with “it’s such a shame” hence Ren using that line a lot. Jenny’s tale came out in feb 2019, screech’s in sept 2019 and violets tale in July 2022. Patrick was with Screech’s girlfriend hence she was “busy”. Notice how Jenny was a quiet girl like her Mom Violet and Screech was violent like his dad stevie. Generational abuse. Such a well written and presented story but definitely very hard to watch especially when you have been through abuse yourself. Sending you lots of love 🖤🫶

I think her father would be the father in this scenario, and Stevie just the perpetuation of her trauma hence the “lie” but just my own conjecture ❤❤

Jenny’s Tale is about a girl named Jenny walking down a street in London that she’s been down so many times before. She has a chance encounter with a 14-yr-old boy named James (his nickname is Screech) who is a street kid, a thief and stuff. He robs Jenny and ends up killing her with a knife, which ends Jenny’s Tale. Screech’s Tale begins moments after James (Screech) killed Jenny. He knocks on his friend Patrick’s door, looking for a place to hide, and no one answers. He calls his girlfriend to see if he can come to her place, and she says she’s busy. He has nowhere to go and a police officer finds him, he tries to fight the officer and gets shot 4 times, which ends Screech’s tale. Violet’s Tale is a prequel of sorts. A quiet girl named Violet grew up in a terrible home, her mother was a drinker and her father “tucked her tight, but never left the room” (abused her). She moved out at 16, and met a guy named Stevie who also abused her. He comes home one night after drinking and smoking and beats her within an inch of her life (she’s the one fighting for her life). Then there’s “the doctor, in a state of shock, saw something here so very wrong. See, Violet, she was pregnant, Violet, she was nine months gone”. Violet breaks her silence to ask the doctor to save her babies if she dies. Her babies are twins, a girl named Jenny, and a boy named Screech. This isn’t explicitly stated in the songs: Their father murdered their mother, it’s a safe bet to assume they’d end up in the system. They were separated after birth. Credit: Reddit(BestBudzz)

Wales is part of the UK. Where did you think it was? lol. The officer shooting Screech/James was merely artistic and dramatic licence. Police typically don't carry guns, unless they're in a specialist firearms team. Some plain clothes officers aldo have licences but even thy would only emply them for very specific operations. A patrolling officer just wouldn't have had a gun. A good thing too! One statistic that's stayed with me, is the fact that, on average, US police kill more people in a single month, than British police have killed in more than 2 decades!

@westbank5436 it's what you have to rethink as soon as you realise they were twins up until that point Jenny is ageless and could be a full grown woman because of the reference to wearing high heels. That's why to me it's the final twist.

I've been listening to this song for about a year so I felt like I always knew they were 14. So I get your point, like I said I wasn't trying to be mean but the final twist blew my mind and I didn't get it my first listen. I was on my phone with no earbuds in so it went right by me.

First time on your channel. I dig the reaction. I’m glad you watched all 3 parts. He’s really a generational talent. Idk how many of his songs you have done but I saw my man with the glasses lip synching Violets Tale so I’m gonna guess quite a few. Ren is like Prince and Lauryn Hill had a Caucasian kid in Whales. It’s not really a true story small part. Two kids grew up in the system and one killed three other not knowing they’re related. I remember he read a small clip in the newspaper. I don’t remember if they were brother and sister or actually twins or cousins or what. But the rest of it is from his imagination just highlighting how history repeats itself and somebody has to break the cycle and it’s the victim that usually has to which is cruel and unfair. I’m pretty sure he said the last line was it’s such a shame.. And he didn’t think that did the victim Justice.

There was at least one untold story within each Tale (probably more): Jenny's Tale - Jenny was a 14-year-old prostitute Screech's Tale - Patrick was not home for the very same reason why Screech's girlfriend was "busy" Violet's Tale - Stevie is NOT the father
@cassandrawood
@cassandrawood 2 ай бұрын
Oh hey is the incest thing actually proven? I always wondered if the reason Stevie constantly calls Violet "slut" and "liar" is because she was already pregnant when they met (likely without knowing). It doesn't change the fact that Screech was like his dad, as people always say. Plus the generational violence theme is still valid, likely even more so! It's just that even more troubling, his dad was also his grandfather 😢
@gcarap
@gcarap 2 ай бұрын
@@cassandrawood Well the incest itself was stated in the song, and Violet had to already be pregnant when she left home in order to collect welfare at 16. Sounds more than just circumstantial.
@cassandrawood
@cassandrawood 2 ай бұрын
@gcarap agreed 100%. A welfare scheme for a 16 year old to live independently isn't something all 16 year olds would have access to. Only in special circumstances! Very likely it's something organised by social services for her protection.

There are always little Easter eggs with Ren. That trumpet sound is also a vocal warm-up technique. So he's a minstrel warming up his voice &/or just messing around. But then the minstrel also clears his throat before he begins his tale. The man seems to know & think of damn near everything!

@Codex7777
@Codex7777 3 ай бұрын
It wasn't really based on true events. Inspired by, may be more accurate. Ren read a short news article, no more than a handful of sentences. It said that a 14 year old boy had been arrested for the murder of a young woman in a knife attack. That's it. Apart from the time and place that's pretty much all it said. The rest is all from Ren's imagination. Even the scant few details that were in the article, Ren changed.

Um, do you realize how silly it is to say the 1st part is true but the twin part is not. Well, NSS...the 1st part...the attempted mugging and murder and they caught the killer happens in any given town, on any given day, in any given country. Of course you can say that part is true. In all reality, I'm sure the part of this tale about them being twins is probably true more often than we realize somewhere in the world. Unless you hear Ren say it's based off a story he read or saw on the news, you can safely bet he came up with the idea to present a bigger message. Be mindful of how you treat everyone, no matter where you are. You never know your connection. My husband's stepmom was murdered randomly...by her cousin. He tried to rob her in her hotel room. He didn't recognize her as she had been living in another state the previous 10 years and had just moved home after leaving my husband's dad. They found his blood at the scene and after testing found out the familial connection and that's how they caught him. He was all tweaked out and just looking to get money to get his next fix. He's in prison...I think for the rest of his life.
