Their mother died, and their father went to prison for murder, so they were separated and became wards of the state. Jenny inherited her mother’s tendency to stay still and silent when she was frightened, and that killed her, just like it killed her mother. Screech inherited his father’s anger and violence upon being ignored. They “aligned side by side” in birth and in death.

It's the simple truth.. A abused and killed mom ends it with her last breath to save her child. The twins got separated by birth and both ended up in the statistics of a child without a good support system ending dead on the streets. I was almost that mom! I got lucky and my daughter too. We both survived and escaped... But not without scars or trauma

As someone who grew up abused and around domestic violence and then experienced dv personally, even when pregnant.. this triggered my PTSD in a huge massive way but I had to power through and listen because regardless of Violet is a real woman or not, her story is so real for so many woman! Some of us become survivors but some, like Violet, die victims, if not by the man’s own hands then by the mental scars that will never leave us.. this song is so much more than music and I pray it helps at least one woman leave and at least one man to reconsider his behaviour 🙏🏻❤

He mentioned somewhere (I forget where) that he spent a few weeks just banging his fingers on the wood of the guitar & strengthening his muscles, to be able to pull these off acoustically. If you have the time, there's a live version of this done as a single concert. He adds a few lines in between the songs to tie it all together.

No, I didn't miss the camera work either!!!!! I'm absolutely devoted. HIS VOICE. I’ve watched the trilogy a few times now. It’s brilliant in so many ways. We all have seen how many influences are in Ren’s work. To me he’s revived the image and sound of the medieval wandering minstrel, the original musical story tellers. As for the story itself, the only way I can describe it is - “Shakespearean”. I’m not putting him on a pedestal with The Bard (I’d never so burden anyone) but the drama, human failings and most of all the ironic human tragedy, all the essential ingredients. I’m sure it’s intentional of course. Ren is a master. And this is one of his best pieces.

Ren has such talent at storytelling, writing and... at everything related to music, really. Totally different vibes musically, but Ren reminds me a lot of Joanna Newsom. Theyre both doing like 17th century bard shit, creating these insanely vivid ballads. Ren is def one of the best and most creative artists Ive come across.

The more you listen to REN’s lyrics, the more audio symbolism you suddenly get (or maybe it’s just me being slow). I only just twigged the symbolism in “ she finally broke her silence” but at the same time she’s in hospital, she’s 9 months gone, which is when a woman’s Water’s break just prior to giving birth. So she broke her silence rather than her waters breaking. It really is off the charts clever.
