In regards the props/weapons tip: ALWAYS check your individual faire policy FIRST (usually posted on their website or social media - when in doubt: ask). Every faire, depending on state/county, may have different policies. Some faires allow weapons as long as they’re peace tied at the entrance, however some don’t even allow realistic toys, even if they’re plastic or foam. So check first!

There's a very large amount of middle eastern people living in the area I live. A lot of whom donate and shop local thrift stores. The amount of gorgeous dresses, tunics, pants, and scarves I have seen over the years is insane. Most are 100% cotton making them good for hot weather during faire season. They vary from simple solid colors, nice patterns, up to gorgeous beaded and trimmed pieces. All of these pieces are found in the women's dresses and women's pants, worth checking pjs and workout gear as some people place these items there as well. I have a super shiny gold tunic I bought last year (for only $12) that I plan to debut in a fancy elf outfit this year. As someone who dresses in 90% men's/unisex clothes I still check the women's sections when I need something for faire or cosplay. :) Great video thanks for thinking about us masc presenting individuals. :) Quick tip for faire weapons. Buy wooden weapons then paint them to look realistic/semi realistic. You'll still need to get them checked at the weapons stand and hand stamped before you go in but here in MI they don't peace tie wood, foam, or plastic pieces.

This year, I sewed a hand embroidered tablecloth and runner my grandma passed down to me last year into a cloak with a hood. I simply matched up the short edge of the tablecloth to itself and sewed about 6" from the corners inward with a ladder stitch. I folded the runner in half (hamburger-style) and ladder stitched one side to itself to make a hood. I lined up the bottom of the hood along the top edge of the cloak and ladder stitched those together. No cutting, no measuring, just a hidden stitch I can easily undo. It matches my mustard yellow dress so well you'd think it was planned!

Yes to this!! I've searched so hard for something like this because I'm AFAB but just not into the frilly stuff, and lemme tell you there is such a vacuum out there for resources like this. I'm also an avid thrifter and I convinced one of my friends to thrift with me for his garb for our first ren faire earlier this summer and we found exactly what you described - a flowy effeminate looking white satin shirt - in the women's nightwear of all places! He found pants too, and a blanket for a shawl, and that's just from two shops in one day. For anyone else reading this, do know that as far as bringing weapons in, it does depend on where you are. I'm in the south and the two faires I've looked into/attended so far, weapons are allowed in from outside so long as they're peace-tied. Not sure how that is elsewhere in the US though, but I thought I'd mention it. Look into the specific rules for your faire before going, that will tell you for sure!

Adding to the weapons caveat, some places require guns to be painted bright orange around the muzzle so they are very obviously toys. I was very surprised when she said she could bring her very realistic looking gun in casually for pirate looks 😂 Always always always triple check between venue and local/state laws!

Glad to help! I had enough people ask that I felt like it would be good to have up here. I did a video ages ago on tiktok and it’s in my compilation, but I made it so long ago that I wanted there to be more of a comprehensive guide. Also be sure to check my Pinterest if you’re looking for inspo. I linked to it in the description so if anyone is trying to build their own inspo board they can snag the images from the board I set up - I also added a subsection with female/femanine presenting individuals wearing more masculine garb since the majority of the main board is men and male presenting individuals. Also I replied to the other comment but I made a pinned comment about the weapons policy because I forgot that it differs so greatly state to state and faire to faire.

This was interesting and looks easier than what women have to go through. My costume could follow the story line of a Medieval woman dressing to pass as a man so she can escape from the Barbarians and find her lover. Or some such, 😁
@aliedmundson96247 ай бұрын
Also, another great idea for dressing masculine is the power of a good hat or styling your hair a certain way. So if your hair is long enough to put back in a slick pony with a strand of leather. Or you can use a bandanna to go a little more pirate. That’s always super fun. Also, if you’re not comfortable with make up, maybe find a friend to help but the power of eyeliner or a fake scar or of a well-placed fake tattoo can also really dress up your look!✨

Heyo, my scrub recommendation! Wore some dyed scrub pants just earlier this month to a faire actually! Technically it was one I got for my brother to have a second pant option when picking his outfits, so it was an XXL (and I am a S/M in scrubs) and it was big on me. BUT! It was a drawstring waist so it easily cinched down to fit, and I just tucked the legs into some riding boots and let it poof out over top. Tied a sash around my waist to help disguise the extra bunching and BAM! Pirate look! (Wore a generic faire type shirt) Honestly I almost feel a masculine look is easier to start off with when building an outfit, because feminine looks always seem to need more layers and textures in order to look "finished". For a masculine look you just need the pants, a shirt, a belt, and you're good. Anything else is just adding flair and visual interest, but as a base you're done and ready. If I do that for a feminine look (skirt, shirt, belt), I feel it looks unfinished and that I'm missing something (like a corset, a second skirt with skirt hike, bobs and bits to dangle on one's belt, other accoutrements). When I'm feeling lazy about putting together a faire look, I def go for a masculine outfit because I can throw it together with minimal thought effort.

Personally I've had good luck with Armstreet's linen items and mixed luck with their shoes (it was fine when I ordered a standard size, but not fitting when I ordered a custom sized shoe). As they ship from Ukraine, it does require some pre-planning (as in shipping can take months). I wish there were more shops I could recommend, but I ended up getting really into sewing instead. So maybe consider learning to sew.

I make and wear linen tunics for larp, and have fallen in love with how good linen feels and how well it breathes. Cotton is also a good choice. You’ll roast alive in polyester, and for the life of me I don’t know why they make canvas tunics, they’re so thick and stiff. But those are just my preferences.

Ok so there are better cheeper options than just Amazon honestly I would go to medieval collectables. You don’t have to get hand made expensive items to get something that will last. It is okay if people have the ability to buy expensive items but not everyone can. Medieval collectibles has a large range of different priced items and all are made well enough. I don’t know why people don’t mention medieval collectibles
