@IntuitionDigression This is an extract of the caption, underneath the video! ;-) The line-up shown here, only knew a short existence from November till December 1970. It consisted of: Terry Crowe (lead vocals and backing vocals) Binky Cullom (lead vocals and backing vocals) NB: This track was originally sung lead by Jim McCarty! ;-) This is indeed the transitional line-up just after Keith's Relf Renaissance and just before Annie Haslam!... I'm glad you like the original line-up!...

I thought Keith sang this. Why isn't Jim singing lead on the Beat Club thing?

Thanks for adding this. Have the music on DVD ... but first time I've seen the line up. Some very haunting vocals there.

I absolutely love these videos. I feel like I'm looking through a window into a past that is forgotten. It seems weird to me that this lead singer (whom I really like) is taking credit for the music that other artists created, in the opening dialogue. I like all versions of the band but there's something special about these videos that the others don't have.

@phasedin Neil Korner is the bass player and you'll find Terry Slade on the drums! Binky and Terry Slade met durring this very occasion, got married, had three children and are still going strong these days!... ;-)

@thatmuse76 Less than 12 months actually! I suspect Terry Crowe was chosen because he sounded a bit like Keith in the first place!... ;-) I don't know much of it myself, but John Hawken surely has the answer as he was the one involved with recruiting the new line-up!

@JimMcCartyandCo Yes! I own all of them! Was at the Victoria Theatre Concert in c77 when Illusion supported Dory Previn. I seem to remember it was billed the other way round initially with DP supporting Illusion, somehow it was switched. DP was OK but I went to see Illusion of course. When I questioned "Is Jim McC here at all?" , I meant in this video of Golden Thread, not on this website in general!! :-). We all looked differnet in 1970 or whenever the video was taken:-)

@MidnightMoses69 Thanks and yes! I did get a copy of Bacharach Baroque which turned out to be a Baroque version of songs by Burt Bacharach lol. Seems obvious of course - but no internet and very difficult to obtain accurate information in 1972. I must be one of the few people to have all Renaissance /Illusion and Bacharach Baroque in their vinyl collection. Not sure if this is something to be proud or ashamed...... :-)

@JimMcCartyandCo But it was this line-up with Jane, not Binky. This footage is the only recording of Binky in the band. Remarkably, Terry Crowe sounds a lot like Keith on this track. I still find it amazing that Renaissance appeared on Beat Club just 12 months earlier with a completely different line-up.
@londonbangkok Yes, I'm here... every now and then! ;-) Cheers for your kind comment! Do you also own any of the Illusion material?
@JimMcCartyandCo14 жыл бұрын
@68generation Not exactly!... ;-) This line-up only lasted a couple of months and only appear on the song "Mr Pine" on Renaissance (Keith's Renaissance)'s second album!...

@phasedin Surely it is John Tout on piano in this clip. Is Jim McCarty here at all? In any case a brilliant few minutes of music. I own every Renaissance LP/CD (not counting some greatest hits stuff whuch would be pure duplication) and love the music of all the various line-ups. Often for different reasons!

@londonbangkok Thanks, you just brought back a distant memory. Do you remember the old Phonolog? It was a huge directory that listed almost every musical recording ever made. It had an erroneous listing of a nonexistent Renaissance album named "Bacharach Baroque". I tried for at least two years to special order it. I have all Illusion (I think) and all pre-1980 Renaissance albums. Illusion's "Face Of Yesterday" was playing in my cassette deck when my car was totaled almost 30 years ago.

This song was unreleased at the time this video aired - - the "Illusion" album came out a few months after this -- but only in West Germany (is that where this TV show was filmed?)
@kevinpatrickmacnutt7 жыл бұрын
I think this was a Belgian made TV show. In support of this tour, the German show Beat Club showed an unaired performance of King and Queens taped January 1970 with the original line up (only Islands was aired at the time of the original taping, Kings and Queens was aired eight months later).

who is the singer in the "transitional line-up" clips + the acid-dame anyone???
@madanmohan10244 жыл бұрын
This seems like a good place to ask. Why was Annie only a backing singer in this band until Miles Copeland took over management? Or was she? At least she says that is the case.
@trfesok4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure Annie sang lead on the songs Jane used to sing until the classic lineup came into being.
@mobyboy13 жыл бұрын
what is the tradiniotnal line-up ? i dont see the orginal soloist here
@kevinpatrickmacnutt7 жыл бұрын
Transitional line up, morphing from the Yardbirds based line up to the Nashville Teens based line up. So how this works is you start with the original line up, Keith Relf, Jane Relf, Jim McCarty, Louis Cennimo and John Hawken this line up records their debut and most of Illusion. Keith and Jim hate touring, they exit to become writers for the band and are replaced by Michael Dunford, Terry Crowe and Terry Slade. Louis Cennimo then leaves and is replaced by Neil Korner. Renaissance exists with Jane Relf, Dunford, Crowe, Slade, Korner and Hawken. This line up records Mr. Pine on Illusion. Jane Relf then leaves and is replaced by Binky Cullom, who John Hawken is dissatisfied with, so he leaves and is replaced by John Tout. This line up is represented here and tours. While on tour the Relfs, McCarty and Cennimo reform with Don Shin on keyboards to record "Past Orbits of Dust" to finish off Illusion. In 1971, Cullom is replaced by Annie Haslam. Dunford leaves to join Keith Relf and McCarty and now Betty Thatcher as writers. Crowe, Korner and Slade are replaced by, eventually after a few other transitional people came and went (including John Wetton), Terence Sullivan, Jon Camp and Rob Hendry. I think Hendry was the one who died in an automobile accident and then was replaced by Peter Finer and then after that Dunford returns as a musician and you have the classic line up. I think I got that right.
