I loved the blues feeling in the song first time I heard it a year of so ago. I'm a fan of Renaissance since I first heard them on the Colorado University campus at Boulder. They closed with Ashes are Burning. And they had a simple light show. A very good memory/concert.

The 2 disc recording of Jane Relf's music is fantastic! I hope everyone has a chance to listen to it. It includes her work with the first Renaissance line-up, Illusion, Stairway and singles she released. I have no idea of what happened to her, but her album is great and so was her voice.

This is available on the "Kings & Queens" DVD, which is well worth the price of admission. The two songs by the original lineup have excellent video and audio quality. The five with this lineup aren't quite as good in terms of the video, but still well worth having. If Mr. McCarty is still watching this thread, I'm a big fan of the original Renaissance, Illusion, Stairway and Renaissance Illusion. All brilliant.

This was a good line up shame that only all the man with Jane Relf and John Hawken of the original line up only recorded one song on record Mr Pine on Renaissance second record Illusion. I think it would be great in the original line up got back together as Illusion I do love all the line up Renaissance had but there just something of how the original played together and always love the harmonies of Jane Relf and Jim McCarty when they sing together.

A bit of a mis-mosh of video clips since Neil is shown playing a Fender Tele bass ( at one time known as a Precision very early on ) and then for most of the video is playing what appears to be a Guild Starfire bass. That said, its a great song, of course with no real Renaissance connect musically other than some members.

If I am not mistaken, they are revealing their Nashville Teens lineage here. I would be a kin to Ren Mk I performing "For Your Love" or "Shapes of Things" which would have been interesting if that actually happened.

Correct. This song was part of the Teens' repertoire.
@thatmuse7610 жыл бұрын
So you have a line up of Renaissance touring to support an album they, for the most part, did not play on performing material they recorded when they were still the Nashville Teens, a band that still existed at the time with a different line up. Does anyone grasp the absurdity of this.
@hellochicago210 жыл бұрын
Grasping the absurdity is a good way of putting it; I can certainly relate to that. In fact this whole alternative Renaissance universe thing is starting to freak me out. Having been into the standard Annie H. stuff for quite a long time, I now find myself heavily drawn towards the much spookier Jane Relf era and even to this bizarre transitional phase. I also just bought both of the Illusion albums and they are truly fantastic; Jane has become my all-time best female singer (and what a Fox she was, too..) But this transitional stuff is so weird to see and hear, or even get your head around... By the way, I never imagined the Nashville Teens had previously recorded a version of this song, but at least that much adds up now, thanks!
@thatmuse7610 жыл бұрын
Well, to add even more confusion, the later version of the Nashville Teens in 1971 recorded the Roy Wood song "Ella James" a year before Wood recorded it with the Move. Roy Wood was married to Annie Haslam in the mid 1970's. For years no one knew where Binky Cullom came from or ended up. Now with the magic of the internet it turns out she married drummer Terry Slade and currently runs a massage parlor somewhere in England.
@hellochicago210 жыл бұрын
thatmuse76 That's interesting; and after this it wouldn't surprise me to find out Renaissance did an early take of The Battle of Marston Moor 1644! I wonder was there ever another high profile band that changed so completely, got away with it, and then came back to haunt itself the way Renaissance did? Even the various versions of Hawkwind always had Dave Brock in them; each of the Strawbs line-ups always had Dave Cousins... I believe there was a kind of "ghost" version of Judas Priest where the original members were none of the classic band, but they'd never released an album in the first place and they didn't later regroup under a different name as far as I know. I find this fairly unique aspect of Renaissance quite fascinating: they should have their own Pete Frame Family Tree, but it would probably be off the scale!
@kevinpatrickmacnutt7 жыл бұрын
Well there is a lot of confusion in the whole Amon Duul, Amon Duul II and Amon Duul UK camp. There is also the German band the Rattles that had some pretty significant line up changes to the point that all that survived was the name. I would also throw Fleetwood Mac in there as well since, while they did keep the members in which the band was named, they changed out the "writing" members of the band which contributed to their sound changing quite drastically.
@charlesnolan76027 жыл бұрын
That's inaccurate. This transitional RENAISSANCE, with MICKY DUNFORD, was the band between the KEITH RELF, and the Annie Haslam version of the band. John Hawken, the original Renaissance keyboardist WAS from the Nashville Teens, but left them to join Renaissance, in 1969. Hawken has also played in 2 STRAWBS line-ups, in the '70's and early 2000's. John Wetton was also briefly in Renaissance for about a week, before moving on to KING CRIMSON, giving JON CAMP, the opportunity to join, in 1972 ....Changes, and more changes!

Nient'altro !!!!!!

Jim, do you tour under your name or something else? I want to add you to my Pollstar list in case you tour Florida. I’ve been following you and your bandmates since ‘64 & I give the Yardbirds credit (along w/ Dylan) for inspiring almost everything good that happened in rock since. Then, as if that wasn't enough of a legacy, you and Keith took it to the next level and launched fully formed prog rock (as did King Crimson the same year). Renaissance remains among the very best. Thanks!
